Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 617: Silvia Baxter’s Mission (3)_1
Here it comes again.
Hansen Ruiz sighed helplessly in his heart. Ever since Julia Bluen had given birth to her son, his wife, Rachel, hadn’t been able to visit. It had already been half a month, yet she still asked about it every day, demanding that he describe in detail what Ivan Horne looked like, as if she were the child’s mother.
"Rachel, his first-month celebration is approaching. After that, you can see him."
Rachel pouted. She wanted to see him now.
Looking down at her own seven-month pregnant belly, round and prominent, everyone said it was a daughter.
A daughter would be even better, she thought.
Thinking of a daughter, Rachel Bailey naturally also thought of her mother-in-law, who favored boys over girls.
Several months had passed. Her mother-in-law had neither visited again nor made a single phone call. Even the villa her mother-in-law had bought across from their house had been entrusted to the Ruiz Family’s housekeeper to be sold off.
Her mother-in-law’s actions and approach made Rachel Bailey feel quite sad.
When she sought out Julia to cry about it, Hansen Ruiz had picked her up from the Horne Family. After Julia gave her some advice, Hansen had returned home and pressed Rachel until she could no longer resist his insistent questioning and finally told him what had happened.
After listening to her explanation, Hansen’s expression remained calm and unreadable, making it impossible for her to discern whether he was angry or indifferent. Despite being married for half a year, she still found it difficult to fully grasp his unpredictable thoughts.
Even now, she hadn’t heard Hansen say a single word about his mother.
Ultimately, they are mother and son, she thought. Hansen wouldn’t truly become his mother’s enemy. The threats Hansen had made before were just to scare his mother. This thought reassured her. No matter how much she disliked her mother-in-law or complained about not receiving her acknowledgment, she still didn’t want Hansen to fall out with his mother because of her. More importantly, she didn’t want Hansen to become an ungrateful wretch, retaliating and sabotaging his own family’s business.
"In another two or three months, our baby will be born too," Hansen said, tenderly pulling her into his embrace. He lovingly stroked her nose and added with a gentle smile, "There’s plenty of time ahead. If you want to see him, you’ll have many opportunities. Besides, his first-month celebration is very soon. After that, you can go visit Julia’s son."
Hearing him mention their child, Rachel’s face softened with affection, a natural motherly love radiating from her.
She reached out and gently caressed her belly. Hansen’s large hand covered hers, and the couple savored the sensation of their child’s presence.
Suddenly, the baby kicked their hands.
"She’s moving," Rachel exclaimed softly.
Hansen smiled tenderly, the warmth on his face deepening.
"She’s quite active, always kicking around," Rachel added.
"Active children are clever. I was quite mischievous as a child too. I loved taking things apart. I dismantled many of the appliances and pieces of furniture in our house," Hansen chuckled. With such an intelligent father, how could his child be anything but clever?
Rachel blinked, too embarrassed to admit that she hadn’t been an easy child herself.
Neither of them had been easy to manage. What kind of handful would their child turn out to be?
「Meanwhile, in A City.」
「The Ruiz Family Estate.」
As soon as Matthew Ruiz entered the house, he yanked off his suit jacket and threw it forcefully onto the sofa. His weathered face was contorted in anger, seemingly seething with rage, but upon closer inspection, the fury appeared somewhat feigned. "It’s infuriating! I don’t understand what’s happening. That little ungrateful wretch has actually started to prey on his own family’s companies!" he cursed furiously.
"Who’s the ungrateful wretch? What’s wrong with the company?" Alwin Ruiz, who was just coming down from the second floor, heard Matthew Ruiz’s disgruntled curses and the thud of his jacket. She asked with curiosity. Her husband was usually solemn and maintained the aloof demeanor of a CEO in public. At home, however, he was very gentle and patient, rarely bringing work troubles home so as not to bother her. This was despite the fact that she always kept a close watch on the company, and major issues usually couldn’t be hidden from her.
"Your precious son, Hansen! Some of our smaller subsidiaries have started showing losses, and the worst are even on the verge of bankruptcy. This is all Hansen’s doing behind the scenes!" Matthew Ruiz said, feigning righteous indignation. He knew in his heart, however, that it must be because his wife had angered their son, causing Hansen to retaliate against the family’s companies.
A few months ago, after Alwin returned from T City, she stopped going there altogether and hadn’t mentioned their daughter-in-law, Rachel, since. Wasn’t Rachel pregnant? She should be about seven months along by now. Why wasn’t Alwin as concerned as before? Why wasn’t she even asking about her?
It was precisely after Alwin’s return that their eldest son, Hansen, began to covertly target their family’s smaller companies. He stole business, set traps, and used every trick in the book, both overt and covert, causing those subsidiaries to suffer one after another.
Operations that were once profitable all started incurring losses. Within a few months, the damages had exceeded ten million. Although the money ended up in Hansen’s pockets, damaging their own companies was unacceptable. Some of the hardest-hit ones were on the brink of bankruptcy. If the head office didn’t bail them out, those smaller companies would all be finished.
"What?" Alwin Ruiz’s face paled. Her steps faltered, and she nearly tumbled down the stairs.
Hansen was attacking their own company?
Hansen’s warning suddenly echoed in her mind: "If you dare to hurt Rachel again, I will destroy what you value most. I’ll leave you with nothing and let you taste poverty..."
Would that little rascal truly dare to do this? What she valued most was her status and wealth.

But I didn’t actually hurt Rachel Bailey. Why would Hansen do this...?
I just found out Rachel Bailey was carrying a daughter and didn’t like the idea. To be precise, I don’t like Rachel Bailey. If Rachel had been someone I chose for Hansen, I would have been thrilled even if she had a daughter. After all, I myself, as a daughter, control all the power in both the Ruiz and Wallace Families.
Because I dislike Rachel Bailey, I subconsciously wanted to make things difficult for her. So, when I heard Rachel say she was expecting a daughter, I became particularly angry. I felt Rachel was short and plain, so her daughter would surely be unattractive, and I didn’t want to accept that.
I swear, I really didn’t hurt Rachel Bailey!
But what Alwin Ruiz didn’t realize was that her blatant preference for boys over girls had already deeply hurt Rachel Bailey. Her drastically different attitudes towards Rachel before and after learning about the baby’s gender had caused Rachel immense distress.
