Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse-Chapter 94: Loyalty
Chapter 94: Loyalty
"My wife and I have things to do. Please leave if there is nothing else." Mo Chenxuan said, pointing at the door.
"Mo Chenxuan..." Qin Feng angrily stood up.
"Please leave." Qin Wu added.
Hearing this, Qin Feng gritted his teeth and led Qin Lan out of the house.
"I am sure this won’t be the end of it." Qin Wu sighed.
"Don’t worry about them." Mo Chenxuan said, rubbing Qin Wu’s hair.
"What things do we have to do?" Qin Wu asked.
"We will do whatever you want to do."
"Mmh..." Qin Wu nodded with a thoughtful expression.
A moment later, she smiled, and pulled Mo Chenxuan to head upstairs.
"What’s the plan?" Mo Chenxuan asked.
"You will know in a bit."
After entering their bedroom, Qin Wu locked the door, and asked Mo Chenxuan to enter his space.
Soon after, the two entered the space villa’s sitting room and Qin Wu began fiddling with the entertainment system.
"Brother Chenxuan, I want to watch anime. Is it okay?" She asked.
"As I said, we will do whatever you want." Mo Chenxuan smiled.
Although he and Qin Wu had worked together for several years and even survived together in their previous life, they hadn’t spent much leisure time together.
At this time, Mo Chenxuan was naturally happy to experience a piece of Qin Wu’s life that he had never experienced.
"Brother Chenxuan, which one do you want to watch?" Qin Wu asked but soon realised Mo Chenxuan rarely did anything expect work and read some difficult books.
"Let’s watch your favourite."
"My favourite..." Qin Wu frowned before continuing
"My favourite has more than one thousand episodes and we can’t finish it in one go. Also, it was still airing before the end of the world."
Thinking that she would never see the end of her favourite anime, Qin Wu suddenly felt depressed and her eyelids drooped.
"I am sorry." Mo Chenxuan said, not knowing what else to say.
"It’s a real pity." Qin Wu muttered but forcibly suppressed her depression.
"I think we should save my favourite for when we have more time. That way, you won’t have to suffer through cliffhangers."
"I will listen to you." Mo Chenxuan said and quickly continued.
"What about your second favourite?"
"It also has more than one thousand episodes and was still airing before the apocalypse. However, each mini-story arc is at most two to five episodes."
"It’s settled then."
After that, Qin Wu and Mo Chenxuan settled down to watch detective Conan.
Because they had a late breakfast, they didn’t break for lunch until four in the afternoon.
However, by that time, Mo Chenxuan was completely hooked on detective Conan.
"It’s good, isn’t it?" Qin Wu asked, looking at Mo Chenxuan with expectant eyes.
"Very good." The man nodded.
Before the apocalypse, life was all about work, occasional drinks with friends, and books.
Unexpectedly, after spending time with Qin Wu, he realised there was a vast world he had never discovered.
However, Mo Chenxuan didn’t regret the life he had lived.
Although he missed out on many things, he had also gained many others.
Most importantly, he and Qin Wu were less than thirty and had a lot of time to experience the things they previously hadn’t.
That day, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu didn’t work or meet others.
Instead, they stayed in their space villa; watching anime, eating, and occasionally kissing.
The next morning, the two woke up early and were down for breakfast before seven.
After breakfast, they went to the study and began poring over the reports that accumulated during their absence.
"Brother Chenxuan, look at this." Qin Wu suddenly said, sliding a document to Mo Chenxuan.
Seeing this, Mo Chenxuan stopped what he was doing and began reading the document that Qin Wu handed over.
A moment later, the man frowned, looking at Qin Wu with thoughtful eyes.
"Wu’er, did something like this happen in our previous life?" He asked but Qin Wu shook his head.
"I don’t remember such an incident. Brother Chenxuan..."
"What’s the matter?"
"So far, we are sure of three rebirths – you, me, and Chu Wan’er. It’s hard to predict the consequences of our existence."
"Mmh..." Mo Chenxuan nodded, glancing at the document.
According to the report, more than twenty children had gone missing while team Legends was on the previous mission.
Unfortunately, it was the apocalypse and people went missing every day.
"Uncle Zhang took note because none of these children left the base. Whatever happened to them, happened within the base." Mo Chenxuan said and Qin Wu nodded.
"Brother Chenxuan, do you think it could be researchers? Maybe they want to experiment on the kids."
"It’s possible." Mo Chenxuan nodded and quickly continued.
"It could also be something else."
Qin Wu frowned when she heard that.
As someone who had been in the apocalypse for more than eight years, she naturally knew what ’something else’ meant.
However, she didn’t dare to think about it.
"They are probably alive or have been turned into monstrosities if they were taken by researchers. However, if they were taken by child sex traffickers, their fate may be worse that death. I don’t know what is worse." Qin Wu sighed.
"Brother Chenxuan..."
"Do you want me to find them?"
"Can you?"
"I was planning to."
Although being nosy was not a good trait in the apocalypse, children were the capital for revolution.
How could he and Qin Wu stand by while hordes of children were disappearing?
Thinking this way, Mo Chenxuan released his spiritual sense and began to carefully check the surroundings.
Mo Chenxuan usually enveloped his house and the villa area with his spiritual sense.
However, he knew his boundaries and never tried to recklessly invade other people’s privacy.
This time, Mo Chenxuan wasn’t as considerate.
Although he didn’t listen to all conversations or watch other people’s intimacy, he carefully checked basements or anything that seemed suspicious.
As a result, he discovered a lot of shady things but didn’t find out what he was looking for.
"The children are not in the villa area. I will have to walk around the base to see if I can discover anything." He said.
"Good. Let’s..." Qin Wu started but a knock suddenly interrupted her words.
"Brother Chenxuan, were you expecting anyone?"
"No, but it’s fine." Mo Chenxuan said and stood up to open the door.
A moment later, he returned with Xiao Junxie.
"I am sorry for visiting so early in the morning." Xiao Junxie said with a sheepish expression.
In fact, he had already visited the previous day.
However, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu were in seclusion and uncle Zhang refused to disturb them.
In the end, Xiao Junxie could only wait until now.
"It’s nothing. Have you had breakfast?" Qin Wu asked.
"I have already eaten. Thank you for asking."
"Have a seat and tell us what is going on."
Xiao Junxie nodded when he heard this but he didn’t immediately take a seat.
"Is something wrong?" Qin Wu asked.
"I would like to apologise for my previous offense. It was presumptuous to expect young master Mo and young miss Qin to take me in without contributing anything."
"This matter has already been settled. There is no need to talk about it." Qin Wu said and Xiao Junxie nodded in gratitude.
"This time, I would like to pledge my loyalty to young master Mo and young miss Qin." Xiao Junxie said in a solemn voice.
"Pledge your loyalty?" Mo Chenxuan asked.
At the same time, he and Qin Wu exchanged a subtle look.
"Young master Mo saved me three times during the previous mission. However, I have nothing but my loyalty to repay your kindness. I hope young master Mo and young miss Qin will allow me to express my gratitude."
Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu looked at each other when they heard this.
They had evaluated Xiao Junxie during the previous mission.
As expected, the man was a career soldier and was not suitable for the team.
However, he was skilled, hardworking, and loyal.
Seeing these qualities, Mo Chenxuan became more confident about his previous decision.
"There are many ways to repay kindness. Why choose the most difficult?" Qin Wu suddenly asked and quickly continued.
"Why not use crystal cores or a form of labour to express your gratitude?"
"I do not come from a prominent clan but my family has produced more than five consecutive generations of soldiers. Unfortunately, the person I was asked to follow is not worthy of my loyalty. That said, I still want to be a soldier and I want to follow a worthy general."
"I see." Qin Wu chuckled and looked at Mo Chenxuan.
"Xiao Junxie, following us won’t be easy."
"I know." The man nodded.
After all, team Legends was already against team Overlord and it was only a matter of time before the two teams fell out.
A moment later, Mo Chenxuan looked at Qin Wu and she produced a mask from the space.
"You will be a part of team Legends if you take this mask but your task will be different from the other members. Do you still want it?" Mo Chenxuan asked.
