Chapter 70 -70 How am I going to return the coat to you?
“Are you cold?” The caring question came from beside her.
Song Baiyan had already ended the call.
Tang Li had noticed early on that both Song Baiyan and Ji Ming were wearing long-sleeved shirts, only slightly rolled up at the cuffs, which was why the air conditioning in the car was turned on, keeping the temperature slightly chilly for her, but probably just right for them.
However, upon hearing Song Baiyan’s gentle voice, Tang Li found herself nodding as if possessed.
Then, Song Baiyan took a coat from beside him and handed it to her.
Tang Li put on the coat.
The man’s suit enveloped her whole body, making her appear even more petite. The sleeves were too long, almost obscuring her hands. As she put on the coat, Tang Li could smell a faint scent of tobacco and Song Baiyan’s own scent.
Because of the clothing, some strands of her hair stuck to her lips.
Tang Li couldn’t help but raise her hand to smooth her hair.
The suit’s cuffs slid down, revealing the girl’s slender, fair fingers.

She brushed the strands of hair back behind her ears.
Tang Li didn’t have her hair tied up; the lustrous black hair cascaded down her neck, hooking over her left ear, her skin pale and delicate. Outside the car window, passing lights flickered, highlighting her profile and the fine hairs at the nape of her neck, symbols of youth, revealing a playful charm.
Song Baiyan’s deep gaze lingered on the girl’s neck for a few seconds before shifting away.
Ji Ming was familiar with the route to the Art College.
As they drove past Qishan Cafeteria, Tang Li took the initiative to speak, “You can stop here.”
As the car’s engine turned off, it neatly parked right in front of the dormitory gate.
Just as Tang Li was about to say goodbye, Song Baiyan rolled down the window, looked at the abandoned security booth at the entrance, and asked her, “Is there no security on duty near the girls’ dormitory?”
“There is at Pu Garden dormitory,” Tang Li explained. “This area has old dormitories. The school has rented out several buildings to cafeteria workers for lodging, so there are fewer people around here at night. Over time, the booth has been left unused.”
Song Baiyan remembered Tang Li mentioning at the gym yesterday that she had just moved dormitories, “Is it just you living here now?”
“…And one roommate.”
Tang Li paused, “But she moved here on her own.”
Before she could finish speaking, her cellphone rang.
Wu Xuehan was worried because it was nearly 9 pm and Tang Li hadn’t returned, so she called.
“I’m just outside the cafeteria,” Tang Li responded softly, “I’ll be back soon.”
After finishing the call, she didn’t linger.
She thanked him and pushed open the car door to get out.
After walking about ten meters away, she inexplicably stopped.
This time, when she turned back, she noticed that the Lexus was still parked in its original place.
A yellow leaf drifted down from the locust tree above her.
In that moment, Tang Li felt as if she could hear the sound of the dry leaf hitting the ground.
She noticed the suit on her body and walked back.
As she approached, the window that had been rolled up slowly came down again. Instead of taking off the coat to return it, she looked at Song Baiyan, who was casting his eyes out, and asked, “How should I return the jacket to you another day?”
She spoke in a casual tone.
As if unintentionally, yet it seemed intentional.
Song Baiyan quietly looked back at her, his gaze quickening Tang Li’s heartbeat, yet she didn’t turn her eyes away but remained calm, patiently waiting for his reply. After a while, Song Baiyan finally spoke, “Next time Ji Ming comes to the school, you can give it to him then.”
It was a disappointing answer.
Tang Li couldn’t quite understand why she felt let down.
That sense of disappointment lingered even as she stepped into her dorm.
