The other duos advancing to the semi-finals with us were:
The Necrotic Touch user and the Shadow Manipulator – A fearsome team known as the Undead Kings, capable of rotting anything they touch and slipping through the battlefield like ghosts.
The Ice Wielder and the Wolf Beastkin – A pair with a flawless win streak, dominating every fight with overwhelming strength and the crowd's full support.
Because of their performance, the Ice Wielder and Wolf Beastkin were granted an automatic spot in the finals. That left just us the Duo Gods to face the Undead Kings in two days for the last spot.

After saying our goodbyes to David, Jason and I went straight home. There was no time to waste.
We rewatched videos of the Undead Kings' past fights, analyzing every move. The Necrotic Touch ability was dangerous, but manageable—as long as we avoided direct contact. But the real problem was the Shadow Manipulator.
Jason leaned forward, pausing the video. Look at this. He pointed at the screen, his expression sharp. He doesn't just move through shadows—he can dissolve into his own and reappear from the nearest one. That means if we're not careful, he could pop out from our own shadows.
I exhaled sharply. "Yeah... and that won't end well."
"They've fought against people who used light before," I muttered, pausing a clip where a challenger flooded the arena with brightness—only for the Manipulator to slip between bodies, weapons, and even the shadows beneath people's feet.
Jason smirked. Then we don't focus on stopping him from using shadows... we control where he has to come out.
I looked at him, intrigued. "Go on."
If we can manipulate the battlefield—force his movement, restrict his options—then he'll have no choice but to appear exactly where we want him. Jason pointed at the footage. Notice how he always attacks from the least expected angle? What if we create an environment where the only place he can emerge is right into a trap?
I grinned. "So instead of stopping his power, we bait him into a predictable attack."
Jason nodded. And while we deal with him, we can't forget about the Necrotic user. That guy only needs one touch to mess us up. We'll have to keep moving, keeping him just out of reach.
"Then we separate them," I decided. Force them into one-on-one fights where we each have the advantage. You take the Necrotic guy since you're faster, and I'll handle the Shadow Manipulator.
Jason smirked. Fine by me. Hope you can keep up.
I rolled my eyes. Just don't slow me down.
For the next two days, we refined our plan, going over every possible scenario. This wasn't just about winning—it was about proving that no trick, no ability, could keep us from reaching the top.
The Semi-Finals Begin
The stadium roared with excitement, the crowd on the edge of their seats. The announcer's voice boomed through the arena.
On one side, the terrifying necromantic duo THE UNDEAD KINGS! And on the other, the unstoppable force THE DUO GODS!
Jason cracked his knuckles. Time to put our plan to the test.
I smirked. Let's show them why we're heading to the finals.
"BEGIN!"
The battlefield became a blur of movement.
The Shadow Manipulator melted into the ground, vanishing into the darkness cast by the arena's towering walls. Meanwhile, the Necrotic Touch user charged forward, his fingertips pulsing with a sickly green glow.
Jason and I split.
Jason shot toward the Necrotic user, using quick bursts of speed to stay just out of reach, dodging every attempt to grab him. Meanwhile, I leaped backward, scanning the ground. My eyes darted between every shadow, knowing that at any moment—
There!
A ripple of darkness stretched beneath me—an instant warning before the Shadow Manipulator emerged, his blade slicing toward my back.
I twisted midair, barely avoiding the strike. The blade nicked my shoulder, but I ignored the sting. Instead of retreating, I did the opposite.
I attacked.
Planting my foot into the Manipulator's gut, I kicked him backward, forcing him out of his own shadow. He skidded across the arena, his eyes widening in shock.
Jason, meanwhile, was still dancing around the Necrotic user. Man, you really don't like personal space, huh? he taunted, dodging a swipe. The crowd laughed as Jason twisted behind him, slamming a kick into his ribs.
The Necrotic user growled, his hands flaring with deadly energy. I just need one touch, he snarled.
Jason smirked. Yeah? Too bad you'll never land it.
Then he pulled out his gun.
I refocused as the Shadow Manipulator recovered. His eyes narrowed, and suddenly, the shadows around him expanded—rising like living tendrils, stretching toward me.
Smart. He realized I wasn't letting him retreat into the darkness, so now he was bringing the darkness to me.
Too bad for him I was already prepared.
I reached down, drawing my twin daggers—weapons I had deliberately kept hidden to throw him off.
His eyes flickered with realization. A critical mistake.
I lunged forward, aiming straight for his neck. His protective shield flared as my attack struck, sending a ripple of pain through his body. Before he could recover, Jason fired a shot, the bullet slamming into his foot.
He collapsed, but then—
He vanished.
Shit.
"He doesn't need to be standing to enter the shadows!" I realized too late.
I backed away immediately, scanning the ground for any sign of movement. I tapped my earring, speaking to Jason through our private channel. "Watch your back. He might leave me and go for you instead."
Jason nodded, keeping his gun trained.
Then the Necrotic user snapped.
Furious at being ignored, he slammed his hand onto the floor.
The ground decayed instantly, black cracks spreading like a deadly disease. Jason barely managed to leap away in time, landing on stable footing.
Wasn't expecting that, he muttered, shaking off the moment of shock.
While me I tightened my grip on my daggers waiting for the shadow manipulator to attack.
