Adonis waited quite a while for Alice.

It seemed like she was trying to convince the cursed children to trust him. Well, they were occasionally throwing glances at him, so it wasn’t too far off to think that.

Even if the cursed children refused to be helped, Adonis didn’t intend on giving up on them.

Worst case scenario, he would absorb all their mana and never show his face again. Failing like the original MC did was not on his to-do list.

Finally, he could see Alice walking towards him, a cursed child tailing behind her.

"Hmm..."

Adonis played it off, the feeling of his heart almost tearing apart from the raw mana flowing into him, the sudden way his blood was boiling; he hid everything.

Any sign of weakness on his part would definitely make Alice rethink her decision.

Thankfully, he was passing it towards the three dark soldiers hiding in the forest.

When Alice arrived, she stood to the side and looked at the girl.

"Go on, introduce yourself to him."

The cursed child in question was a young girl with long pink hair and a horn on her forehead. For a child living in the forest, she was surprisingly clean.

"Uhm. M..my name..." The girl glanced at Alice, as if using her as a means of determination, "My n..ame is B..beako!" Her eyes closed shut as both her fists were clenched.

Adonis smiled, "My name is Adonis. You have such a beautiful name, young miss."

Just as Beako looked up at Adonis, she noticed blood was gradually flowing down from his nose.

"A..ah! Y... you’re bleeding s..ir," she pointed out.

The fact Adonis was still acting normal didn’t make it any better.

"I knew it! You can’t handle this much mana!" Alice yelled, grabbing the girl by the hand, "I’ll take her away, you should he-"

Adonis, in turn, grabbed Alice, holding her back. His eyes slowly fixed on Beako.

One of his soldiers had begun to crack from the raw mana flowing into it. Though they were made entirely of mana, they still could not handle the mana flowing from the cursed children.

Not that Adonis cared.

Now kneeling in front of the girl, he stretched his second hand out, positioning a single finger on her forehead.

"Be a good girl and close your eyes, okay? This might feel a bit intense, but if you close your eyes, it will be over before you know it."

Beako heard him loud and clear.

She looked at Alice, seeking permission before she proceeded.

And while Alice was still unsure as to what she should do, she finally gave in with a slight nod of her head.

Beako closed her eyes.

[The skill Mana Absorption has been activated.]

Almost instantly, the two soldiers Adonis summoned in the woods fell to the ground, unable to move their bodies.

[A Dark Soldier has leveled up.]

’Tsk! I don’t know if I should be impressed or worried. A single child has this much mana?’ Adonis thought to himself.

His dark mist swallowed the endless flow of mana from Beako while her eyes were closed.

Adonis had no choice; behind him, four more dark soldiers appeared, the mana now flowing into them.

The children watching from afar were both curious and surprised as to what they were witnessing.

Suddenly -

[You have successfully cured a cursed child.]

[Your soldiers have leveled up in folds.]

Adonis slowly moved his finger from the girl’s head, blood still dripping from his nose as he uttered,

"You can open your eyes."

Beako did as she was asked, her eyelids slowly opening.

In that moment, Alice covered her mouth, clearly surprised and happy at the same time.

The menacing mana that once confined the girl was gone; her glowing eyes were completely tame now.

"Beako..." Words escaped her mouth, almost as if she was standing in the middle of screaming in happiness or bawling her eyes out.

Even Beako, in question, could not help but touch her skin to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.

Her heart was beating normally, her body felt lighter, and even more, she could see the world for what it was and not just for the mana flowing in it.

"You’re healed now. You should take her away from here though, so she doesn’t get affected by the others," Adonis uttered.

"Hmm..." Alice nodded, grabbing Beako’s hand and leading her out of there.

As they were going, Adonis looked at the other cursed children watching from afar.

’How many can I heal before I run out of energy? If my soldiers collapsed from mana overload, I can simply respawn them, but that takes a lot of mental strain to continuously do that,’ he grinned, ’Screw it, I’ll think about all that once I’m done here.’

A few minutes later, Alice was back, bringing in a new cursed child.

And just like Adonis did with Beako, he healed her, using his soldiers as a mana container in order not to die in the process.

He kept this up for a long time, until he had healed over 10 cursed children in a day.

At this point, the damage was already showing on Adonis’s body.

His eyes had gone pale, his limbs had dark streaks tattooed on them. Even his sight had begun to get blurry.

Though this had already happened to him on the sixth cursed child, he had to use his healing abilities to get himself back up. Of course, it didn’t last for long as each cursed child that showed up was stronger than the last.

’Just one more... just one more left.’

The cursed child, named Terra, was standing in front of him, her eyes calm and skin dark. She had long cat ears and a tail.

Unlike the rest of the cursed children Adonis had healed up until this point, she, by far, had the most unfiltered mana flow. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Adonis stared at her for a while, his eyes already going dark, as if he was going to pass out.

"Adonis! Are you alright? Say something!" Alice yelled, yanking him back and forth.

Opening his eyes, he replied, "Yeah... of course."

"No, you’re not; you can barely even sit upright. It’s fine, you’ve done enough today, we can just continue tomorrow." Alice was genuinely worried, not something she knew how to do very often.

"I am not weak."

"This isn’t about that; you have done more than enough. This isn’t something anyone could ever do. Don’t take on too much more than you can-"

"Say... You look worried. Have you fallen for me by any chance?"

"Ugnnnnnh?!" Alice blushed, "Don’t say such rubbish! It’s not going to work on me. Come on, I am taking you back to the city!"

"Mr."

Both Adonis and Alice turned their attention to Terra.

"Terra knows how much stronger she is than the rest. She has always known she was more dangerous. Miss Alice told her that." Her voice was soft yet filled with maturity, "Terra doesn’t want you to hurt yourself for her sake; she doesn’t have the means to repay your kindness. Healing her sister is enough; she is grateful."

"Terra..." Alice blurted out.

For a second there, Adonis was sure he saw someone else in Terra.

Someone he knew from his former world, someone he was close to.

A friend, one who always took care of everyone and neglected themselves of the same treatment.

"I’m fine now."

Adonis said to Alice, as he sat back up, eyes fixed on Terra.

"Listen here..."

Tap!

He used his finger to gently smack Terra on the forehead, to which she responded by placing her hand over it.

"If you want to repay me for saving you, then who says you can’t?"

"Terra can?"

"Sure. I’ll always be here to heal you when you are ill, just like you are now. In return, you’ll live however you want to and not worry about anyone else. If you can do that, then I’ll take it as my repayment."

"Anything Terra wants?"

"Anything you want."

"Even if it means serving you?"

That statement caught both Adonis and Alice off guard.

"W-what are you saying, T-Terra?"

"Terra remembers you said you wanted to serve a man that helped you. She feels she can do the same since this man also saves her."

Adonis immediately wore a smug look on his face, turning to face Alice.

"Ohhhh? So you did want to join my party after all, you tsundere."

"I did not! Not ever! Shut up!" Alice yelled.

Adonis took a second to laugh before he faced Terra.

"Sure, if you want to serve me, I don’t object. Just know, I am quite the king."

Terra smiled, "She knows."

"Alright then, let’s get that mana out of you."

Adonis placed a finger on her head.

If he was going to absorb the mana from Terra, he needed to summon his strongest soldiers.

"Come forth, Darth."
