Chapter 77 -77 Spatial Planning is Great (2/3)
After everyone collapsed for a while, Tianyu counted his money, which was roughly the same as the previous days, and then it was time to cook dumplings for lunch.
Tianyu was conscientious enough to know that after a tiring morning, everyone was sprawled out and didn’t want to move. He couldn’t cook other dishes, but making dumplings was no problem for him.
After devouring a big bowl of dumplings each, their strength was largely restored.
Thinking back to what Tianhua had said the day before, the couple suddenly felt their daughter had made a lot of sense. With their help during the holidays, but usually, it would all be up to their son alone; fatigue was one thing, but whether he could withstand this in the long run was another. Yinan thought for a moment and made a decision, “Son, why not take your sister’s advice and rent a storefront to drag the vegetables there all at once, and hire someone to watch the store and sell them?”
Mengzhen strongly agreed with Tianhua and Yinan’s idea, but spending money meant they would still be tired. Why not go bigger, she suggested, “Actually, if that’s the case, why not rent a larger space like a supermarket and set up a cash register? That way, with computerized accounting, you won’t have to worry about money being taken, and as these kinds of supermarkets tend to attract many customers, Brother Tianyu wouldn’t have to work so hard. Since we’re spending money to hire people anyway, why not spend a little more to make things easier? Brother Tianyu would just need to be responsible for delivering goods and settling the accounts at the end of each day.”
Her suggestion was akin to the future supermarkets that specialized in fruits and vegetables, not the ones inside a mall, but those located on the street. She didn’t know if they existed at the moment, but in the future, many people would run such operations. Typically, several people are hired to stock up, and then customers purchase their items at cash registers, one by one, which actually reduces the error rate.
All Tianyu would have to do each day is check the accounts once the vegetables are sold, and she would handle the bookkeeping and payroll on her end—an easy task for her.
Tianyu said, “Then, if we do it on a large scale like you suggest, no matter how long we do it, the first question is whether we can supply enough. We can’t just rent a place and sell vegetables for only half a day, right? So would I pay the hired workers for a full day or half a day?”
Mengzhen thought for a moment and said, “Let me go upstairs and make a call.”
Going upstairs to make a call was an excuse; in fact, she wanted to carefully calculate how much she could grow in a day and whether it would be enough to support Tianyu’s store for a full day.
Based on today’s volume, it was about 30 large crates and 10 small crates each day. Of course, there would be minor discrepancies, but with only one or two extra crates, it was not much.
The garage rented by Tianyu could easily hold these 40 crates. To facilitate easy movement for Tianyu, she stacked two crates at a time on the ground. The garage still had plenty of spare space, and the crates could be stacked higher. Without pushing it, 80 crates would be no problem at all.
Next, she needed to figure out if she had enough time each day to grow the vegetables.
She quickly worked this out; she would usually start harvesting from the beginning once she had finished sowing the seeds in a loop.
This was under the condition that not all the farmland was used. Her space was vast, equivalent to the size of two football fields, and just the dark fertile soil took up one-fifth of it. Since she was continuously sowing seeds, she never completed a full loop. Generally, she only used a small patch of land in front of her, walking and sowing simultaneously. As soon as she started harvesting at the front, she would stop. However, it was possible to use the entire area if needed.
Typically, preparing food would take her about 20-30 minutes. She was confident she could handle an increased load in under an hour. Normally, she would go to bed at 11 p.m. and sleep by 11:30 p.m., which was already early for a Senior 3 student. But it wouldn’t hurt to sleep at midnight. Earning money at this time was surely the most important thing—in the future, she might not even get such an opportunity.
With this in mind, Mengzhen felt clear about it; she cheerfully went downstairs and told everyone, “The other side said it’s possible to increase by half or even more. I’ll communicate the specific amount with them one day in advance.”
Hongwei said, “So now the task is to find a shop.”
Yinan said, “It can’t be too far from the market, or there won’t be any business. I think, people here have their regular places to buy vegetables, even if your store is nearby, it might still be affected.”
Mengzhen thought for a second and said, “Isn’t there a pharmacy in front of the market that’s up for lease? Why not rent that.”
The pharmacy, located next to the main entrance of the market, was quite large but too close to the market. Perhaps due to the dirty environment or other reasons, business was very poor there. She remembered that in her past life, the pharmacy closed around this time and was later turned into a small mall selling cheap clothes and bags, but it was demolished a year later as part of the redevelopment plans, and there was no follow-up to that.
“That pharmacy? It’s pretty big, and it’s the closest to the market, indeed a good spot. Okay, I will go and inquire this afternoon,” Tianyu said.
Mengzhen nodded, “Go ahead, I still have homework to do this afternoon.”
Indeed, being a Senior 3 student, she had completed most of her homework the previous day and still had a bit left. With one day left before the end of the holidays, she was worried she wouldn’t have time to finish it tomorrow. As for the evening, she needed to grow vegetables in her space—better to store as much as possible now to make things easier later. Besides, there was little a Senior 3 student could help with.
With Tianyu having found his task and the Fan couple having returned home, the parents felt a bit tired from the morning and wanted to lie down for a rest in the afternoon. As they watched their son’s business grow, they needed to have quiet private conversations.
Tianhua, feeling it was her responsibility, stayed with them, planning to go out with Tianyu later. In her heart, she still found her brother to be unreliable, remembering all too well the recent incident where they nearly lost 200,000.
Naturally, Mengzhen went back to her homework, while Mengchen initially watched television with her but eventually dozed off for a nap.
By the time Mengzhen managed to finish her homework in a rush, seeing her brother still asleep, she lay down on the desk and entered her space, where she busily got to work.
Whether by foresight or coincidence, Mengzhen had made full use of every corner of her space from the start. She had allocated a large area for poultry and left a significant amount of space beside the pond to accommodate the plants grown there that required space to be spread out.
