Chapter 525 - Professor Kukui, Ilima

Seven days later, in the Alola region, Melemele Island.

Melemele Island is a northwestern island of the Alola region, and its guardian deity is Tapu Koko.

Here, there are also two outstanding Pokémon Professors: one is Samson Oak, a researcher specializing in regional forms of Alola, and the other is Professor Kukui, who focuses on Pokémon moves.

After arriving on Melemele Island, Terrance headed straight to where these two were located.

If he wanted to conduct research in the Alola region for four months, his current preparations were still insufficient. He needed to get some help from local researchers.

Before starting research on his own, there were two things he needed to take care of.

...

"Rotto~~"

"Rotto~~~"

Just as Terrance passed through a jungle and reached his destination, two voices caught his attention.

"Damn it, Rotom, don't run!"

What's going on?

Terrance looked over in confusion and saw a creature with an orange body, surrounded by a semi-transparent blue aura, flying toward him.

"A Pokémon?"

Upon closer inspection, Terrance realized that this Pokémon seemed to be running away from something—and it was heading straight toward him.

"Why would a Rotom be in a place like this? It's probably not wild," Terrance thought for a moment and decided to ignore it.

Although someone was clearly chasing after Rotom, it was best not to interfere before understanding the situation.

However, Terrance, who had planned to stay uninvolved, didn't expect that upon noticing him, Rotom would suddenly change direction and fly straight toward him. Though he didn't know Rotom's intentions, Terrance was not about to sit idly by.

"Vulpix, drive it away."

The Ice Vulpix resting on Terrance's shoulder leaped down, yawned lazily, and let out a gust of Powder Snow to fend off the approaching Rotom.

But to Terrance's surprise, the Rotom suddenly burst out with several times its normal speed. The unexpected surge in speed left even Terrance momentarily stunned.

Whoosh!

Rotom swiftly dodged the Powder Snow and flew right up to Terrance. Terrance furrowed his brows, turned his right hand into a grasping motion, and fully concentrated his meditation method. The moment his hands locked onto Rotom, he was ready to grab it.

"You still dare to come over while maintaining a physical form?"

"Rotto~~"

"Vul~pix~~" Suddenly, Little Vulpix let out a cry, causing Terrance to pause for a moment.

By the time he reacted, Rotom had already vanished without a trace.

"Rotom??~~"

Rustle, rustle~~

The grass was pushed aside, and a young boy with an Eevee walked out. He had dark-toned skin and deep pink hair, looking slightly puzzled.

"Excuse me, did you see a Rotom pass through here?"

Terrance looked at him. "And you are?"

"Apologies, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm a student from a nearby school, and my name is Ilima," the pink-haired boy said with a smile.

"A school? Is the principal Professor Samson Oak?" Terrance's eyes lit up as he asked.

"Yes," Ilima nodded.

Terrance breathed a sigh of relief. He finally arrived at his destination. That school was exactly where he was headed—both Professor Samson Oak and Professor Kukui were currently working there.

"Hello, my name is Terrance. As for Rotom..." Terrance had just been stopped by Little Vulpix, making him realize that Rotom probably didn't have any malicious intent.

But what happened next was beyond his expectations. Looking at Ilima, Terrance sighed, then pulled out the Pokédex clipped to his waist...

"I think... it might have gone inside here." Terrance casually pressed the power button, but the Pokédex screen remained completely dark, as if it had broken.

"This is..." Ilima gave a wry smile. "Looks like this might be a problem. I'm really sorry for dragging you into this. If it's convenient for you, please come with me to the school—Professor will definitely be able to fix your Pokédex."

Terrance had no objections. He was headed there anyway.

Rotom, an Electric/Ghost-type Pokémon, has a body composed of plasma. The hands formed by plasma are its only solid parts.

Rotom possesses a very unique special ability—it can travel through electrical cables in its plasma form and infiltrate various household appliances to transform into different forms. Currently, five such forms have been discovered: Microwave Oven, Washing Machine, Refrigerator, Electric Fan, and Lawnmower. As a technology-based Pokémon, Rotom has even more forms than Castform.

"It turned into plasma and entered my Pokédex?" Terrance thought to himself.

...

"Professor Kukui, I'm back." Led by Ilima, Terrance quickly arrived at the school.

Upon reaching the school, Ilima directly guided Terrance toward a room that looked like a research lab.

"Did you manage to catch Rotom?" A dark-skinned young man in a white lab coat stepped out. However, his coat was casually left open, exposing his abs in a rather eccentric manner. Terrance couldn't help but break out into cold sweat.

"Maybe this is an Alola thing..."

"Sorry, Professor Kukui. I was a bit too slow, and something unexpected happened," Ilima said awkwardly, scratching his head. "It seems that Rotom went into this mister's Pokédex, and... it looks like Rotom may have broken it."

Professor Kukui let out an "Ah," then looked at Terrance apologetically and said, "Sorry for the trouble. If you don't mind, I can repair your Pokédex for you."

Terrance took out his Pokédex. For him, aside from serving as an ID, it had almost no other use—so even if it got damaged, he didn't really mind.

However, more than the Pokédex, there was something else that Terrance was more concerned about. "You're Professor Kukui, correct? I'm Terrance, recommended by Master Victor."

"Huh!" Kukui was taken aback. "So you're Terrance?"

"I already heard about your arrival. You're welcome here."

Terrance smiled. Though he was a little surprised, at least he had found Professor Kukui.

...

Inside the room.

Terrance and Ilima sat on the sofa while Kukui examined Terrance's Pokédex and explained, "Rotom has completely drained its electricity and interfered with the Pokédex's circuitry. Once it regains consciousness and comes out, the Pokédex should return to normal."

"Ran out of electricity? Now that you mention it, when it saw me, it suddenly burst forward at high speed. That was probably when it used up all its energy," Terrance speculated.

"This Rotom is too cunning. Eevee and I chased it for a long time but still couldn't catch it..." Ilima sighed helplessly and shook his head.

"Haha... This little troublemaker sure gives people a headache," Kukui chuckled.

"I've been researching Rotom, but this one is a bit different from the others. It doesn't like being forced into electrical appliances. Out of the dozen Rotom, this was the only one that escaped during the experiment."

"So that's how it is," Terrance said in realization.
