Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Take Back the Title of Mrs. Lancaster

Everyone else in the private room didn’t dare to speak. They were trapped, unable to stay or leave.

Ethan Lancaster’s mouth twitched. "If it weren’t for the two words ’Mrs. Lancaster’ attached to your name, do you think I’d let you off the hook?"

He was practically gritting his teeth, every word a piercing blow. He looked like he wanted to eat Raina Reddington alive.

"Those two words, ’Mrs. Lancaster’—you can just take them back." Raina was calm now. ’This man has no love for me in his eyes. What’s the point of me holding on to this marriage?’

This was something Cameron Fairchild had never understood. The Reddington Family wasn’t some top-tier powerhouse. Why didn’t Ethan Lancaster take this opportunity to kick her out? Any other woman would be better than Raina Reddington.

Her words provoked him, and for a moment, his thoughts clouded. Ethan Lancaster pointed toward the door. "Get out."

Raina Reddington straightened the collar he had yanked askew and walked out quickly.

She rushed outside, got in her car, and sped to the next club. Even though she knew it would probably be fruitless, she wasn’t willing to give up.

It was late at night by the time Raina Reddington returned to The Verdant Garden. She had assumed Ethan Lancaster wouldn’t be there, but she saw his discarded shoes in the entryway.

Raina walked into the bedroom. Ethan Lancaster was asleep; she could faintly hear the sound of his breathing.

Raina felt sticky and uncomfortable. She took a quick shower, and when she came out, she sat on the edge of the bed, drying her hair.

The bedside table lit up. Raina glanced over and saw Ethan Lancaster’s phone.

She held her breath. He must have put it on silent. Raina pulled the towel from her head. On a strange impulse, she got up and tiptoed over.

She didn’t dare to breathe as she reached out. Her fingertips brushed the edge of the phone, and she carefully picked it up.

Raina had seen Ethan Lancaster’s unlock pattern before. She drew it lightly on the screen, and a lock screen image popped up.

She opened WeChat first. The message that had just arrived was from Gwen Sharp.

"I want to stay at the hospital with my mom for a few days, is that okay?"

Raina scrolled up. This was their only chat history. She scoffed at Ethan Lancaster’s pointless effort. ’Why bother deleting the chat history? He’s already gone this far; could a few affectionate words possibly compare to them sharing a room?’

She quickly found Cameron Fairchild in the WeChat contacts and tapped on his name. There was some chat history here. Not wanting to miss anything, Raina scrolled up, line by line.

But there was really nothing of value. She couldn’t help but feel disappointed.

The light from the phone illuminated Raina’s face. She turned, terrified that Ethan Lancaster would suddenly wake up.

’Rather than waste time searching for clues, I might as well take a risk and be proactive.’

Raina had considered the risks, but she and Ethan Lancaster had already torn all pretenses down. If she could actually trick something out of Cameron Fairchild, it would be a win.

She typed out a message: "Where did you take Miles Hawthorne?"

Raina waited for a while, guessing that Cameron Fairchild might have already gone to sleep. A wave of irritation washed over her. Just as she was about to delete the chat history, a reply came through.

"It’s all been taken care of anyway. Aren’t women more fun in the middle of the night?"

Raina gripped the phone and typed another line, "Stop messing around. Where is he now?"

Cameron Fairchild called immediately. He was cautious, after all. This wasn’t something that could be explained in a sentence or two. Since they were both awake, a call was more direct.

How could Raina dare to answer? She was afraid Cameron Fairchild would get suspicious, but she didn’t dare to hang up either.

After the call registered as a missed call, Raina went back to WeChat and deleted the few lines of their conversation.

Cameron Fairchild didn’t call back. Raina deleted the call log as well, then carefully placed the phone back where she found it.

She lay down on the bed. Ethan Lancaster rolled over, and Raina quickly shut her eyes.

A moment later, the man sat up. She couldn’t tell if he had just woken up or had been awake the whole time. He picked up his phone and glanced at it.

Cameron Fairchild had called several more times. Ethan Lancaster called him back. Raina heard his voice, thick with sleep, as he drew out the word, "Hellooo?"

"What took you so long to answer?"

"It’s the middle of the night. What do you want?" Ethan Lancaster asked, annoyed.

They only exchanged a few words. Raina knew the jig was up. Ethan Lancaster hung up and tossed the phone onto the bedside table.

It slammed right into his water glass with a loud CRASH. Raina kept her eyes shut, feigning sleep. ’Worst case, we’ll just have another fight. As long as he’s not tired of it, I can play along.’

Ethan Lancaster lay back down without confronting her, probably because he thought it was pointless.

The two of them spent the rest of the night in a fragile peace. The next day, Raina woke up before her alarm went off.

Her sleep had been poor lately. The nightmares weren’t as frequent, but she always felt a tightness in her chest and would wake up after just a few hours.

She opened her eyes, only to see a face magnified right in front of her. Raina jumped, pushing herself up with her hands.

Ethan Lancaster was sitting up too, looking for all the world like he was ready to settle last night’s score.

Raina ran a hand through her hair. The man tossed the phone in his palm a couple of times. "You’ve gotten smarter. Figured out how to pry Cameron Fairchild’s mouth open."

"Yes," Raina replied coolly. "A shame I didn’t succeed."

"You must have felt awful last night, huh?"

She threw off the comforter and sat on the edge of the bed with her back to Ethan Lancaster. "However awful I feel, I won’t give you the satisfaction of seeing it."

Ethan Lancaster stood up first, looking down at her. "I’ll make sure you never see him again in this lifetime."

This was hardly the first cruel thing he had said to her. Raina got up and walked past him.

She had to do her rounds early in the morning. When Raina walked into the hospital room, she saw Gwen Sharp wiping her mother’s face.

Raina checked the patient’s wound, asked a few questions, and then walked out.

Passing the nurses’ station, she saw the counter was covered in flowers. As Raina took out a pen to write her rounds report, she asked casually, "Why so many flowers?"

"They’re from room 208. They sent us a lot of fruit, too."

"I seriously suspect that patient is loaded..."

Raina smiled and shook her head slightly. "All you guys do all day is gossip."

"I seriously suspect she’s a mistress!" another nurse whispered, leaning conspiratorially toward Raina. "The flowers and fruit baskets were all delivered by shop staff. That’s not normal, right? And not a single person has come to visit."

"Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. How can you call her a mistress after accepting her gifts?" The nurse next to her jabbed her arm. "That’s low."

"Excuse me..." A man’s voice cut in. Raina looked up to see a young man standing in front of her. "Is there a patient here named Farrah Chapman?"

"And you are?"

"I’m her daughter’s boyfriend."

Raina’s eyes narrowed slightly. ’Gwen Sharp has a boyfriend?’ The two nurses glanced at each other, not knowing how to respond. Raina casually pointed. "Room 208."

"Thank you."

As the man started to walk away, they heard Raina mutter, "But didn’t her boyfriend come during the surgery yesterday? He didn’t look like that..."
