Rebirth: After Becoming the Villainess-Chapter 64: It Seems the Second Miss Dislikes Me
Song Lianhe was incredibly smug.
Little did she know, that promise to stay by her side would truly cost Ah Yu his entire life...
Song Lianhe immediately beamed. "My apologies, Mr. Su. I’d be willing to part with him, but Ah Yu insists on staying with me. What can I do?"
Ah Yu played along, nodding. "I thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Su, but I must repay the Young Miss for her kindness. I hope you can understand."
Su Huaqing smiled magnanimously. "So be it. A gentleman does not take what another holds dear."
He then turned to Song Lianhe. "But do you have something against me, Second Young Miss? You used to call me ’Young Master,’ but now it’s nothing but ’Mr. Su.’ It’s not as familiar as how you are with Rongbai. It sounds so terribly distant."
Song Lianhe offered a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. ’I can’t just come right out and say I simply hate you, can I?’
Even though the Su Huaqing of today hadn’t done anything to her, she firmly believed that if Zhou Junlin gave the order, he would still become that same cold-blooded Su Huaqing.
While it was true that Yan Wen had taken revenge on her many times to protect the story’s heroine, he would never be capable of something as monstrously cruel as cutting open a woman’s belly to rip out her unborn child!
By comparison, Yan Wen almost seemed endearing.
A faint smile touched Song Lianhe’s eyes as she replied in an unhurried tone, "You’ve misunderstood, Mr. Su. Young Master Yan and I do business together, so we are partners. Naturally, there’s no need to worry about appearances. But you, Mr. Su, are different. You’re a court official and a good friend of Young Master Yan. I’m simply worried that if anything were to go wrong, it might implicate you, you see."
With those words, she drew a clear line between them.
Su Huaqing raised an eyebrow, watching her with a wry smile. He nodded. "I understand. It seems the Second Young Miss truly dislikes me."
Song Lianhe smiled. "Would you like more tea, Mr. Su?"
Acting as if she hadn’t heard him, she turned, called for Shuang Ye, and disappeared into the back room.
Su Huaqing was left speechless.
Yan Wen, who was standing nearby, was also puzzled. After his recent interactions with Song Lianhe, his impression of her had certainly improved. She wasn’t at all the terrible person the rumors made her out to be. On the contrary, she had an easygoing and approachable personality. From a scholar of humble origins like himself to an attendant like Ah Yu, she treated everyone as an equal.
The one exception, it seemed, was Su Huaqing.
She always treated him with a deliberate distance. Just as he’d said, she truly disliked him.
But why?
"...Rongbai, what’s with that look?"
Su Huaqing finally couldn’t take it anymore. He turned to his friend with a smile plastered on his face.
Yan Wen had been frowning at him for a while. Su Huaqing said plaintively, "I can understand other people, but you’re going to suspect me too? I swear, I’ve only met her twice, and you were present both times! When could I possibly have had a chance to offend her?"
He was being utterly wronged!
It was the first time a young woman had ever rejected him so thoroughly. For someone like him, who’d been a natural with the ladies since childhood, it was a truly galling experience.
Yan Wen remained noncommittal. He was just as baffled.
Looking at Su Huaqing, the only explanation he could come up with was that his friend simply had a face that Song Lianhe couldn’t stand.
Yan Wen shook his head, helpless. ’What a tricky situation.’
Just then, an argument broke out at the shop’s entrance. The shouting was quite loud, and it quickly escalated into a fight.
Hearing the commotion, Yan Wen and Su Huaqing both went to the doorway.
A small crowd of onlookers had gathered. Some were cheering on the fight, while others offered a few half-hearted words of dissuasion.
Ah Yu was only concerned about whether the two would end up smashing the new sign that had just been put up outside.
As Su Huaqing and Yan Wen were quietly talking, a tall woman suddenly dropped down from somewhere above. She landed as lightly as a gust of wind and was instantly on her feet. Her long hair was tied up high, and she held a longsword. Without even glancing at the two men, she strode straight into the shop.
Xuan Mei headed straight for the back room, flinging aside the curtain to scan her surroundings warily.
Song Lianhe wasn’t there.
Her expression changed. She rushed in and found Shuang Ye in the corner, knocked unconscious.
She immediately took out a medicine vial, pulled out the stopper, and held it under Shuang Ye’s nose. Shuang Ye woke up within a breath.
Xuan Mei asked urgently, "Where is the Second Young Miss?"
"The Second Young Miss..." Shuang Ye jolted to her senses and cried out, "The Second Young Miss was just abducted! They went out through the window!"
She pointed at the window. Xuan Mei rushed over and threw it open. It led to a small, empty alley. There was no trace of them left...
