Chapter 216: The Visit

Inside was a well-kept Barbie doll. She wasn’t wearing a pretty dress—instead, the clothes on her body were torn in places, with faint fingerprints left on them.

Sophia’s face paled slightly. She looked at Amelia urgently.

"Who gave this to you? Where was it found? You said it was a woman—what kind of woman? Was she older? What did she look like?"

Amelia was momentarily stunned by the rapid-fire questions.

"President Morgan, I picked it up from the front desk and brought it up for you, so I don’t know much either. The front desk said, judging by her voice, it was a middle-aged woman. She was wearing a mask, so they couldn’t see her clearly, but she had fine lines at the corners of her eyes and very gentle eyes."

Sophia strode straight to the security room.

"Pull up today’s lobby surveillance footage."

More than ten minutes later, she saw a woman in a long dress enter the building, hand a cardboard box to the front desk, say a few words, and then leave quickly.

Sophia stared at the woman’s figure in disbelief.

"Zoom in. I want to see this woman clearly."

But once the footage was enlarged, she froze.

Face aside, just her build alone looked strikingly similar—and there was a red mole on her ear.

"Adjust it again. See if you can get a clearer look at her face."

The technician ran multiple enhancements, but with the mask on, her face still couldn’t be made out.

"President Morgan, is something wrong? Do you want us to run a full investigation?"

"No need."

The urgency in her heart suddenly settled.

That woman had appeared more than once. If she was willing to show herself again and again, then she would definitely come back.

The interval between the last two appearances hadn’t been long. If Sophia was right, the next time wouldn’t be far off either.

"Keep an eye on her. If you see her on the cameras again, report it to me immediately."

"Yes, President Morgan."

Back in her office, Sophia stared at the doll in her hands, lost in thought.

The doll had been one of her childhood toys.

She’d never liked fancy dresses. Instead, she preferred designing clothes for her Barbies herself, wanting to dress them in all kinds of outfits.

So she’d often grab scissors and cut fabric at random, sewing the scraps onto the doll.

When her mother discovered it, the two of them had even dipped their thumbs in paint and left thumbprints on it together.

"Last time it was the coin purse. This time it’s the Barbie doll... Mom, is it really you?"

She murmured to herself.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated, snapping her out of her thoughts.

She glanced at the screen and answered. "Hello, Harper?"

"Sophia, something just blew up online. They’re saying your six kids aren’t Lucas’s biological children. The topic’s already hotter than Olivia’s."

"What?"

She opened the trending topics, momentarily stunned—then laughed in disbelief.

[Shocking Secret! City A’s Emperor-Level CEO’s Six Children Are Not His Biological Offspring!]

The moment she saw the headline, she thought of Olivia—and Aiden.

If Olivia was already cozying up to Aiden in a hotel, of course he’d help her deal with certain things. She just hadn’t expected them to roll out such a ridiculous rumor.

"Harper, I got it. Hang up for now."

She read through the trending post carefully. The person who posted it spoke with alarming confidence, and the so-called "evidence" looked almost convincing.

Meanwhile, Olivia’s trending rank dropped sharply.

The best way to divert attention was to release an even bigger, juicier piece of news.

Aiden was really digging his own grave.

The situation kept fermenting, growing more intense by the hour.

Sophia directly released photos of the kids from when they were little—along with childhood photos of Lucas himself.

Such a simple move instantly slapped every rumor-monger in the face.

If they weren’t his biological children, how else could there be six miniature versions who looked exactly like him?

Sophia held the doll in her hand, the corner of her lips lifting slightly, then set it aside.

As evening fell, Lucas was waiting downstairs as usual.

When Sophia came down, she said bluntly, "Hasn’t it been a while since we visited your uncle? I think tonight would be a good time to stop by."

She only needed to say that much—Lucas immediately understood what she had in mind.

The corners of his lips curved slightly. "Alright."

...

Ding dong—

"Mrs. Mars, could you open the door?"

Julia called out, and a woman wearing an apron walked over.

"Ma’am, it’s Young Master Lucas and Sophia."

Julia looked surprised as she turned toward them. "You two? What brings you here?"

Sophia smiled, carrying several gift bags, and handed them to Mrs. Mars beside her.

"Auntie, Lucas and I came to see you today. How have you been lately?"

Julia frowned almost imperceptibly. No one comes without a reason.

Especially when the history between her and these two was anything but pleasant—yet now they were acting unusually cordial.

Something was definitely going on.

"Sit down," Julia said. "Mrs. Mars, add two more place settings."

Mrs. Mars went into the kitchen, then returned with extra tableware and set it on the dining table.

Julia asked curiously, "So what wind blew you two over here?"

"Auntie, are you home alone today? Where’s Uncle?"

"There was still work at the company, so he went in to work late."

"Working late?" Sophia replied lightly. "I thought I saw him near the WS Hotel today. Guess I was mistaken—must not have been Uncle."

Julia’s eating slowed.

She’d lived more than half her life—she’d heard every kind of insinuation there was. She could clearly hear the meaning beneath Sophia’s words.

It had been a long time since Aiden had worked late. And tonight, the ’overtime’ seemed unusually long. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Is that so? Branch offices can get busy sometimes," Julia said calmly. "At least if he’s at the office, it’s better than coming home just to make me angry."

Sophia raised an eyebrow, feigning curiosity. "Angry? Are you and Uncle fighting?"

"Recently he said it was our anniversary," Julia replied. "But when I thought about it carefully, it wasn’t an anniversary at all—just an ordinary day. He even got the date wrong."

"Many relationships come with an expiration date," Sophia said evenly. "But you and Uncle have been married for decades. Forgetting once in a while is understandable."

Julia had always been domineering whenever she met them before. Being able to sit here now, calmly having a conversation, was rare in itself.

She looked at Sophia, who kept probing, then set down her knife and fork.

"If you have something to say, just say it," Julia said flatly. "There’s no need to dance around it. People don’t come here without a reason. Since you’re here, you must either want to tell me something—or find something out. Haven’t you always been straightforward?"

Sophia hadn’t expected to keep it hidden anyway. She was here for one reason—to expose Aiden.

"Auntie, actually, I know everything you’ve done in the past was for your son, Richard. From what I know, he’s been seeing Miss Taylor from the Taylor family lately. They’ve even registered their marriage—just haven’t held the wedding yet. To be honest, I’m a bit worried about him."

Julia frowned. "Worried?"
