Chapter 484 - Snowpoint Gym's Challenger

"I clearly reminded you of the temperature in Snowpoint City, but you weren't careful. Now, you've caught a cold before we even reached our destination," the girl with the scarf beside the sniffling boy said with evident frustration.

"Bunta, you were too careless." The last tall boy chimed in.

"How is this my fault?!" Bunta quickly tried to clear himself of blame.

"In your current state, how are you supposed to challenge the Snowpoint Gym?" The girl with the scarf sighed helplessly.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine."

As the trio discussed their plans to challenge the Snowpoint Gym, a sudden voice interrupted them.

"Are you planning to challenge Snowpoint City's official Gym?"

Terrance had overheard their conversation as he walked over. After a brief hesitation, he approached them at a relaxed pace.

"Challenging the Snowpoint Gym, huh? Interesting." Terrance chuckled inwardly. The current Gym Leader of Snowpoint Gym should be Candice, right? Teacher Issac's daughter... The first opponent he faced upon arriving in Snowpoint City...

Back then, his Swablu had battled her Snover in a beginner's match at Trainer's School. Thinking back now, he truly had been young and inexperienced.

"You are...?" Terrance's sudden appearance caught the trio off guard, and they asked in surprise.

Looking at the amusing trio, Terrance suddenly thought of a certain group. Then he inwardly shook his head. They were similar, but not quite the same.

"Me? I'm also planning to challenge the Snowpoint Gym," Terrance said.

"Really? You're a Trainer too? In that case, let's go together!" Bunta said casually, only to sneeze again right after.

"Eh, sure," Terrance replied.

The two beside Bunta were speechless at his habit of casually inviting strangers, but after sizing up Terrance... Hmm... A refined-looking boy with a righteous demeanor—he didn't seem like a bad person.

And so, the four of them proceeded together toward Snowpoint Gym, introducing themselves along the way.

"Terrance, are you also planning to participate in this year's Lily of the Valley Conference?"

"I've already collected seven Badges. What about you?"

At this moment, Bunta seemed to regard Terrance as a rival, which startled Terrance into waving his hands repeatedly. "No, no, it's not like that. I just happen to know the Gym Leader of Snowpoint Gym... but we haven't seen each other in a long time, so I'm planning to challenge her while visiting."

Terrance touched his cold nose. Using the Gym challenge to visit—Candice would probably be delighted, given her personality.

After all, Candice had heard plenty of Terrance's impressive achievements from Teacher Issac and had long wanted to battle him again. However, for various reasons, she had never gotten the chance.

"Wait, you know the Gym Leader of Snowpoint Gym?!" Bunta exclaimed in surprise.

"Yeah," Terrance replied.

Upon learning that Terrance was acquainted with the Gym Leader of the Snowpoint Gym, the girl with the scarf and the tall boy immediately eagerly asked Terrance about the Snowpoint Gym for Bunta.

"Well, it's not really a secret..." Terrance thought for a moment and then gave them a brief introduction.

However, Gym Leaders adjust their Pokémon lineup based on different challengers. Even with Terrance's explanation, his information was bound to be incomplete.

The most useful information a challenger could gain was simply that the Gym Leader specialized in Ice-type Pokémon. But then again, that was common knowledge.

"Oh! So the Gym Leader is a girl around my age?!" Upon hearing this, Bunta's confidence visibly grew. Terrance guessed it was probably just some baseless self-confidence.

Before heading to Snowpoint Gym, the group first stopped by the Pokémon Center to restore their Pokémon's stamina and condition.

At this moment, Terrance had Altaria, Castform, and Gallade with him. After some thought, he contacted Fallarbor Gym and had Ayan send over his Ice Vulpix.

"Little Vulpix, it's been a few days since we last saw each other. It should love Snowpoint City's environment—after all, Mt. Coronet is also a snowy mountain," Terrance mused.

"Oh, right! Since I'm challenging Candice, why not let Little Vulpix take the lead? She's an Ice-type Trainer, so this battle could give Ice Vulpix a lot of valuable combat experience."

Having made up his mind, Terrance felt himself to be quite smart for deciding to transfer over his Ice Vulpix.

After dealing with a few more things, the four finally set off for Snowpoint Gym.

Snowpoint Gym was located in an open area on the outskirts of Snowpoint City. Surrounded by snowy terrain, the Gym was designed in a style reminiscent of an igloo.

It truly matched the style of an Ice-type Gym...

Moreover, Snowpoint Gym's Gym Leader, Candice, was a genuine Ice-type specialist Trainer—unlike Terrance, who, despite being a Bug-type Gym Leader, raised Pokémon of multiple types.

"Are you challengers?" A Snowpoint Gym apprentice greeted the four of them. After a brief pause, she said, "The Gym Leader happens to be available. Please register first, and I will go notify her."

This Gym apprentice had a rather cold demeanor, and even her voice carried a chill. The four of them shivered slightly before obediently following her instructions.

"Registering?"

Terrance thought for a moment, then shook his head. There was no need for him to register since he wasn't planning on having an official Gym battle with a Badge on the line.

Now that he was a Gym Leader himself, it was much more convenient to have private battles. Going through the official process would only create unnecessary hassle.

"Terrance, you're not registering?" Bunta asked in surprise.

"You idiot! Terrance isn't planning to participate in the Lily of the Valley Conference, so obviously, he's not here for a Badge," the girl with the scarf said, giving Bunta a bonk on the head.

"Yeah... that's about right," Terrance replied.

In the end, only Bunta registered. After completing the process, the four of them waited for a while before the apprentice led them to the battle arena.

"Ice Terrain?!"

When they arrived at the arena, they found themselves standing in a massive ice rink. Even the pathways were made of ice. As they stepped forward, they shivered slightly, afraid of slipping. However, the moment they actually set foot on it, they realized their concerns were unnecessary. The surface must have been treated with some special material—when they walked on it, it felt stable, without the usual slippery sensation of ice.

"Welcome to Snowpoint Gym! Are you the challengers? Fantastic! I've been eagerly waiting for challengers lately... So if you want to earn a Badge, you'd better be prepared!"

With an energetic voice, the Snowpoint Gym Leader, Candice, walked in from the other side of the arena, greeting the challengers with a bright smile.

Her personality hadn't changed much since Terrance first met her—she was still an extremely battle-loving Trainer. However, due to the unique nature of Snowpoint City...there weren't many challengers here.

"Hello! I'm Bunta, the challenger! I will do my best in battle!"

"Great spirit!!" Candice's excitement grew. But then, as she glanced at the people standing beside Bunta, her eyes landed on Terrance.

She visibly paused—he looked somewhat familiar.

Noticing Candice looking at him, Terrance smiled slightly, took a step forward, and said, "Long time no see, Candice."
