Chapter 31: Golden Hunter.

"Here, place your hand on it."

A man dressed in a white robe said as he placed a black open book on the table.

The book in question had a weird glow, making it difficult to read what was written in it.

Unlike the Reader equipment used at the public guilds, this was more advanced and was said to be an artifact from the gods themselves.

Richard was still seated in his chair, waiting to see what would happen if Adonis were to place his hand on it.

In truth, many had come to him in the name of being a Hunter, only to end up not being what they claimed.

After numerous times, he became quite numb to it and tended not to abruptly believe when people made such claims.

But seeing as Evans was the one to bring this individual, a part of him was curious to see what would happen.

’Just to place my hand here, right? Simple enough, I guess.’

Adonis didn’t think too much about it. After all, this was his main reason for ever joining the raid in the first place.

With care, he hovered his hand over the book before placing it on the pages.

According to what he was told before the strange man showed up with the book, if he was truly a Hunter, with an authority/divine blessing from the goddess, his name would be written in the very book as one of the Hunters.

And just as he was told, Adonis found his name automatically showing up on an empty page after a golden light almost enveloped the room.

Seeing this, he couldn’t help but smile.

"It showed on the page! That means I am a Hunter, right?!"

At first, he noticed how shocked the man in front of him was, as if he had just seen a ghost.

And then, Richard, who seemed like he was about to leap out of his chair. Evans, on the other hand, died while seated.

’What’s up with them? They’re acting like I did something outlandish or....’

Adonis’s eyes widened when the man suddenly placed his hand on his shoulder, a crazy look in his eyes that he definitely wasn’t trying to hide.

"Y...you are a Golden-rank Hunter!" the man yelled, his saliva dripping from his mouth.

Golden-rank Hunters—people who were said to be far superior to S-rank Hunters, having powers that could sometimes place them on the level of gods.

In the entire kingdom, only a single person had been said to obtain this rank, that and...

"Incredible!" Richard jerked up from his seat. "We are the only kingdom to have two Golden-rank Hunters! This is incredible!!!"

Evans was still dead, his entire face completely devoid of color.

"Quickly! Check his authority!" Richard yelled.

"R-right!"

The man suddenly turned his attention to the magic book, his eyes glowing as he tried to read the writings.

Gasp!

He stepped back frantically, his hand covering his mouth. "No way."

At this point, even Adonis was curious as to what it was that the man saw.

It was one thing to find out he was a Golden Hunter; it was a completely different thing to get such a reaction just from checking an authority.

Both Adonis and Richard pulled closer to the book, despite not being able to read it.

"What is it?! What did it say?!" they both uttered in unison.

Trying to calm himself, the man replied, "This young man... this young man has all the authorities."

"Eh?" Adonis moved back.

Richard was shocked, barely blinking.

"All the authorities?"

"I wouldn’t joke about such a thing, Director. When I look upon the book for a Hunter’s authorities, I usually get a single one. But right now, as I look upon the book, all I can see is, ’All authorities’."

Haha!

Richard chuckled weirdly as he fell back into his chair, hands resting on the sides of his head.

"I have been in this business for nearly thirty years, and this is the first time... I have ever felt so overwhelmed from looking at a person’s stats."

Adonis remained standing, his eyes still fixed on the pages.

’All authorities? Does that mean I can use any of them as I want? If that’s the case, how come the system never informed me of this? Adding to the fact that I don’t think anyone in the novel had this power is quite concerning. This might complicate things a bit...’

Adonis took a quick glance at Evans.

’I can’t tell if they’ll be tempted to take me to the higher-ups. If that happens, I’ll most definitely be used for their kingdom’s propaganda. If push comes to shove, I don’t think I’ll have a choice.’

Just then, Evans spoke...

"You’re truly impressive, Adonis. Having such an incredible ability is not something many people can have. I’m glad I was the first to see you during your evaluation. If it was any other person, you’d be headed straight to the king."

Adonis kept quiet, waiting to see what was going to happen next.

"I’m still trying to understand what is happening, so you might have to give me a second." Richard took a deep breath. "Yeah, you’re right. Since he doesn’t exactly have a Hunter guild he is currently in, the kingdom will take advantage of that and make him a royal knight or grant him the title of hero like they did to the first Golden Hunter."

"And if that happens, we both know how that turned out for the last guy," Evans said.

"Unless Mr. Adonis is willing to join a Hunter’s guild, then I can protect him from outside influence. If not, it might be difficult to help him."

They suddenly both looked at Adonis.

Evans viewed this as a good idea to have Adonis join his Hunter’s guild, while Richard didn’t care, as long as Adonis was under his organization.

"So all I have to do is join any Hunter’s guild?" Adonis asked for clarification.

"That is correct," Richard replied.

"Okay then." Adonis stood upright. "I’d like to form my own Hunter’s guild."

Richard’s initial surprise turned into a smile—a smile a father would give his child when he felt proud.

"You want to have your own Hunter’s guild?" he asked back.

"Yes. Is that a problem?"

"Not particularly. For you to have an official guild, you need at least four members—meaning you and three others. Do you have members that can fill up this gap?"

Normally, if it were a normal guild, Adonis would need to have at least 50,000 eres and two parties under him to be able to open his own guild.

But since he was a Hunter, the requirements didn’t fall the same under him.

Filo, Veronica, and the girl he promised to meet—and totally forgot about—Alice.

"Yes, I do," Adonis replied.

Silence enveloped the room for a while.

Sigh! "Alright then, congratulations on being a Hunter. I hope you’ll use your powers to help those in need in this kingdom. I’ll have your license and everything you need ready before tomorrow. You may come back with your members tomorrow for a guild inspection." Richard stood up from the chair, his hand out for a handshake.

Adonis shook it.

"It’s a pleasure."

Meanwhile, Evans was back to being dead in the chair, realizing he never had a chance to ever make Adonis join his Hunter’s guild.

.....

Later that day, Adonis never headed back to Evans’ mansion. Instead, he made his way to the Sacred Ground Forest.

Dressed in his usual outfit, he made his way toward the same spot he met Alice, trying to see if he could by any chance find her there as he did the last time.

And to his surprise, he did.

Alice, the beautiful B-ranked sword master, was walking out of the river, her entire body and clothes dripping, when she noticed Adonis sitting on the ground, looking at her.

She paused, taking a second to read the situation.

Though her body was so wet that her nipples were exposed to the naked eye, she didn’t seem the least bit bothered by that.

"You’re late," she uttered as she walked.

"Yeah, you’re right. I had to take care of a few things..."

Adonis held her hand before she could walk past him.

"Are you pissed?" he asked.

"Why would I be pissed that a man I don’t even know broke a deal we made? Don’t be so full of yourself," Alice replied.

Adonis smiled. She definitely didn’t hate him.

Considering they’d only met once, it was a huge opportunity for him.

Adonis stood up, still holding her hand as he pulled closer.

"Such an intense stare. Do you remember what you owe me?" Adonis asked.

Alice sneered for a bit.

"So you do. Not that you have any choice anyway. Your sickness is getting worse," Adonis uttered as he grabbed her shirt and raised it up without any warning.
