Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 86: Then Call the Police
He was the most outstanding man in all of Dragonspire—rich, handsome, and self-disciplined. What woman who’d heard of Cole Sinclair hadn’t fantasized about one day marrying him and becoming his wife?
And now, a god-like, aloof man like him had been "tainted" by some B-list celebrity. How could they possibly tolerate that?
So, one by one, they all used the excuse of standing up for Melanie Chenning to give Riley Perry a hard time.
Unfortunately for them, Riley Perry wasn’t one to indulge them.
Without even waiting for the other woman to speak, Riley Perry fired away without a shred of mercy. "Where’d you get your double eyelid surgery? The sides are asymmetrical and completely lack any aesthetic appeal. You look bug-eyed. Hurry up and get that redone!
There’s also a problem with the filler in your chin. You’d better find some time to have it removed, or it could lead to skin necrosis!
Mm, I’m just saying this for your own good. You wouldn’t be so ungrateful as to not appreciate it, right?"
The woman covered her eyes, then her chin, and finally, just covered her whole face and ran off crying.
Riley Perry turned to the remaining three women. The moment her lips moved, all three of them crossed their arms over their chests. ’No! Don’t you come over here!’
Then they turned and quickly fled.
’Can’t mess with her, can’t mess with her. That woman’s mouth is just too venomous. We can’t win against her!’
With her surroundings finally quiet, Riley Perry waved Samson Sinclair over. "Let’s go get some food."
’I’m starving. Who wants to stand around jawing with those socialites? In this world, only good food is truly worth your time.’
’What were those women thinking?’ Samson Sinclair wondered. ’Daring to get in Miss Perry’s face when they were so outmatched?’
He turned his head and saw Riley Perry had already gotten two plates of food. On top of that, she’d grabbed a bottle of wine.
Riley Perry said, "Why are you staring at my wine? You want some too? Even if you do, you can’t have any! You have to drive later!"
Samson Sinclair said, "No, that’s not what I meant."
"Good. Now hurry up and eat. This food looks delicious, so eat up. Otherwise, we came here for nothing."
With that, she paid Samson Sinclair no more mind, eating and drinking with great enjoyment!
Samson Sinclair figured that since Miss Perry liked to drink, she must have a high tolerance. ’Besides,’ he thought, ’red wine doesn’t get you drunk that easily. If she wants to drink, let her.’
...
Cole Sinclair had just managed to finish exchanging pleasantries with a few of the older gentlemen. As he was about to look for Riley Perry, he was intercepted by Melanie Chenning. "Colt, you have a sensitive stomach. It’s late and you haven’t eaten, so you should probably drink less."
Cole Sinclair glanced at her, gave a slight nod, and was about to leave.
Melanie Chenning again stepped forward to block his path. "Colt, the Chennings previously submitted a letter of intent for a partnership to the Sinclair Group, but it was rejected on Friday. I’d like to know why."
Cole Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "You should be asking the person in charge of that. I’m the president of the Sinclair Group, but that doesn’t mean I manage every single thing."
’Countless companies and individuals seek to partner with the Sinclair Group every day. If I had to personally oversee every single proposal, I’d work myself to death.’
Melanie Chenning’s expression faltered, but to achieve her goal, she quickly composed herself. "I just thought... never mind. If the proposal didn’t even make it to your desk, Colt, it must mean our two companies aren’t fated to work together for now. But, if any good projects come up in the future, you have to think of our company, Mr. Sinclair."
Cole Sinclair remained silent, but his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. ’So what, exactly, has this woman been holding me up for all this time?’
Just then, Melanie Chenning’s phone chimed. Cole Sinclair tried to step around her and leave, but she blocked him again. "Colt, my best friend just told me that the woman you came with has been cornered by someone."
Cole Sinclair’s expression changed instantly. "Where is she?"
"Don’t worry, Colt. I’ll take you there right now."
Though Melanie Chenning sounded somewhat urgent, her eyes were filled with schadenfreude. Earlier, when Sylvia Lee and the others had been humiliated by Riley Perry, she had silently cursed them for being so useless.
’But in the blink of an eye, an opportunity presented itself. That little bitch Riley Perry was actually getting tangled up with that illegitimate son of the Jacobs Family. Now there’s going to be a good show!’
The two of them hurried upstairs. Several people were standing outside a lounge, and Cole Sinclair immediately spotted Samson Sinclair guarding the door.
Melanie Chenning hid the smile at the corner of her lips and said intentionally, "Oh my, why is there such a crowd? Don’t tell me something really happened."
As the two approached, the people at the door naturally parted. Melanie Chenning walked in smugly, but the scene she had anticipated wasn’t there. There were only two people in the lounge—one standing and one lying down. The one on the floor was none other than the illegitimate son she’d mentioned, Vernon Jacobs, and the one standing was, of course, Riley Perry!
"Riley Perry, I never thought you’d become this kind of person. When we were together, you were so innocent and kind..."
Riley Perry lifted her hand, admiring her fresh manicure for a moment before glancing disdainfully at the man on the floor out of the corner of her eye. "What kind of person have I become?"
Vernon Jacobs clutched his aching stomach and licked the corner of his bleeding lip. With a look of indignation, he said, "You’ve become materialistic and obsessed with money! You’re even a gold digger!
I came here today with good intentions, just to talk some sense into you, but you flew into a rage out of shame and hit me! I don’t even recognize you anymore!"
"Me, a gold digger? Me, materialistic? Is being a materialistic gold digger against the law? Huh? Is it illegal? Then call the police!"
The onlookers had to fight the urge to laugh.
"And you say I’m a gold digger? It’s a pity you don’t even have the qualifications to be my sugar daddy. You really are useless!"
PUH— Vernon Jacobs spat out a mouthful of blood. ’I’m a member of the Jacobs Family, for crying out loud!’ he thought. ’How could I not even be qualified for her to be my gold digger?’
Riley Perry feigned a look of terror and took two panicked steps back, as if afraid his filthy blood would splash onto her new shoes. "Everyone saw that! I didn’t touch you. You coughed up blood all on your own. Don’t you dare try to frame me!"
The gawkers at the door all thought the same thing: ’So, are we just supposed to pretend we didn’t see you kick him just now?’
Cole Sinclair took two steps forward and held out his hand to Riley Perry. "Come here."
Riley Perry gave Cole Sinclair a dazzling smile, her voice shifting from its previous harsh, merciless tone to one that was sweet and gentle. "President Sinclair, are you finished with your business?"
"Mm."
Pulling her into his arms, the heart that had been hanging in suspense finally settled. Cole Sinclair’s dark eyes swept over the man on the floor. Vernon Jacobs had been about to say something, but one emotionless glance from Cole sent an unprompted chill through his heart, and the words died in his throat. This man’s aura was too powerful; it was so oppressive he could barely breathe.
’Besides, after the scene I caused today, I’ve already lost all face. I can’t afford to stir up any more trouble.’
Only then did Cole Sinclair look toward the crowd at the door. He waited until they could no longer bear the pressure of his presence and averted their gazes before looking away. "Don’t worry," he said. "Anyone with eyes can see that Mr. Jacobs coughing up blood has nothing to do with you. They won’t spread rumors."
Sylvia Lee and the others nodded hastily. "Yes, yes, that’s right! We can testify that Vernon Jacobs coughed up the blood all by himself."
