Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten-Chapter 229: The Research Begins
By the time Lin Zhengran finished reading the last book in the library, the sun was already setting. Fang Meng locked up the hidden door and the library door one after another.
Back in the car, the reddish sunset made the side ponytail swaying behind Fang Meng’s head appear a faint golden yellow, with the sunlight threading through her hair.
Her beautiful face, under the glow of the red light, looked dreamy — just like her name.
Lin Zhengran said, “Thanks for staying with me these past two days. Remember how you once said you owed me a favor when I helped you and Jiang Qian? You don’t have to keep that in mind anymore.”
Fang Meng was caught off guard. “Why? This time I helped you because I wanted to, not to repay that.”
Lin Zhengran chuckled and interrupted,
“I know. But you helped me a lot this time, even letting me go through all those old books. If I still went and asked you for that favor later, wouldn’t I just be a petty guy? So, let’s wipe the slate clean.”
Fang Meng suddenly realized something and gave a helpless smile.
“Did you never intend to ask me for anything in the first place? After all, back then you were good at everything — there wasn’t anything you’d need me for. Besides...”
She laughed,
“Back then, when I said I’d fulfill a request if you helped me patch things up, I really thought you wouldn’t help me, so I dared to say it. Now that I think about it, I was the one being petty. You really are a good person, Lin Zhengran.”
Lin Zhengran couldn’t help but find it weird how in this day and age, being called a “good person” by a girl felt awkward.
He laughed dryly, “I wouldn’t say I’m a good person. I already told you before, I don’t help just anyone. I only help people I want to help. Same goes for you, doesn’t it?”
Fang Meng smiled softly, not denying it.
“Yeah, if it were someone else in trouble, I might not help. But if you need me, Lin Zhengran, I’ll definitely help, no matter how many times you ask.”
She looked at him directly, her eyes sincere yet gentle.
“After all, you’re a very special existence to me.” She paused and added,
“In ancient times, if parents arranged a childhood engagement, I would technically already be your fiancée. It’s just that now it’s no longer ancient times.”
While sitting in the car, Lin Zhengran received a call from Pan Lin.
“Hello, Pan Jie?”
Pan Lin said, “President Lin, I’ve already had the hospital prepare everything on the list you gave me. I personally double-checked all the materials and equipment. Are you available now? If you are, I can bring you the room keys.”
Lin Zhengran hadn’t expected her to work so fast. He’d thought it would take at least a day to gather all that. While the materials weren’t rare, the quantity needed for experiments wasn’t small.
He thought for a moment and replied,
“No need, are you still at the hospital? If so, stay there and wait for me. I’m heading over now.”
Pan Lin immediately said, “Yes, I’m still here. I’ll wait for you.”
Fang Meng, who was driving, vaguely heard the conversation and asked after he hung up, “Are you going to the hospital?”
“Yeah.” Lin Zhengran put away his phone. “You don’t have to drop me off directly. Just leave me in the city, I’ll take a cab.”
“Alright. I don’t know exactly what you’re working on, but are you sure you don’t need my help?”
“I’m sure. You’ve already done enough these past two days. If I ever really need you, I’ll tell you.”
“Mm, then let me at least take you to the hospital.”
Lin Zhengran glanced at her but didn’t refuse again.
He simply said, “Thanks.”
Because of traffic jams in the afternoon, the car only made it to an intersection near the hospital. Lin Zhengran got out there, said goodbye to Fang Meng, and walked into the hospital.
Pan Lin was already waiting at the entrance.
Seeing him, she quickly came over,
“President Lin, you’re here! Everything’s ready.”
“Mm, that was fast. I thought you wouldn’t be able to get everything together until tonight.”
“You personally arranged it, of course I had to get it done as fast as possible.”
“Take me to the room.”
“Right away.”
Pan Lin led Lin Zhengran to a special laboratory inside the private hospital. The space wasn’t small, and the environment was clean and tidy, clearly rarely used.
The hospital had no idea what Pan Lin planned to do with it, but to outsiders, Pan Lin represented Jiang Jingshi. Naturally, the hospital followed her instructions to the letter.
Both the equipment and the environment were arranged to the highest standard.
Lin Zhengran entered, checked the instruments, reagents, and medicinal herbs, and was very satisfied.
“This will do. Pan Jie, you can go rest now. I’ll handle the rest myself.”
“Alright.” Before leaving, she hesitated and asked, “President Lin, I hope you don’t mind me asking, are you researching President Jiang’s illness? Do you know medicine?”
Looking at the materials, Lin Zhengran replied, “You’ll know in a few days.”
Pan Lin’s eyes lit up. She knew Lin Zhengran wasn’t an ordinary person — ever since she met him, he had pulled off one miracle after another. She nodded seriously.
“Then I won’t disturb you. Just let me know if you need anything.”
She quietly left the room.
Inside, Lin Zhengran noticed a white lab coat nearby. He took off his jacket, put on the lab coat, and slipped on gloves.
Looking at the well-prepared materials on the table, he officially began testing the theories he had formed over the past two days.
Meanwhile, after leaving the hospital building, Pan Lin sat in her car, only for her phone to ring again. It was Jiang Jingshi’s driver.
Pan Lin immediately picked up, “Hello? What’s wrong?”
The driver sounded extremely anxious on the other end,
“Pan Jie! Something happened. President Jiang just collapsed at home! I’m about to take President Jiang and Second Miss to the hospital!”
“What?!” Pan Lin was shocked. “President Jiang fainted at home?!”
“Yeah, we don’t know why. She just suddenly collapsed while walking.”
Pan Lin immediately guessed it must be related to the illness.
“Don’t panic. Bring President Jiang here. I’m already at the hospital!”
“Okay! I got it!”
At this moment, inside the villa, Jiang Qian, who usually appeared cold and indifferent while watching TV, was now anxiously holding the unconscious Jiang Jingshi in the courtyard, her eyes red with worry.
“Sis! Sis! What’s wrong?!”
She had no idea why this had happened so suddenly.
The driver quickly brought the car over. “Second Miss! Has the eldest miss still not woken up?”
Jiang Qian carried Jiang Jingshi into the car, her voice trembling,
“Just drive! Get to the hospital!”
The car sped toward the private hospital in the city.
Inside the car, Jiang Jingshi still showed no signs of waking up, and cold sweat had broken out on Jiang Qian’s forehead from fear.
She asked the driver,
“What’s going on? Has this ever happened at the company?”
The driver was so scared he couldn’t even speak properly.
“No, President Jiang has never been like this... just a few days ago—”
“A few days ago? What about a few days ago?!”
The driver suddenly realized he had said too much, recalling Pan Jie’s previous instructions.
Jiang Qian demanded, “Say it!”
The driver had never seen Jiang Qian so terrifying and didn’t know how to answer. He could only pray that they would reach the hospital soon and that President Jiang would be okay.
