Chapter 36: Let’s shower first, Wifey!

She trusted Mo Ran? She knew she didn’t trust that much but she knew she trusted him.

When had it changed? Why didn’t she notice? How her heart raced each time they were together?!

Mo Ran patted her cheeks, what was she thinking about and why were her cheeks so red.

"Why don’t we continue from where we left off...hmm.."

Mo Ran stood up and scooped Lixue into his arms, picking up the jacket that has fallen on the ground.

"Hey, hey..." Lixue protested, the way he picked her up so easily made her want to gain a little more weight.

"We can’t finish this off on the beach my dear wifey, it’s too cold let’s go to somewhere warm.."

Lixue’s face flushed deeper as Mo Ran carried her effortlessly, her arms instinctively wrapping around his neck for balance. She glanced up at him, his calm and confident expression making her heart flutter even more.

"Mo Ran, put me down," she muttered, her voice a mix of embarrassment and exasperation. "People will see us like this!"

"It’s dark, no one’s here." He tilted his head down, smirking slightly. "Unless you want me to announce it to the world—’Look, everyone, this is my wife!’"

Lixue swatted his shoulder lightly. "Stop joking! I’m serious!"

"And I’m serious too," he said, his tone dropping an octave, his eyes locking with hers. "You think I care what anyone else thinks? You’re my wife, Lixue. I’ll carry you whenever and wherever I want."

Her breath caught in her throat at his sudden intensity. This man... how could he switch so easily between teasing and serious?

"You’re impossible," she mumbled, burying her face in his chest to hide her flustered expression.

"And yet, you’re married to me," he quipped, a grin tugging at the corners of his mouth as he began walking toward the car.

By the time they reached the vehicle, Mo Ran had already opened the door and gently placed her inside, wrapping his jacket securely around her shoulders again.

"You’re really something else," Lixue muttered as she adjusted the jacket.

He leaned in, his face close to hers, his smirk turning playful again. "That’s why you can’t take your eyes off me, isn’t it?"

Lixue rolled her eyes but couldn’t stop the small smile from forming on her lips. "Let’s go before I change my mind about kicking you."

"Kicking me, huh?" Mo Ran chuckled as he started the car. "I’ll take that as progress."

As they drove, the warmth of the car and his easy presence began to melt away the remnants of her earlier sadness. The conversation was light, filled with Mo Ran’s unintentional humor and her soft laughter.

When they finally arrived at his private villa, he opened the door for her and extended a hand.

"Welcome to somewhere warm," he said, his voice smooth as he led her inside.

Lixue glanced around the cozy yet elegant space. The soft lighting, plush furniture, and faint scent of jasmine made it feel more like a home than she expected.

"Do you bring all your wives here?" she teased, raising an eyebrow as she slipped off her shoes.

He smirked, pulling her gently into his arms. "Only the one who stole my heart."

She stared at him, her cheeks heating again at his unexpected sincerity.

"Mo Ran..."

"Hmm?"

"Stop saying things like that," she murmured, looking away.

"Why? Because you’ll fall for me even harder?"

Lixue huffed, pushing lightly against his chest, but he didn’t budge. His arms stayed firmly around her, his gaze unwavering.

"You’re already mine, Lixue. Whether you admit it or not."

Her lips parted to retort, but she stopped herself, realizing that—despite everything—he wasn’t entirely wrong.

"This is one of my private villas, small and cozy I think we can spend the night here. I’ll just text auntie Feng that we won’t be coming home tonight.."

Lixue roamed around the living room, the style was so Mo Ran’s and the smell of jasmine was comfortable.

"Only my clothes are here so you’ll have to make do with my t-shirt tonight.."

"..."

"Wait ...why do I need to wear your clothes.."

Mo Ran chuckled "Unless you got a new set of clothes in that tiny bag of yours, you’ll have to stick to my clothes darling.."

Mo Ran walked over to her, scooping her up again without any warning.

"Mo Ran! Put me down!" Lixue protested, flailing slightly in his arms.

Ignoring her protests, he carried her into the bedroom, tossing her bag onto the bed before heading straight for the en suite bathroom.

"Let’s shower first, wifey," he said with a smirk, turning the water on and testing its temperature.

"Shower? Together?!" Lixue’s voice rose a pitch higher, her eyes wide as she looked between him and the running water.

He leaned casually against the counter, his arms crossed. "What’s wrong with that? We’re married. Don’t married couples do this?"

"No way! I’m not ready for that kind of..." She trailed off, her face turning scarlet.

Mo Ran let out a low chuckle, reaching out to pinch her cheek. "Relax. I’m joking. I wouldn’t rush you into something you’re not ready for. But you should still shower—otherwise, you’ll catch a cold."

"I don’t need you to tell me that," she muttered, yanking a towel off the rack and shoving him toward the door. "Now get out!"

He allowed himself to be pushed, a lazy grin on his face. "Alright, alright. I’ll wait outside. Don’t take too long, or I might think you’re inviting me back in."

"Mo Ran!"

His laughter echoed as he closed the door behind him.

Once Lixue shoved Mo Ran out of the bathroom and locked the door, she leaned against it, letting out a long breath.

"What’s wrong with that man?" she muttered, pressing a hand to her chest to calm her racing heart. "Does he have to act like that all the time?"

She glanced at the mirror, her reflection showing her flushed cheeks and frazzled hair. With a groan, she grabbed the towel she had draped over her arm and headed toward the shower.

Turning on the water, she mumbled to herself, "Married couples do this? Married couples my foot! Who does he think he is, saying that with such a straight face? I almost believed him!"

She stepped into the shower, but her thoughts didn’t stop.

"And why does he have to carry me around like a sack of rice? I’m not that light, am I?" She poked at her side, frowning. "Do I need to start eating more? Or maybe I need to start exercising—no, no, focus, Lixue! This isn’t about your weight!"
