Chapter 214: How Do You Choose?

"You have to think about it—right after the scandal broke, the very first thing she did was pour fuel on the fire. In the past, she would never stoop to something that childish. But this time she didn’t hesitate at all. She even dragged you straight to the top of the trending list and let the whole world tear you apart.

"And if you look at who benefits, it also makes sense. It’s very possible she just wants to stop you from marrying me—then she can keep Morgan Group for herself."

Ethan’s words hit Olivia like a slap—suddenly everything made sense.

Why hadn’t she considered that every move Sophia made could be for the sake of the company?

Seeing her stunned silence, Ethan continued, "Sophia is definitely waiting for you to make a statement. If you admit the relationship, your acting career is done. If you don’t admit it, she can openly take back Morgan Group."

Olivia finally came to her senses.

"So she almost tricked me."

"Olivia, believe me—why on earth would I hurt you? You’re the woman I love most."

"Alright, enough. We’re getting married soon anyway. There’s no way I’ll let her get Morgan Group. But as for the online mess—I’m not going to admit anything. I’m not ruining my career."

The wedding had to happen, and it had to be announced—just not now.

Sophia, Sophia... who would’ve thought that after I visited you yesterday, you’d give me such a wonderful surprise today?

Is it because you and Lucas fought?

Heh.

Without Lucas, I’ll enjoy watching how hard you crash.

...

On the other side—

Sophia was already dressed and ready, wearing a cropped top that showed off her defined abs.

Lucas walked in, froze for half a second at the sight of her outfit, then strode over and yanked her shirt down.

"What are you pulling for? A crop top isn’t magically going to turn into a long T-shirt."

"It’s chilly out. You shouldn’t be exposing your waist."

He kept tugging stubbornly.

"My neck—you’re choking me."

Sophia slapped his hand away and continued, "It’s not even cold today."

"Says who? Either change clothes or let me ’fix’ this one."

Sophia stared at him suspiciously.

Fix? Fix how?

Lucas went to the closet and pulled out a fully modest navy shirt. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"Wear this. Wait here."

He took her original crop top and walked out.

Before leaving, he peeked back—Sophia hadn’t followed.

Perfect.

He grabbed scissors, cut the crop top into strips, and tossed the fabric shreds into the trash.

Staring at the remains, he let out a cold, satisfied laugh.

And she thought she was going to wear this out? Over my dead body.

Upstairs, Sophia still had no idea her shirt was now confetti.

A moment later, Lucas came back.

She held out her hand. "Where’s my top?"

"Sophia... I need to tell you something very serious."

"Say it."

"Do you believe aliens exist?"

Sophia’s expression slowly turned into pure exasperation as she waited for him to continue his nonsense.

Lucas played along flawlessly.

"While I was trying to alter your shirt, a blue light flashed. It spoke to me. It said it wanted to self-destruct. Then it exploded... and turned into strips."

Sophia inhaled deeply, forcing a smile while glaring at him.

"So you shredded my shirt and won’t even let me see the corpse—is that what you’re telling me?"

"No. It really self-destructed."

"Oh? Really? Because I’ve been reading up on some very effective husband-taming techniques online lately. For example... kneeling on the remote control, kneeling on a durian. Kneeling on a washboard is so outdated now. Between the remote, the durian... oh—almost forgot—the cactus. Which one do you prefer?"

Lucas stiffened inside. He had never heard of any of these things.

"I prefer you."

He immediately pulled her into his arms, apologizing on the spot.

"Baby, I’m sorry, I was wrong. I just don’t want you wearing something that short. Only I get to look. If anyone else even tries, I’ll gouge their eyes out."

Sophia sighed helplessly, pushed him away, and went to the bathroom with another top.

The two of them basically teased and bickered their way to the company. They hadn’t even gone inside yet when Sophia noticed someone bundled up tightly, lurking nearby and staring at her.

She glanced over. The person didn’t move.

She recognized her—Olivia.

Of all people, she didn’t expect Olivia to show her face anywhere near the company.

Was she here to watch her fall apart?

Yesterday Olivia tried to stir up trouble between her and Lucas, but after they talked things through, the misunderstanding was gone.

If Olivia thought her plan had worked, then in Olivia’s little fantasy, Sophia and Lucas should be arguing right now, shouldn’t they?

Sophia’s lips curved into the faintest, almost invisible smile.

Since Olivia came all the way here hoping to watch a show... why shouldn’t she give her one?

She kept her expression serious, waiting for Olivia to approach.

Sure enough—once Olivia realized she’d been recognized, she had no choice but to walk over.

"Sophia, can we talk?"

"Talk? About what? Didn’t you make yourself perfectly clear yesterday? Yes, Lucas and I fought. You came to see the aftermath, didn’t you? But this morning, I discovered something interesting. Aren’t you planning to make your relationship with Ethan public? You’ve got time to show up here, so I guess the scandal didn’t hit you that hard."

Her vague, deliberate wording made Olivia’s expression darken.

"So it was you."

"Hm?"

"You leaked my location and had paparazzi lying in wait to catch me. You’re just forcing me to choose between my career and Morgan Group—so you can get what you want."

Sophia stared at her for a second—almost speechless—before realizing Olivia had been manipulated again.

Good grief. Her IQ was becoming physically painful to witness.

"You think I have that much free time to stalk you? If I wanted to ruin you, I have a hundred—no, a thousand—ways to do it. Why would I pick the dumbest and most tedious one? Let me guess—you listened to someone whispering nonsense in your ear again? And now you think I set you up?"

She frowned.

"Olivia, honestly—at this point you still can’t tell who around you is a person and who’s a dog?"

Arms crossed, she added with a mocking laugh, "I used to worry you might actually make a comeback someday. Clearly, I was overthinking it."

"You—!"

Olivia’s fists clenched so hard her knuckles trembled.

"What? Angry? Want to hit me? If slapping me will calm you down, come on."

The truth was, the woman in front of her had the desire but absolutely no guts.

Sophia shot her a cold look.

"It wasn’t me. I have no reason to admit to something I didn’t do. But I am curious... between the two, which one will you choose?"
