Chapter 35 -35 Delicious Chicken Soup

As soon as the morning chores were done, it was time to start preparing lunch.

Lunch today was Chicken Soup. Making chicken soup didn’t take that long; after she got the stove going, she roasted a few ears of corn before heading into the kitchen to get to work.

The chicken used was processed in the Spatial Mall, along with the organs, leaving no impurities, and the size was just right. After starting the stove, she took out the specially reserved pottery pot for stewing soup. The chicken soup cooked in the pottery pot tasted even better.

She prepared three chickens, just enough for four people to each have half, and had Tianyu take another one back for his aunt and uncle to try.

She stuffed the chicken belly with soaked glutinous rice, red dates, lotus seeds, and whole garlic cloves. She also added the ginseng she found at the bottom layer of the small thatched hut… The roots were only a couple, and even those she feared might be too nourishing, considering the massive size of the ginseng. Too much of it, and the body wouldn’t be able to handle it. After that, she just sewed up the belly, and the preparation was complete.

Actually, if it were just glutinous rice and ginseng chicken soup, that would’ve been the end. But Mengzhen also wanted some radish and Chicken Soup Powder. She thought about it and decided that homemade didn’t need to be as elaborate as restaurant-made; whatever she felt like adding was fine so she had the radish cut and the powder soaked in advance.

After putting the three chickens into the pottery pot with the right amount of prepared Spiritual Spring Water, she waited for the soup to boil before adding the radish. Almost done, she then added the Chicken Soup Powder for the final simmer.

As soon as she opened the lid to add the Chicken Soup Powder, an enticing fragrance wafted out, tempting the Fan siblings to stand guard by the stove, unwilling to budge. They appeared to be so enticed it was almost comical.

When the Chicken Soup Powder was nearly ready, Mengzhen scooped up an entire chicken, added some broth and radish into a large covered jar, and handed it to Tianyu.

Tianyu knew what he was supposed to do with the soup, but with the temptation of food right in front of him, he was reluctant to leave.

“I promise we won’t eat without you if you don’t come back,” Mengzhen assured him.

After an inner struggle between his heart and his appetite, Tianyu finally agreed.

The soup was aromatic as he walked with it in hand, and even though it was covered, he was drooling with desire.

He hastened his pace and brought the bowl of soup to his house, “Dad, Mom, hurry and open the door.”

Tianyu, with the soup in hand, knocked on the door with such urgency that he used his foot, loud and impatient.

Just as Yinan had finished cooking and was bringing out the dishes, the knocking startled her. She hurried to the door, asking before it was even open, “What’s the matter? Is something wrong?”

“No, no, Zhenzhen made some Chicken Soup that’s really delicious. I brought a chicken over for you to try. Quick, take it. I have to go back for lunch. I’m off!” Tianyu said.

Without looking back, Tianyu hurried away, leaving his parents in a state of confusion.

Especially Yinan, holding a jar that could hardly contain the aroma; she could smell the fragrance seeping out. But could Mengzhen really make soup?

Sniffing the aroma, Hongwei swallowed hard, “It does smell really good. Zhenzhen’s cooking skills are impressive. Hurry, bring it in and let me try.”

With Tianyu already gone, the soup naturally made it to the table. As the lid was lifted, the fragrance could no longer be contained; it spread to every corner of the house.

“They’ve sent us a whole chicken. Will they have enough to eat?”

“Call Tianhua and ask if they need it back,” Hongwei suggested.

Yinan quickly dug out her phone and dialed Tianhua, who was still intently staring at the stove, startling him with the sudden ringtone, “Hello, Mom? What’s up? You got the soup, right?”

“We did. But why did you all agree to send the soup over? Do you have enough to eat there?”

“We do, Zhenzhen cooked three chickens. We sent one over; we still have two here. Half a chicken each is plenty. You better eat your soup while it’s hot; it’s so fragrant. Is my brother back? We’re waiting on him to start eating.”

Annoyed, Yinan replied, “He’s already on his way back.”

No sooner had she finished speaking, Tianyu arrived, relieved to see the pottery pot undisturbed on the stove, “Come on, let’s eat.”

Without waiting for a full reply, Tianhua hung up hastily to divide the chicken among them.

Four large bowls, just the right amount of half a chicken each, and then they served the radish broth and Chicken Soup Powder.

The portions in the four bowls were equally satisfying. Mengchen surely couldn’t finish hers, but there were enough people around to handle any leftovers.

Once the four bowls of soup were on the table and everyone took a sip, they all felt a sense of contentment.

Savoring the delicious taste, they had no time for conversation, heedless of the heat as they kept spooning more into their mouths.

Even the siblings, used to the delicacies from the special space, were amazed by the chicken soup.

“This is so delicious,” Mengzhen remarked, with everyone else quickly nodding in agreement.

p>The same scene didn’t just occur in their home. In the aunt’s house, the situation was similar. The chicken soup wasn’t just fragrant; it was even more delicious to eat. As the couple had planned to dine simply, just the two of them, a couple of stir-fries were made, and the arrival of the chicken soup was timely. But after tasting the soup, who could still think of the stir-fries? They soon devoured the soup with a lingering desire for more.

Patting his distended stomach, Hongwei could hardly believe it, “Zhenzhen’s cooking is really good, huh? This soup is truly exceptional.”

Yinan, recalling the food she ate at Mengzhen’s house, and now this soup, speculated, “Could this have been purchased from that vegetable seller as well? I ate there once before, and it was delicious, but it had nothing to do with her cooking skills; it was just the quality of the vegetables.”

The soup had to be about the ingredients because making soup is really too simple, just add ingredients and water. It all comes down to the quality of the ingredients.

“Didn’t you go shopping for vegetables this morning? Still no sign of that person at the stall,” Hongwei inquired.

“Nope. Just that little convenience store crowd, lots of people waiting for vegetables, waited a long time but nobody showed up. I strolled around, didn’t see anyone, so I left. Where did Zhenzhen buy it from?” Yinan mused.

“Must’ve been from a previous purchase, you like to stock up on vegetables as well, saves you frequent trips,” he reasoned.

That explanation seemed to make sense, and after sitting for a while to allow their stomachs to settle, they went into the kitchen to wash the dishes. Then, they had to return the jar to Mengzhen, hence they both headed out together. When they arrived at Mengzhen’s place, they were instantly irritated.

With Mengchen standing on a stool diligently wiping the table and Mengzhen washing dishes in the kitchen, their own children were lounging on the couch like nobles. Yinan couldn’t hold back any longer and bellowed, “Tianyu, Tianhua!”
