Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 77: Arresting People
Live Chat: [!!!]
[Holy crap! Riley Perry’s had training!]
[I was so worried, but I guess I didn’t need to be!]
[It’s a shame the camera is on Riley Perry, so we can’t see anyone else. Thumbs down!]
A whole stream of "thumbs down" comments followed.
Seeing the tables turned so completely, Hubert Hughes was dumbfounded. "How is this possible? The wine was spiked with a knockout drug and an aphrodisiac. How do you still have the strength to fight?"
Riley Perry glanced at the unconscious Rocco, then back at Hubert Hughes. "Talk. Who told you to set me up? Think carefully before you answer, or you won’t like the consequences."
Hubert Hughes’s eyes darted around, and a guilty look flashed across his face. The camera on Riley Perry’s chest captured his expression perfectly.
"No one. We just saw you were attractive and the guys wanted to have a little fun. Besides, we weren’t going to screw you for free. We even have a contract ready. If you agree, we can sign it right now."
[So this is the infamous ’casting couch’ of the entertainment industry?]
[Fuck, this bullshit ’department head’ is making me sick.]
[I’ve always heard the entertainment industry was a mess, but today I’m seeing it with my own eyes.]
[Why don’t they try this with other people? Riley Perry should look at herself and find the reason.]
[More victim-blaming? Is the commenter above seriously sick in the head?]
By now, Riley Perry’s livestream had over fifty thousand concurrent viewers. The hashtag #RileyPerryExposesScammerDruggedNearlyAssaulted was already trending, and the viewer count was still climbing rapidly.
"Still lying to my face! Are you sure you’re really the Head of Advertising for Morgan Cosmetics?"
Hubert Hughes was speechless...
"If you knew I was a fake, why did you come?"
Riley Perry said, with a tone that could drive a person mad, "To see who it is that’s been trying to harm me, time and time again."
[Time and time again? What does she mean?]
[Tell us more, streamer! Has she been targeted before?]
Of course, Riley Perry couldn’t hear the comments in the live chat. Even if she could have, it wouldn’t have mattered. After all, her word alone wasn’t proof.
Just then, the door to the private room was kicked open. Riley Perry looked toward the entrance and saw Samson Sinclair.
"Miss Perry, are you all right?"
Riley Perry shook her head. "I’m fine." ’His reaction time is decent,’ she thought. ’If he hadn’t shown up until after the police arrived, I’d have been sorely disappointed.’
"Miss Perry, I can interrogate them for you."
Hubert Hughes was terrified. ’...This man with a scar on his temple is obviously bad news! I’m so scared!’
Samson Sinclair started walking toward Hubert Hughes, who was so frightened he nearly wet himself. Since she was still livestreaming, Riley Perry worried Samson might torture a confession out of the man on camera. She quickly stepped in to stop him. "Just watch them. The police should be here any minute."
Samson Sinclair stopped. The two of them waited in the room for about five or six minutes before the door was finally pushed open again. The police were here.
Hubert Hughes immediately burst out laughing. "Help! Officers, you’re finally here!"
’Bitch,’ he thought, ’the police are here now. Let’s see you act so tough! You injured so many of my men. Get ready to go to prison!’
The police captain rolled his eyes. "We received a call reporting that someone was being drugged and coerced in this room. And you’re the one who allegedly administered the drug with ill intent."
Hubert Hughes looked incredulous. "You’ve been fooled by her! I’m the victim here! Look, she’s the one who stabbed my hand. My buddies couldn’t stand by and watch, so they tried to teach her a lesson for me..."
"That’s enough. I bet you didn’t know this, but everything you’ve done has been broadcast live. We tuned into the stream as soon as we got the call!"
Hubert Hughes was utterly dumbfounded, so shocked he nearly fainted. ’That bitch was actually livestreaming?’
However, no one cared about his feelings. He was handcuffed and led away.
"Miss Perry, we’ll need you to come with us to give a statement as well."
Riley Perry had already ended the livestream. "My assistant was drugged. He needs to get to a hospital first. Can I give my statement after I take him?"
"Of course. We can take him there ourselves."
After all, everyone else in the room needed to be taken to the hospital anyway. What was one more?
As they were all heading to the hospital, the story of Riley Perry being framed and trapped was already blowing up online. The moment Justin Locke heard the news, he tried to call Rocco, but the call wouldn’t connect. Figuring Rocco was probably still unconscious, he stopped trying and rushed back to the office instead.
When a story like this started trending, he knew not everyone would side with the victim. There would always be people popping up to be contrarian or even sympathize with the criminals. And of course, some would seize the opportunity to slander Riley Perry. That’s why he rushed back to the office to manage the public narrative.
Sure enough, he had just sat down in his office when his agency received two separate orders to start a smear campaign against Riley Perry.
One was from a woman, a Ms. Chen.
Justin Locke didn’t need to investigate to know she was Gigi Walsh’s agent.
The other was from someone at Stellux—the assistant to one of their talent directors.
"Boss, should we turn these two jobs down?"
Justin Locke shot back, "Are you an idiot? Why would we turn them down? Why say no to free money? Have you forgotten the principle of ’backlash’? I want you to smear Riley Perry. Viciously."
Netizens are a rebellious bunch. If someone is praised constantly, people get sick of it and grow to resent them. But if someone is relentlessly and mindlessly attacked, people start to suspect it’s a deliberate smear campaign and become sympathetic.
He casually pulled up Riley Perry’s Weibo page. Her follower count was at 4.275 million. After her last incident, many casual observers had followed her, giving her a nice bump in fans. Today’s livestream had attracted another huge wave, but the total number was still too low.
Now, he would use this smear campaign to boost Riley Perry’s profile and attract a new wave of fans!
And he’d be doing it with her enemies’ money, no less.
A full two million.
Soon, a massive horde of zombies descended upon Riley Perry’s Weibo comments. No, wait, it was an army of paid trolls.
Their comments were utterly vicious and their tone incredibly aggressive. So much so that many of Riley Perry’s genuine anti-fans were caught in the crossfire. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Anti-fan: [Why is she always the one getting into trouble? This has to be scripted, right? Must’ve cost a fortune to hire all those extras.]
Paid Troll: [Did she spend your mom’s money on it? The cops showed up, you idiot. Do you even know how to be a hater? If not, then scram! Stop embarrassing the rest of us anti-fans!]
This comment quickly racked up over a thousand likes. The anti-fan it was aimed at was so mad they could have died!!
’You motherfuckers call yourselves haters, but you just ended up making Riley Perry look good!’
Anti-fan: [Riley Perry livestreamed today just to set someone up. This is entrapment! She’s got a black heart!]
Paid Troll: [Exactly! It was entrapment! How could she set people up like that? She got seven or eight people sent to jail, which could break up all their families. She must have the worst karma in the world! How can someone like that even be in the entertainment industry?]
Paid Troll: [Right, right! She should’ve just laid back and let them have their way. If those guys had just gotten what they wanted, none of this would have happened, right? She’s the one with the toxic personality!]
