Put Away Your Divine Techniques Now!-Chapter 1061 - 316: Silent as Gods and Ghosts (Part 2)
Looking at the twisted Ghost Race person on the ground, Chen Yan pulled out the straw from his mouth, lifted him up, and whispered fiercely, "Where is the place you’re planning to ambush?"
The Ghost Race person’s mouth made a creaking sound, but his eyes were full of venom, not uttering a single word.
"Not talking?" Chen Yan did not hesitate. He twisted the man’s neck with force.
With a crack, the resentment in the man’s eyes froze.
Chen Yan released his grip, dropping the body to the ground. Gu Tongbing frowned, "If we can’t get information from him, where should we go? If their people are ambushed at the mouth of the valley..."
Chen Yan rubbed his chin, "We don’t know their ambush location. We just need to guess a place they wouldn’t dare to attack, and run in that direction."
Gu Tongbing’s eyes immediately lit up!
The two looked at each other and spoke in unison:
"White Elephant!"
·
If someone plans to cause trouble in his own home, regardless of where he chooses to do so, it is certain that he will deliberately avoid places where valuable items are kept!
For the White Elephant Tribe, the most valuable item is undoubtedly their sacred Divine Beast: the white elephant!
·
This herd of the White Elephant Tribe shepherds about forty white elephants.
At night, these white elephants rest in the southwest corner of the valley.
This is on the outskirts of a grove, and it’s precious that a spring gushes from underground, forming a shallow pool with a diameter of about twenty meters.
White elephants are gigantic. Even when resting, they cannot lie down but sleep standing.
Under the night sky, dozens of mountain-like white elephants stand quietly outside the forest, silent as stones. Yet with the wind, one can faintly hear their heavy breaths, rising and falling.
Clearly, every white elephant is well cared for. Around their resting area, piles of various fruits and plants are stacked like mountains.
In addition, more than ten herding Ghost Race people rest by the edge of the spring pool.
The white elephants are very clean. The Ghost Race people responsible for herding them fetch spring water every night, helping clean them of dust and filth. They even use herbs stored long-term by the tribe to treat any spots left by parasites or minor wounds.
Chen Yan and Gu Tongbing snuck out of the village under the cover of darkness, encountering no obstruction along the way.
The village at night was silent, with only some wooden sheds having lingering bonfires, though most were nearly extinguished, leaving faint and flickering embers.
The tribe had no guards or patrols set up. The two of them practically walked out of the village unhindered.
While passing through the woods, they encountered minor trouble—the Ghost Race people tending to the white elephants had left watchers, likely to feed the elephants during the night.
These folks treated the care of the white elephants as the most important task in the world.
Chen Yan and Gu Tongbing lay under a big tree, watching as two elephant shepherds, under the night sky, laboriously carried bundles resembling bananas close to the white elephants before returning to the forest edge to find a grassy spot to sleep.
"What are you thinking about?" Gu Tongbing tilted his head to look at Chen Yan, noticing Chen Yan was staring into the distance, and asked quietly.
"I’m thinking these people live too comfortably and are too relaxed. In such a situation, a hundred elite soldiers could launch a sudden attack and bring disaster upon the village." Chen Yan sighed.
He remembered the Snow Cliff Pass, and the Fierce Beast Race living under extreme harsh conditions.
Gu Tongbing shook his head, "This place is deep within the Ghost Race territory, and hasn’t seen war for years. If this were near the City of No Return or the borders of the Demon Race territory, the Ghost Race tribes wouldn’t be so lax."
"Then let’s give them a lesson," Chen Yan said calmly.
He patted Gu Tongbing on the shoulder, "Hide well here."
With that, he swiftly crawled forward, using the shadow of the large tree and the cover of bushes and darkness.
Gu Tongbing squinted his eyes, watching as Chen Yan gradually approached, his eyes gradually lighting up.
This fellow even used the wind-borne heavy breathing of the white elephants to mask his footsteps. He halted immediately during each pause in the sound of wind and breath, carefully observing his surroundings.
Chen Yan was patient, taking several minutes to approach the sleeping spot of the white elephants.
He even crossed over a sleeping elephant shepherd’s head, nonchalantly slapped a Talisman on him, and that shepherd instantly awoke but couldn’t move or make a sound.
Chen Yan then knocked him out with a slap.
Like this, Chen Yan finally reached the side of the white elephant herd.
He didn’t get too close but moved to a pile of the elephants’ food, using the mountain of provisions to conceal himself, then began to crouch down.
As if retrieving something, he buried it deep within the food pile before casually moving towards the next pile.
