President's Daughter's Bodyguard-Chapter 89: Sands Of Asteria
Chapter 89: Sands of Asteria
So, their airplane landed just as the sun began to melt into the horizon.
Danielle stepped down from the stairs and the warm air covered her like a soft blanket.
Theo shielded his eyes with one hand as he looked over the land of Asteria. It was ancient and alive at the same time. Sand met towering temples shaped like time itself had carved them to honor forgotten gods.
Palms moved gently in the wind like dancers greeting new souls.
Danielle’s heart, which had been bruised for too long, fluttered softly. This place felt far away from pain, far away from nightmares. Maybe here her breathing could become normal again.
Frank had arranged everything. A private boat waited to take them down the river that cut through Asteria like a silver ribbon. The crew bowed as Theo and Danielle approached.
They all had kind smiles and seemed respectful. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Danielle held tightly to Theo’s hand while boarding. She didn’t admit it, but every crowd still frightened her.
Every unknown face reminded her of a mask that hid Ethan. Theo felt her tension and gave her fingers a gentle squeeze.
He wasn’t going to let anything happen to her again
As the boat drifted through the water, the city revealed itself.
Lanterns glowed from balconies and markets sang with music and laughter. Children played along the riverbanks. Couples shared fruits and sweet drinks.
Life here seemed untouched by a crazy political war...
Theo leaned close to her ear. "Beautiful, right"
She nodded, unable to find words strong enough to match the view or her feelings.
Eventually the boat arrived at a private villa hidden behind tall walls draped in flowering vines. The night sky dazzled with stars so bright they looked like silver fireflies frozen in place.
Inside the villa, a group of women greeted Danielle with soft smiles. "We prepare clothes for you," one of them said. "Traditional dresses for the lady of courage."
Theo smiled when he heard that title. "They already know you are stronger than anyone."
Danielle blushed a little. She didn’t feel strong. Not after everything.
But she followed the women into a dressing room trimmed with golden fabrics and long mirrors that reached the floor.
When she stepped out again, Theo forgot how to breathe.
She wore a traditional Asterian outfit made of flowing silk in deep sapphire blue.
That fabric wrapped around her waist and opened at one leg, revealing smooth skin with every tiny movement.
Her top was fitted, decorated with tiny pieces of silver that caught the candlelight and made her look like she was shining with stars.
Her hair fell loose around her shoulders and a thin golden chain rested across her forehead.
She looked like she belonged to royalty. Like a goddess who did not know how divine she was.
Theo was left speechless and then his mouth parted slightly. "You are... incredible."
Danielle laughed under her breath, shy but pleased by his amazement. "It feels different wearing something beautiful instead of heavy straps."
Theo stepped closer. "This is who you are. You always shine, even when the world tries to bury your light."
Her eyes softened. Her heart warmed. Being near him no longer felt dangerous. It felt necessary.
Dinner was served on a rooftop terrace. The moon reflected in the river like a large pearl resting in water.
Theo watched her the entire evening. Every time she smiled, every time she breathed deeply as if testing the air of freedom, he felt his own heart repairing itself.
After they finished eating, they walked along the terrace under the starlight.
Danielle stood at the edge, gazing at the dark dunes beyond the city lights.
Theo walked to her side. His hand hovered near hers, but he did not touch her yet.
He wanted to... He wanted to hold her, kiss her, protect her forever. But he had seen too much fear in those same eyes not long ago. He couldn’t rush this moment.
She looked up and caught him staring.
"What" she asked softly.
Theo let out a breath he had been holding the whole night. "I keep thinking this is a dream. That I will wake up and you will still be tied to a bomb. And I will still be running and failing."
Danielle’s eyes dimmed with remembered pain. "But that did not happen."
Theo stepped closer. "Because you are here. Alive. And I am with you."
Her lips parted as if she wanted to say something, but the words got lost.
He cupped her face gently with both hands. His eyes flicked to her lips.
Then...Theo leaned forward just slightly. So close he could feel her warmth mix with his. So close he could count every tear she had shed and wish he could erase them.
Danielle placed her hand on his chest. Not pushing him away or pulling him closer, but just stopping him.
"Theo..." her voice trembled like fragile glass. "Do you really love me"
Theo blinked. The world seemed to stop breathing.
All he saw was her. All he had ever fought for lived in the question she just asked.
He leaned his forehead against hers. "With every breath I take."
She shook her head once. Not in disbelief, but in fear. "Love hurt me before. People pretend. People lie. I do not think I could survive if you broke me too."
Theo pulled back just enough to look into her eyes. "I would rather die than hurt you."
She swallowed thickly. Her fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt.
"Then say it again," she whispered. "Say it when you are sure it is not our trauma pretending to feel like love."
Her words hit him deeper than any wound Ethan had ever given him.
Theo didn’t rush, and refused to kiss her. He only held her hand with both of his.
"Then I will prove it," he murmured quietly. "Every day. For as long as you let me stay by your side."
"You’re so silly..."
"Someone! Please! Help me!"
