Pursuing Her Best Friend after Confession Failed-Chapter 343 - 154: Tonight, Sleeping in Xia Zhijin’s Boudoir_3
Chen Qiuhan said, "Your third uncle is also in Shancheng. When you go tomorrow, have him join you. His alcohol tolerance is much better than mine or your second uncle’s. Let him test your limits."
Li Yuan subconsciously touched his nose, a flicker of regret in his eyes. I should have drunk less today and just pretended I couldn’t hold my liquor. I really overdid it. My easy days are over. From now on, whenever I come here, I’m definitely going to get some ’special attention.’
After dinner, Yu Qiang, who was staying the night, went with them to Chen Qiudong’s house to sleep. In the countryside, people were short on many things, but houses weren’t one of them. In these remote mountain villages, you could build freely as long as you had the land.
"Jin, you and Zixia can sleep in my bed tonight," the grandmother said, "and let Little Li sleep in yours."
"Hee hee, Grandma’s right! I’d love to hug Zhijin while I sleep. She smells so nice." Li Zixia clung to Xia Zhijin’s arm and made a playful face at Li Yuan, as if in triumph.
Li Yuan just smiled, unfazed. It’s my first visit. Of course her family isn’t going to let us sleep together. They all know we’re probably living together in Modu, but appearances still have to be maintained.
That night passed without any drama. Li Yuan didn’t suffer from sleepwalking, nor did he make any moves to wander into the wrong room and climb into Xia Zhijin’s bed.
The next morning, after a simple breakfast, Yu Qiang drove Li Yuan, Xia Zhijin, Li Zixia, and their grandmother. The eldest uncle, Chen Qiuhan, had borrowed a battered old black Volkswagen from the village to drive Xia Zhining and Chen Qiudong. The large group set off for Shancheng in a grand procession.
In the countryside, buying a house was a major event whose importance couldn’t be overstated. Often, it required hosting a banquet for the entire village and all your relatives, who would contribute cash gifts.
They left at six in the morning and didn’t reach Shancheng until ten o’clock. The third uncle, Chen Qiuhua, who worked in the city, had taken the day off after hearing Li Yuan was coming and was waiting for them at the agreed-upon location.
As they got out of the cars, the old woman pointed to a tall, middle-aged man in a suit. "Little Li, this is your third uncle."
Li Yuan quickly offered him a cigarette and greeted him, "Third Uncle."
Chen Qiuhua sized Li Yuan up and nodded in satisfaction. "Little Li, your eldest uncle told me you can hold your liquor. We’ll have a few drinks at lunch."
Li Yuan awkwardly tried to change the subject. "Grandma, Uncles, let’s go look at the houses first."
Chen Qiuhua nodded. "Alright, houses first."
The group arrived at a real estate agency with an impressively decorated storefront. Seeing such a large group of people arriving to look at properties, the sales manager immediately rushed over to greet them warmly. "Hello, everyone! Are you here to see some houses? Our company has a wide selection of high-quality properties. What sort of requirements do you have in mind?"
Li Yuan stated his conditions directly. "I have a few requirements. First, it must be in a prime school district in the city center. Second, it needs to be on a low floor, preferably a duplex or a large single-story flat, with an area of over 160 square meters. Third, it has to be exquisitely furnished and move-in ready. Fourth, the property management must be excellent. And fifth, I’d prefer if the ownership transfer can be completed within a day or two."
The sales manager’s eyes lit up as she listened to Li Yuan’s list. Agents weren’t afraid of clients with many requirements; they were afraid of clients with too few. The more specific the demands, the higher the client’s purchasing power and intent.
The three Chen brothers listened to Li Yuan’s criteria, secretly dumbfounded. They grew nervous and didn’t dare say a word. To meet all those conditions, the house would certainly not be cheap. Although housing in Shancheng wasn’t exorbitant, a property in a prime school district in the city center would still cost several thousand yuan per square meter. A duplex or a large flat would definitely have a price tag starting in the millions.
The Chen brothers stayed quiet, their gazes shifting to the delicate and elegant Xia Zhijin. A thought suddenly bloomed in their minds. If only we could have a few beautiful daughters like her, we could just lie back and relax for the rest of our lives. Having daughters is so much better; sons are just a money pit.
After hearing Li Yuan’s requirements, the sales manager quickly replied, "Sir, we have several listings that match your criteria. We have brochures for them; I’ll go get them right now."
A moment later, the manager returned with a stack of property files. "Please, take a look. These are all exquisitely furnished, move-in ready homes in prime locations near the city center. The build quality is excellent..." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Li Yuan remained noncommittal, handing the brochures to Xia Zhijin, her three uncles, and the grandmother. "Grandma, Zhijin, Uncles, you have a look too."
The Chen brothers took the brochures, a bit reserved. As they looked at the houses pictured inside, they stiffened, a wave of discomfort washing over them.
Li Yuan patted the head of Ning, who was hiding behind her grandmother, and smiled. "Ning, you come look too. See which house you like. You’ll be living here most of the time, after all."
Due to her family background, Xia Zhining had a very introverted personality. Hearing Li Yuan, she instinctively glanced at her grandmother.
The old woman smiled as well. "Ning, listen to your brother. Go on and take a look."
Xia Zhining let out a soft "Okay" and cautiously took one of the brochures.
After a while, they had looked through the details of all six properties the sales manager had presented. Li Yuan was quite satisfied with all of them. "Zhijin, Ning, which one do you two like?"
Xia Zhijin looked nervous. She glanced at Li Yuan, who gave her an encouraging nod, then pointed to the one with the smallest area.
Li Yuan was speechless. It was a large, single-story flat, about the same size as the apartment he’d bought in Modu. However, housing prices in Shancheng were much lower than in Modu; even in a good location, they were five or six thousand yuan per square meter at most. The house Xia Zhijin had chosen was the very first one he had mentally dismissed.
