Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 5: Running through a forest
With large strides, Fengyu left the market.
Once outside, he hugged the purple mandarin duck in his arms tighter while using his hands to cast a spell – "Wind Control!"
The wind resistance became less and his movement became faster.
He rode with the wind for over an hour before finally stopping.
"Hey, we’re out now. Do you feel like this place is better?" he asked the duck.
"Quack. This is indeed better, a lot better. It’s not peaceful, but better than that place where peace has lost its meaning!"
"Then, where should I go? I can’t stay here. Only in the market is there a higher level and concentration of spiritual power. Everywhere else only allows me to recover my spiritual power, but I can’t cultivate effectively." He looked back at the market, feeling that cultivation was truly difficult.
Not to mention the need to sell and buy things to gather resources for cultivation...
"Quack! To the south, there is no peace! To the north, there is little peace! To the east, there is very, very little peace! Only... there is some peace in the west."
"The west? Are you sure?"
"Quack! Of course I’m sure!"
"But... based on the records I saw in the market, we’re at the western border of the Central Region!
Going any further west will make us directly enter the vicinity of the Myriad Beasts Endless Mountains!
Are you sure it’s a good place?"
"Quack! I don’t know about danger, I don’t know about beasts, I only know that there is a place in the mountains that has great peace!"
"This..." Fengyu thought about it. He felt that this was utter nonsense, but then again... there is a saying that the most dangerous place is the most peaceful. Maybe there is a place for him to stay?
"Alright, you lead the way then!" he put the duck down, allowing it to move on its own.
"Quack! Keep up! Quack!" it seemed to mock him with its quacking. With several large exaggerated moves of its wings, it finally took flight.
In just a short time, it moved rather quickly, heading in a line to the north-west.
They had just left the market north because the duck told him the northern exit was the most peaceful...
The duck was faster than Fengyu thought, moving quite fast.
With less weight to carry, he was also able to move faster.
Three hours passed before he was finally exhausted – the duck, too, was quite exhausted and flew back into his arms.
"This... it’s quite difficult. Do you think the road up to the west is peaceful?"
"No, no, it’s not peaceful at all! Quack! It feels like there is no peace at all, which is why I said there is only some peace in the west.
But I can see the peace and will definitely avoid places where there is no peace!" the duck reassured him while nuzzling in his arms.
Over the past month, it had become quite close.
Especially because this was the third owner, yet he kept it and took care of it. Even more, it could understand the human clearly and the human would understand it.
Such communication was a lot better than talking with stupid ducks.
So with the passage of time, it felt quite comfortable around the young man.
...
The duo continued for several days, running for four hours at a time before taking a short walk for an hour. This break, of course, was simply walking, not truly sitting down.
Only at night would they lay down a simple cloth on the ground before sleeping.
Initially, Fengyu felt that life was hard and that it was a lot worse than picnicking, but he soon found that the nature in the cultivation world was quite beautiful.
In the open, he could see the stars clearly, and his cultivation, unlike what he thought, actually advanced slowly!
"Quack! This place is not peaceful! We have to leave quickly!" the duck suddenly spoke out when it was just about to settle down for the night.
Moments ago it was peaceful, but it quickly changed!
Fengyu had become used to it and simply took the cloth, wrapping it around his body while he ran away.
"Three steps to the north, then five to the north-west, fifty to the west and another three hundred to the north-west!" the duck quickly told him the path to peace.
After several days, it had become more adept at its ability and could clearly discern the path to leave a place of un-peacefulness.
Fengyu trusted it and quickly moved several hundred steps.
Finally, the duck told him to continue west for half an hour before they would find a place to rest.
Behind him, he saw a fire grow all of a sudden!
"Not peaceful! Quack! Not peaceful! Leave quickly!" the duck tried to push him with its wings while glancing back.
"Who is causing such trouble right when the night broke out?" while running away, Fengyu was quite curious which idiot did this.
They hadn’t yet reached the beast mountains as he expected, but they had entered a forest-like environment after just a few days of leaving the market.
At first, the trees were quite sparse and the ground quite flat.
Now, there were more trees and sometimes there was a hill.
He could imagine that with the gradual entrance into the forest, he would formally enter the beast mountains and hopefully find the peaceful place.
In such an environment so close to the beast mountains, who would be so stupid as to cause a fire?
He heard some sounds far away, but they only made him run faster!
"Quack! Alright, here, stay here! If we go any further, we’ll be out of peace again!" the duck told him to stop after twenty minutes of running.
Circumstances changed quickly. Now he was really curious how close the danger was in the market for the duck to tell him to leave...
Or rather – while beasts and similar dangers in the forest would attack directly, in human places, the danger might lurk hidden.
Only someone with an ability like his duck could feel the danger of such a hidden presence!
Fortunately, he had this duck!
