Rebirth: After Becoming the Villainess-Chapter 83: Your Sister and You, Both Wives
The Medical Clinic closed for the day, and Song Lianhe returned to the General Mansion.
She had spent the last three days leaving early and returning late. No one in the mansion paid her any mind, and she was happy for the peace.
But just as she returned to Xubai Small Building, Zhang Xi arrived with a message.
"Why would my father be looking for me?"
She changed her clothes and came out.
Shuang Ye glanced at Zhang Xi. "Brother Xizi, is there something you can’t tell me?"
So, Zhang Xi answered properly, "Prince Ling visited the mansion earlier and spoke with the General in the study for a long while. After His Highness left, the General has been in a rather foul mood." He paused, then added, "It would be best for the Second Miss to watch what she says later."
Song Lianhe understood. She had Shuang Ye fetch a jar of dark ointment and gave it to Zhang Xi.
"I heard from Shuang Ye a few days ago that your father sprained his back. Take this back and use it as a hot compress."
Seeing the words "Medical Clinic" on the jar, Zhang Xi exclaimed in surprise, "This is medicine from the Medical Clinic? Oh! Thank you, Second Miss! Thank you! Thank you!"
In just three days, the Medical Clinic had made a name for itself in Ling’an City. Who didn’t know that its medicine was the most effective? Zhang Xi had been frantic when he heard about the free consultations, but he couldn’t get away from his duties to take his father.
’He never imagined the Second Miss would have the medicine right here!’
Song Lianhe followed Zhang Xi to Song Xingfeng’s study. When she entered, she saw Song Xingfeng with a grim expression on his face, while Song Xilan knelt on the floor, looking much calmer and more composed than she had a few days prior.
Seeing Song Lianhe, Song Xingfeng dismissed the servants in the room. He spoke after a moment of deliberation, "About you and Prince Ling... you needn’t worry. The position of Princess Consort is still yours."
Song Lianhe raised an eyebrow. She knew there was a "but" coming, so she simply waited without speaking.
"However... when the time comes, your older sister will be marrying him along with you."
As Song Xingfeng spoke, he averted his gaze.
Song Xilan remained kneeling, her expression still calm and composed.
Song Lianhe glanced at her and suddenly laughed. "And you’re willing to go along with this?"
’To marry the man you love... alongside another woman.’
’Based on the original female lead’s personality, she would have sooner avoided the male lead and kept her distance than compromise in the slightest. That’s why he was so eager to call off the engagement.’
’From start to finish, the male lead always respected the heroine. Even though he truly needed the influence that came with Song Lianhe, he never betrayed the heroine or let her suffer the slightest injustice!’
Song Xilan raised her head and looked at her calmly. "I simply want to marry the man my heart desires."
"Even if it means being a concubine?"
At this, Song Xingfeng gave a slight cough and said awkwardly, "Prince Ling is a dragon among men; how could he ever take just one wife? He’s bound to have many wives and concubines in the future. This way, you two sisters can look after each other. Therefore, I have already discussed it with Prince Ling. Your sister... both you and your sister will be his wives."
After speaking, he glanced at Song Xilan. "Lan’er, get up."
Song Xilan silently rose to her feet and stood off to the side, her head bowed.
Song Xingfeng turned his head away, clasping his hands behind his back. The sight of his back conveyed a deep sense of helplessness.
Song Lianhe froze. ’She never, ever would have thought Song Xingfeng’s favoritism could reach such an extent!’
"Sister, I know you are unhappy, but I’m truly not trying to steal Prince Ling from you! I told him I was willing to be a concubine, but he... he refused. I didn’t even know he came to speak with Father about this!"
Song Lianhe’s eyes snapped up, her gaze glacial.
One might have expected her to cause a scene, but instead, she only glanced at Song Xilan before turning her sights on Song Xingfeng.
"Father, you are taking the advantageous marriage my maternal grandparents secured for me and using it to satisfy your other daughter."
Song Xingfeng stiffened, then spun around and frowned. "What nonsense are you spouting! Marrying Lan’er was Prince Ling’s idea. I objected, but his mind was set. What could I do? Defy the Prince?"
"Yes, Sister, it’s all my fault. If you must blame someone, then blame me. Don’t blame Father..."
"Just shut up!"
Song Lianhe’s tone was dripping with disgust; she couldn’t be bothered to waste another word on her.
’Though she wasn’t the real Song Lianhe, she could feel this body’s pain.’
’What truly broke her heart wasn’t Zhou Junlin or Song Xilan. It was the fact that the one person in the world who should have been her closest kin would never, ever be on her side.’
