Chapter 759: Chapter 758: Because I Love You, I am Overbearing (4)_1

"Hello..."

She had barely uttered the word when a large hand shot out and snatched her phone away. It was a new phone; she had bought it because the battery and SIM card of her old one were still with Noah Reyes. She hadn’t asked Noah for them back, fearing he might make some unreasonable demands, so she had chosen to buy a new one.

"Adele, are you free tonight? I’d like to treat you to dinner at the Emperor Hotel. After the rain stops, I’ll come pick you up," Gio Coleman’s voice came through, tinged with amusement.

"She’s not free. The three of us are having a family dinner tonight. I trust you’re a sensible man, Mr. Coleman, and wouldn’t want to be a third wheel, would you?" Noah Reyes coldly refused the invitation on Adele Horne’s behalf.

Asking my woman out to dinner right in front of me? He must have a death wish! If he wanted to die, he should have said so. I’d be happy to give my rival the most brutal death by dismemberment, free of charge!

"Noah Reyes, you bastard! What right do you have to make decisions for me? Who wants to have dinner with you? Who said we’re a family of three? I’m warning you, Billy is my son, not yours!"

"Do you dare to take Billy for a DNA test with me?" Noah Reyes cut off Gio Coleman’s call and stared coldly at Adele Horne.

Adele Horne was furious but speechless.

Because she didn’t dare!

"You... What gives you the right to make decisions for me? Are you always this overbearing and unreasonable?" Adele Horne accused.

I’ll eat with whomever I please. Does he think he can control me?

Noah Reyes gazed at her intently and said, word by word, "Because I love you, that’s why I’m domineering! I won’t allow you to be with other men! You want to go out for dinner? Fine, I’ll go with you! Remember, you are already my woman!"

Because I love you, that’s why I’m domineering!

Excuses!

Definitely excuses!

She didn’t believe in love—no, she didn’t believe in *his* love for *her*!

Love after a single night of passion?

Adele tried to retort, opening her mouth several times, only to find she had no counter-argument.

She was already his woman!

That was a fact.

And she had borne him a son!

「General Manager’s Office.」

"I understand the receptionist’s crush on Noah Reyes," Julia said. She was sitting on the sofa, explaining to Glades Horne, who stood with his back to her at the window, lips pursed in silence.

Glades Horne turned, walked over to her, and sat down beside her. "Darling, I understand what you mean," he said gently.

Julia blinked her almond-shaped eyes. "You really understand?"

Glades nodded.

Such was the tacit understanding between them; he knew what she meant even when she said nothing.

Adele had feelings for Noah, even if they were tinged with resentment. His presence in her life was a fact. It was a peculiar twist of fate—that kind of meeting, that intense infatuation, had made Noah Reyes unable to forget Adele, and she, in turn, had seared his image into her very soul.

However, Noah’s persistent pursuit hadn’t progressed; he was merely treading water. They needed someone, perhaps with Emperor’s backing, to help things along. Those two receptionists openly adored Noah. Keeping them on was a deliberate move to make Adele a little jealous and hopefully break the stalemate between her and Noah.

Julia laughed, then said with a playful sigh, "It’s no fun at all being married to someone so smart."

Glades Horne smiled indulgently. "You, my dear, are becoming quite the schemer."

"Can’t help it. I learned from the best—you."

He chuckled. "And what about our precious son?"

"That little one? He’s the perfect combination of us both."

"He’s just over four, and already so unfathomable. Who knows who’ll be able to keep him in check in the future," Glades Horne said, feigning concern, though inwardly he was thrilled to have such an intelligent son.

He could already picture it: in fifteen years, maybe even less—not the twenty one might expect—his son would become the new leading figure in T City’s business world, ready to make his mark. As for who could manage his precious son, he wasn’t worried in the slightest. The God of Marriage would surely find a good woman for him.

"Camila! Oh, I adore Camila. Let’s reserve her to be Ivan’s wife," Julia exclaimed the moment Camila Ruiz was mentioned, sounding as if she were ready to spirit the girl away.

Julia dearly wished to unite their families through marriage with her good friend, much like the Bluen and Horne families. Years ago, Chris Bluen and Gian Horne, being close friends and seeing their children play together, had entertained the idea of becoming in-laws. So, when Ruby Bluen became Glades Horne’s girlfriend, at least in name, both families were delighted, seeing it as a natural progression. Rachel Bailey felt the same way. In Rachel’s eyes, Ivan Horne would undoubtedly be as devoted a man as his father, Glades Horne. And what mother wouldn’t want her daughter to marry a devoted man?

Unfortunately...

"Ivan and Camila aren’t like us," Glades Horne remarked pointedly.

His son was very kind to Camila, always protective of her, but in his eyes, there was no romantic future for them. His dear wife was no fool; he trusted she could see it too.

"They’re still young; things might change as they grow up," Julia said, her voice laced with hope. She truly did want Ivan to marry Camila.

Glades Horne chuckled softly, looking at her intently as he asked, "Do you really think a grown-up Camila will end up with Ivan?"

Julia pondered for a moment, then simply smiled without answering.

He wrapped an arm around her shoulder, his indulgent voice reaching her ear, "Let’s take a page from Grandma’s book: ’Our children and grandchildren will have their own fortunes.’ We shouldn’t interfere; let nature take its course."

Julia smiled and nodded.

After a moment’s thought, she couldn’t help sighing. "Still, it’s a shame; suitable daughters-in-law are so hard to find." She sounded as if Ivan were about to get married any day now.

Glades Horne chuckled. Their son was only a little over four. It was far too early to be thinking about daughters-in-law; his future wife might not even have been born yet! And as for little Camila, anyone else who dared to show interest would have to get past their son Jimmy Horne’s fists first.

"Glades, when we get home tonight, Ivan will surely know I’m pregnant. Do you think he really won’t be upset?" Mentioning their son, Julia’s thoughts immediately turned to her current pregnancy.

"I’ll talk with Ivan tonight," Glades said.

"He’s so young. What can you even talk to him about? Will he understand?"

Glades Horne didn’t reply. That was a conversation for him and his son.
