Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack-Chapter 1270 - 1250: Caught Red-Handed
"Is your medicine guaranteed to be alright?" Qhianqhian returned to the adjacent courtyard, looking natural as she sat down, leisurely fanning herself.
Yan rolled his eyes at her, "If you hadn’t taken the antidote early, do you think you’d still be here talking to me? You’d have long been..."
"Don’t jinx me!!!" Qhianqhian was infuriated, reflexively sniffing her own scent, but smelling nothing, she directly threw out two water orbs to clean herself up.
A medicine that can spread along sound waves made Yan seem all the more dangerous in Qhianqhian’s mind. For such things to even exist, this world was more complicated than she had imagined.
Fortunately, she had taken the antidote.
This drug that spreads inner desires—even Qhianqhian did not dare guarantee she had no desires. The consequences of getting infected were truly unimaginable.
Combined with a tune that tempts the heart, its effect was naturally extraordinary.
But the Crown Prince’s desires were already evident, swayed by lust.
Thankfully, the General’s Mansion had people trained specifically for such situations; otherwise, it would indeed have been quite tricky for a while.
At midnight, a gust of ’sinister wind’ blew out the Everbright Lamp in the Memorial Hall, also bringing gusts of howling wind, causing those in the hall to turn their gaze, filled with anxiety and not knowing what to do.
They trembled, looking outside the Memorial Hall at the source of the wind, faintly seeing a white shadow flashing by, immediately shrieking miserably, fearing they had bumped into evil.
At that moment, flames ignited in the front room, and the entire General’s Mansion was thrown into panic, those frightened in their fear, and anxious in their haste, successfully attracting ’reinforcements.’
Haan Mo’s subordinates also joined the firefighting efforts at the General’s Mansion, and under their eerie lead, they reached the Memorial Hall, where as direct offspring, it was not permissible to leave the hall, so Haan Mo had no choice but to come and see them.
"Where is the Crown Prince, Imperial Brother?" Looking at the group inside the Memorial Hall kneeling in a flustered kowtow, even the Hua siblings were flustered, Haan Mo slightly frowned. In fact, he had just received a note, suggesting he make an appearance at midnight to lend a little help, with a chance to overthrow the Crown Prince.
A few words stirred his heart. Though he didn’t know who sent it, the few words were enough to move him.
Not to miss any opportunity!
That night, when he was leaving a friend’s residence after drinking, he just happened to spot the blaze shooting up from the General’s Mansion.
Feeling stirred, he promptly directed his men to lend a hand. To avoid drawing attention, yet wanting to help, he brought twenty guards, opting to ride a sedan chair to remain inconspicuous.
Seeing the ’signal’ now, he abandoned the sedan chair and chose to walk, proceeding to the entrance of the General’s Mansion. Observing the chaotic scene, he hurriedly commanded his guards to join the firefighting efforts, though somewhat clumsy.
What caught fire was just an oil lamp, igniting the curtain, but as it happened in a less populated area, it wasn’t discovered in time. When the fire grew larger, it was noticed, and as more people joined the firefighting, the situation quickly came under control.
Haan Mo took the opportunity to visit the Memorial Hall for a tribute, despite having been there during the day.
The City Guard Army’s summons also led to nearby government offices dispatching personnel to assist.
Knowing the Crown Prince was at the General’s Mansion, everyone keen to curry favor was even more eager to take the opportunity to make their loyalty known, causing the officials to flock to the General’s Mansion upon receiving the news.
But soon they saw the Memorial Hall flickering between light and dark, making everyone’s hearts skip a beat.
Not seeing His Highness in the Memorial Hall, they all considered leaving.
Some unwilling ones made snide remarks, claiming the General’s Mansion had lost its sophistication since the Old General’s death.
After a moment’s silence, Hua Sicheng said, "Tian Xin, lead the officials and Thirteenth Prince to His Highness’s courtyard." As if forced.
Tian Xin, as Hua Sicheng’s personal servant, naturally knew the situation but obediently complied, lowering his head and leading the group towards the back courtyard.
They soon reached the courtyard where the Crown Prince was residing. Tian Xin continued without stopping, but everyone heard the sultry moans, leaving them momentarily stunned.
To conduct such acts before the mourning period ends, with all three Hua siblings in the Memorial Hall, it raised questions about who was inside.
Haan Mo frowned slightly, looking at Tian Xin, "Who resides here? Are they unaware of the mourning in the house prohibiting such scandalous conduct?"
He wasn’t oblivious; from the low growls, he could guess who it was inside, having interacted frequently with the person, how could he not be aware?
"It’s Miss Xinger." Tian Xin hesitated, seeming to notice the sounds inside, looking panicked, "Miss Xinger is betrothed to the Senior General by Master."
"What? Who dares to defile the Junior General’s betrothed?" Haan Mo slightly furrowed his brow, and directly pushed open the door, seemingly oblivious to the sound, listening as the voices inside grew more intense.
Haan Mo kicked open the door, "Audacious!" With a group in tow entering the inner chamber, where in the dim candlelight they saw the Crown Prince’s displeased expression and Chun Xing half-hidden behind the bed curtains.
Chun Xing let out a startled cry, allowing the visitors to clearly identify her voice as she hurriedly concealed herself under the Crown Prince.
"Imperial Brother?" Haan Mo exclaimed in surprise, staring at the Crown Prince’s bare white leg. For a moment, he was at a loss, but hurriedly gestured at those behind him, "Everyone out, stay in the courtyard, do not leave!" His voice was full of urgency.
They hurriedly exited the room, those intent on pleasing the Crown Prince were full of regret, wishing they had not come since after such a scandal, the Crown Prince was not one to let it go.
"What are you here for?" The Crown Prince slightly frowned, pulling down the other half of the bed curtain, his voice tinged with anger, yet amidst Haan Mo’s music, muted sounds of suppressed voices could still be heard, evidently indicating he wasn’t planning to restrain himself, continuing unfinished business.
"Imperial Brother, Crown Prince, there was a fire in the side hall of the General’s Mansion. By chance, while passing by, I came with the officials to help extinguish it. The fire is controlled now, I’m here to report that all’s well, and will leave. I’ll ensure the officials keep tonight’s matter to themselves." Haan Mo’s tone carried no hint of surprise, surprisingly calm.
"If I hear anything about tonight, you know the consequences." The Crown Prince’s voice carried cold indifference but he remained on the bed.
"Understood." Haan Mo exited and shut the door, out in the moonlight sternly addressing the officials, "If a word of tonight’s events leaks, everyone here, inclusive of family, will face deserved punishment!"
The words were threatening yet his expression towards the officials was apologetic as if forced.
With his warning, a few officials frowned but nodded, "As His Highness said, it’s late, we should return to rest at the mansion."
