Chapter 791: Self-Blame [Bonus]

[Three Minutes After Clearing the Third Floor - Just Outside the Unbreakable City]

Kent flew toward the direction of his team, who were feeling down despite having cleared the third floor as they had wanted.

Every last tiger was dead, and even the strange hellhound now stood tall and loomed over everyone since Veera had turned it into her undead.

Of course, their mood came from the fact that they had to abandon Plan A and go with Plan B, allowing Val to use her goddess form.

Before entering the dungeon, they came up with five plans.

Four of the five plans were ironed out to the last detail.

The first plan, dubbed Plan A, was simply for them to go into battle in their human forms, using their skills and wit to win at all costs.

It was a straightforward plan where those who complemented each other, such as Kaizo and Unity, would work together to kill and ensure all adversaries were taken care of.

It was that simple.

They used it on the first and second floors, and it worked flawlessly. However, upon reaching the third floor, it was proven that Plan A was inadequate.

They couldn’t possibly kill a Spirit Lord, not one that had mutated and had been eating the life force of the tigers for 50,000 years.

Even so, they came close, and had it not been for Kent’s battle with the Tiger King, things wouldn’t have ended like they did.

However, the plan wasn’t for Kent to handle the bigger threats.

Inside Plan A, they had a sub-plan in place where, when a major threat arose, Kaizo, Irina, and Veydris would handle it.

That was until even the eight new undead were added. Even so, with over 60,000 dangerous tigers against them, they knew dividing their team would be a bad move.

Aside from that, even if Kaizo, Veydris, and Irina were enough to handle the Spirit Lord, they would have to use their Gradeless skills, which, in this context, would mean they would fail Plan A regardless.

The idea behind this plan was for them to test their limits using a limited part of their strength. They created the plan as a guide and rule, but it seems they failed to meet their own expectations.

So, they adopted Plan B, and that’s what happened, souring their mood.

Val used her goddess form to handle the threat, and Alina used one of the seven Tier 18 Arrays her Primordial Spirits gave her to protect herself and her sister before she regressed.

The Odyssey of Death was one of the seven. It requires tremendous energy just to activate it. The power the ladies unleashed was but 10% of its true might.

To bring out its true might, they need a large amount of Spirit Crystals, or thirty Spirit Lords channeling their energy into the one that will activate the formation.

Even so, they would only be able to hold it for ten minutes. So it was a done deal when they activated it.

This also meant they lost despite ultimately winning.

Alina sat, channeling energy from Spirit Crystals given to them by her sister Vexthra before entering the dungeon.

Her sisters were doing the same.

After a few seconds, she looked at Kent hovering in the air over the city. Recalling how Camilla used more than she could handle to carve a path for them, a dull look appeared in her eyes.

"I am weak. If I had been just two minutes faster, my formation would have been complete, and none of this would have happened." Everyone turned toward her.

Unity rested her hand on her shoulder. "You are not weak, Alina. You just wanted to use the moment to train your speed, but who would have expected a Spirit Lord to appear all of a sudden?"

"Unity is right. Your profession requires you to spend more time in battles to know which and what Array to draw and which formation is needed.

You were terrific on the first and second floors. Don’t let this setback bring your spirit down," Elsa said, walking toward the busty beauty who knew everything had rested on her shoulders, but she had failed.

Among her sisters, she lacks the talent and physical ability for combat, especially in close combat. Her own skill is formation and arrays.

They were her primary attacks.

The moment her formation comes together, the battle will be as good as done. However, it takes her some time to get into her groove.

In the recently concluded battle, she made a mistake and had to restart the process from the beginning. She is perfect in looks, but even perfect beauties make mistakes.

In her case, the mistake cost them a chance to see just how much they can handle a battle with a Spirit Lord as an opponent among thousands of Spirit Kings and Emperors.

"Still, had it not been for the mistake I made, I wouldn’t have cost us the battle." Alina stood up and bowed in apology to her friends and sisters.

"I promise to do better next time. I won’t make a mistake next time." Tears fell from her eyes before she vanished into the tower, and then she entered her grid space to cry in silence.

Kent saw all this and, for a moment, his heart shook.

’Why are they trying so hard to prove themselves to me? Camilla did the same, and now she is in a coma for who knows how long. Now Alina too feels like she has let me down.’

He looked at everyone and could see they felt the same as Alina. The only ones with a calmer expression were the eight new undead and Veydris, who couldn’t express emotions.

The speech Kent had prepared suddenly felt inadequate.

He needed to add something spicier to it to calm their nerves and reassure them that they had done better than he expected.

Of course, they wouldn’t believe him, so a new idea appeared in his mind, one that he knew would solve their problems.

He waved his hand, and everyone vanished into the tower, appearing in the legion tower. He vanished and appeared in the harem tower.

Soon, he was in the glasshouse where Vexthra was seated, staring at the sleeping body of Camilla. Even as a goddess, she was feeling so many emotions that she didn’t know how to handle them.

In a way, learning to become human was affecting her in ways she never knew possible. If she managed to isolate and understand all these emotions, her progress would see a significant leap.

"How is she?" Kent asked the moment he arrived in the room.

"She is well. All internal injuries are healed now. The only thing left is for her to wake up. For that, even if I use my godpowers, it wouldn’t do anything to her.

She would have to wake up on her own, and I will be here when she does."

Kent clenched his fist and gritted his teeth, hearing even a goddess doesn’t have what it takes to wake Camilla up. The tower estimates she would be out for half a year or perhaps an entire year.

So she will be sleeping for a while.

Vexthra held his hand, sensing that the dragon was about to blame himself.

"It isn’t your fault, Kent. It was her choice, and you have to respect that. All of us would do that." She smiled.

"In case you are not aware, we want to be useful. She had her moment, and now, I am sure when she wakes up, she will feel accomplished.

So instead of feeling sad, be happy, your 18 beautiful wives who would do anything to help you."
