Chapter 46: Chapter 46 Attitude Problem

Chapter 46 -46 Attitude Problem

The seafood that cost just a few tens of bucks wasn’t something she couldn’t carry. Besides, the secluded spot she found was not far from home—it was practically just around the corner from her front door.

When Mei Mengzhen came out with the seafood, she faintly saw two people at the doorstep looking around with a mix of anticipation and excitement. As soon as they caught sight of Mei Mengzhen, they ran out from the house to greet her.

“Zhenzhen, what did you buy?”

Fan Tianyu hadn’t even reached her, but he was already stretching out his hand. Mei Mengzhen conveniently passed the seafood to him, “Seafood. I’ve wanted to eat it for a while but never had the time. Their seafood is pretty tasty.”

“Sister.” Mei Mengchen also walked over and took her hand with an adorable call. Mei Mengzhen asked in turn, “Does Chenchen like seafood?”

Mei Mengchen tilted his head to think, “Seafood, huh? Has Chenchen ever eaten seafood?”

Her answer plunged her into memories—certainly, she had eaten seafood before, but as for whether Mei Mengchen had, she really couldn’t recall. After all, it was something from over a decade ago. She used one of the most common seafood as an example,”Like shrimp, do you remember it, Chenchen?”

Mei Mengchen shook his head, “I don’t remember.”

Mei Mengchen wasn’t lying—he truly didn’t remember and he hadn’t eaten it. Even the last time Mei Mengzhen had seafood was when Grandpa Mei was still alive because her parents just didn’t cook those dishes. Even if it was just steaming, they found it too troublesome. So, truly, her brother hadn’t eaten shrimp before.

“Then later, sister will prepare some for you to eat.”

Mei Mengchen nodded vigorously, “Mm.”

Fan Tianyu opened the bag to take a look, “These shrimps are so lively, really fresh. There’s even abalone here.”

“That’s right, Brother Tianyu. I’ll leave the cleaning of these to you.”

Fan Tianyu patted his chest confidently, “No problem, cleaning these things is really easy.”

However, the moment the trio returned to the doorstep, something unexpected happened.

The three of them stood at the door, looking at each other—each looking, yet all merely standing still, without moving.

Mei Mengzhen said, “Open the door, Brother Tianyu.”

Fan Tianyu stiffly smiled, “I didn’t bring the keys. I was waiting for you to open the door. I thought you had them.”

“I didn’t bring the keys either, because you were home so I didn’t take them.”

Both gave each other a dumbfounded look and said simultaneously, “Which means we’re locked out.”

“How could you not bring the keys when you leave the house?”

“I thought you had the keys, so…” Fan Tianyu scratched his head, “What do we do now, break in?”

“You go to your house to get the keys. Auntie has a spare set, and while you’re at it, ask her to come over for dinner.”

Fan Tianyu hesitated after hearing this. It wasn’t that he was afraid of his mom coming to dinner; he was just afraid she’d nag about his gluttony without end. But not going back meant no dinner, so after a struggle, he chose to go home.

Watching Fan Tianyu’s retreating figure, Mei Mengzhen sighed a bit, “Chenchen, make sure you never become as impulsive as your Brother Tianyu in the future.”

Mei Mengchen didn’t quite understand what ‘impulsive’ meant, but he did understand not to act like Tianyu, “Okay, sister. I won’t be like Tianyu.”

Mei Mengzhen stroked her brother’s thick head of hair,”Chenchen will be going to kindergarten soon. Will you cry?”

Mei Mengchen didn’t understand why one would cry for going to kindergarten. “I won’t cry.” His little head immediately turned to ask, “Did sister cry?”

“Definitely. When sister went to kindergarten, I cried every day, each morning.”

“Why?”

“Because sister was always at home, suddenly going to kindergarten was such a change. Leaving a familiar environment was scary, so I cried.”

Mei Mengchen looked in the direction of the kindergarten. Hmm, it wasn’t far at all; even Brother Tianyu passed by there when taking him for strolls. It was a place he saw every day, so there was nothing to cry about, “I won’t cry.”

“Chenchen is so brave. Our Chenchen is the bravest kid. It’s just kindergarten, what’s there to cry about, right?”

“Right. I’ll go to kindergarten in the morning and then come home to sister waiting for me in the evening.”

“Yes, sister will be at home. Just remember when you come home, sister will be here.”

Mei Mengchen nodded, and then they heard a commotion. Turning towards the sound, the two saw Mei Yinan and his wife approaching.

Mei Yinan was really upset, “Can you tell me what you can do right? You even forget the keys when you go out. You’re not young anymore, can’t you be more responsible?”

Fan Tianyu tried to deflect the blame, “But Zhenzhen didn’t bring her keys either.”

“That’s because someone was home. How can you be the last one out and not take the keys?”

“Mom, it was just this once. When have I ever forgotten them before? Can’t you just drop it and stop harping on this one mistake?I”

Mei Yinan was dismissive, “I would like to talk about something else, but you have too many faults; I can’t keep up, so I have to focus on one at a time.”

Fan Tianyu was speechless. He retreated to Fan Hongwei for help, “Dad, you’ve got to help me with Mom. She’s not even menopausal yet.”

Mei Yinan exploded at the mention of menopause, “What about menopause? If I mention it, will you not talk back? Is this about menopause? This is about your attitude towards life and work.”

This escalated the issue significantly. Fan Tianyu wasn’t pleased to let it slide, “No, how does forgetting the keys escalate to an attitude problem about life and work? You’re really making too much out of this.”

Mei Yinan had spoken without thinking and unwittingly hit a nerve. Seeing her son become serious, she felt she might have gone too far. After all, it was just a forgotten key, something she often forgot herself. But now that she’d said it, there was no way she’d apologize to her son.

Seeing trouble brewing, Fan Hongwei quickly tried to smooth things over, “Alright, Zhenzhen and Chenchen are still waiting at the door. You can scold your son, just don’t bring Zhenzhen into it.”

Although the remark wasn’t very pleasant, Fan Tianyu actually agreed and didn’t contradict it. All three closed their mouths and naturally skipped over the previous topic.

However, the weird thing was that Mei Mengzhen and her brother had clearly heard the argument, but when the trio arrived, they didn’t say a word, looking particularly stern.

“Auntie, Uncle.”

The couple nodded and opened the front door. Right after doing so, they were ready to leave, but Mei Mengzhen hurriedly called them back, “Auntie, Uncle, you’re already here, don’t leave. Just eat with us.”

Both being working professionals, this was precisely the time for them to join for dinner. If they had eaten, the couple wouldn’t have come over with Fan Tianyu, which meant they hadn’t started yet.
