Pokemon: This Ash Is Too Versatile-Chapter 709 - 379: The Unconventional Slaking and Unconventional Pikachu—The Final Clash of Ultimate Moves! (Part 2)
Don’t be fooled by Slaking being only at Champion Intermediate Level; its Statistical Ability is formidable, and under her father’s training, it successfully overcame some of its Ability weaknesses. Her father’s Slaking is undoubtedly the world’s strongest Slaking!
But what did she just witness? That mighty Slaking, which had never lost in a head-on clash, actually lost to a Pikachu in a direct confrontation? This joke is not funny at all!
Although Misty and Brock were a bit surprised, they also felt it was reasonable. If it were any other Pikachu, besides a miracle, there would be no other word to describe such an occurrence.
But if it’s Ash’s Pikachu... it seems like it’s not impossible.
Serena isn’t particularly knowledgeable about Pokemon, but she has blind faith in Ash and Pikachu. She always feels that if it’s those two... they definitely won’t lose!
The children around emitted a chorus of exclamations upon seeing Slaking get knocked away.
In the arena, Norman’s facial expression froze slightly. Just a moment ago, he thought Ash was digging his own grave by having Pikachu clash with Slaking. Turns out, the clown was himself.
Ash wasn’t blindly letting Pikachu go head-to-head with Slaking; he had full confidence in Pikachu, believing it would never lose, which is why he made that decision.
It was he who underestimated Pikachu due to common perceptions, ultimately causing Slaking to take a significant loss in the direct collision.
He should have known long ago; Ash is an incredibly strong Trainer. How could such a Trainer make such a rudimentary mistake? But most importantly, that Pikachu... is slightly monstrous!
No matter how wild his guesses were, he never would have thought Pikachu could surpass Slaking in power!
"Slaking, don’t panic, regain your composure first!" After using a move, Slaking is unable to continue using moves, even Norman’s Slaking is the same, so now it can only hold steady and wait for the opponent to make a move.
"Pikachu, use Iron Tail again!" Slaking can’t use skills now, and is even unable to move. It’s the perfect opportunity for an attack.
At Ash’s command, Pikachu’s tail once again gleamed with a metallic luster. In the next second, Pikachu shot out like lightning, appearing in front of Slaking in an instant.
"Next." Seeing this, Norman wasn’t flustered; instead, he calmly instructed Slaking to directly intercept the immensely powerful Iron Tail.
Ash’s expression tightened. Logically, Slaking shouldn’t be able to take action after using a skill, which is why so few people train Slaking despite its strength.
The Ability is purely a hindrance. Without it, even a Quasi-God would have to step aside.
But from Norman’s words, it seemed his Slaking could still move after using a skill?
"Bang!" A dull sound resonated in the arena, making it tremble. Slaking crossed its thick arms in front to block Pikachu’s heavy hit!
The ground cracked like a spider’s web under Pikachu’s attack. Though Slaking’s arms bore evident scars, it didn’t suffer too much damage overall.
Under the observation of Aura Power, it wasn’t just Slaking’s physical body resisting Pikachu’s attack. It had imbued its body with internal energy, meaning... Norman’s Slaking could indeed continue to move after using a skill.
"Impressive, Mr. Norman, being able to train Slaking to this extent."
"Oh no, it’s you, Ash, who’s impressive. Training a Pikachu to this level—the Superstar title is truly fitting."
The two engaged in a bit of mutual admiration, and then nearly simultaneously commanded their Pokemon.
"Pikachu, Zippy Zap!"
"Slaking, Take Down!"
With Slaking’s massive size, using Take Down at this range would almost certainly guarantee a hit.
But just as Slaking knocked Pikachu away and adopted a charging stance, Pikachu’s figure suddenly vanished mid-air.
All that was visible was a remnant golden arc of electricity in the sky. Before Slaking could react, it felt a sharp pain in its side as Pikachu’s small body collided into its waist.
The immense force struck Slaking, sending it flying once again. Its massive body rolled across the ground like a ball, finally crashing into the defensive barrier with a heavy thud.
Norman’s pupils contracted, his mouth slightly open, yet he said nothing. Fast... too fast! Ash’s Pikachu wasn’t just strong, but its speed was unparalleled.
Though Slaking’s big, its actions and speed aren’t slow. After all, Slaking resembles ape-like Pokemon whose main traits are agility and quickness, and Slaking naturally possesses these attributes too.
But Pikachu is actually faster than Slaking.
The skill called Zippy Zap seems to be the unique move that Ash’s Pikachu possesses. Rumors are one thing, but truly seeing it is quite unreal—a Pikachu having its own exclusive skill is truly unheard of.
After three encounters, Slaking was at a disadvantage overall. If Norman didn’t find a way to turn this around, this Gym battle might soon come to an end.
"Pikachu, don’t give him any breathing room, use Thunderbolt!" Just as Norman was pondering a counter-strategy, Pikachu’s attack followed closely.
This was a Pokemon battle, not child’s play. Ash certainly wouldn’t wait for the opponent’s skill cooldown to then go head-to-head. That would only be looking for trouble!
While Slaking couldn’t use skills, unleashing Thunderbolt again would surely inflict another wound, bringing the opponent almost to the endgame!
"Dodge." As the golden arc fell from the sky, Slaking’s hulking figure was surprisingly agile. With a powerful push of its hind legs, its muscular body darted to the side like an arrow, moving with a swiftness that belied its usually lazy demeanor.
Clearly, Norman’s training had long helped overcome the laziness hindering motions. Though using consecutive skills wasn’t possible, performing some conventional actions was no problem—at least it wouldn’t end up being a sitting duck.
The blinding golden electric strike hit where Slaking had just stood, creating a charred crater in the ground. Crackling electric arcs snaked across the surface, sending up billows of black smoke, illustrating just how terrifyingly powerful that Thunderbolt was.
"Slaking, now’s the time! Use Double-Edge!" Double-Edge is a move of full commitment, using one’s own lifeblood as the price to release a power far exceeding one’s ATK. Combined with Slaking’s own attack might, landing a hit on Pikachu would directly shift the battle’s balance and could even decide the winner!
"Double-Edge, huh? Bring it on then, Pikachu, use Volt Tackle!!" In response to Norman’s all-out gamble, Ash didn’t choose to have Pikachu dodge.
He was intending for this exchange to determine the winner!
Volt Tackle and Double-Edge have similar power, and likewise, the move causes recoil, so after this exchange, with the added effects of recoil, one of them could potentially knock out the other directly!
While Slaking is thick-skinned, it has already taken considerable hits from Pikachu, and Pikachu itself is the epitome of high offense and low defense. So the victor in this exchange would likely be the winner of this battle!
