Chapter 877 -851: A Turn of Events
Yuzo Joel’s apprentices were few, but each one was a leading figure in the industry. His appraisal of Isaac, a freshly graduated university student with a level three certification in psychological consulting, was extraordinarily high.
However, Mrs. Kiara was not flattered. This was the apprentice she had painstakingly mentored; did she really need such praise from this frivolous old man?
“Since you don’t want me to intervene, I won’t. Anyway, a domestic contest like this isn’t all that interesting. Instead, I’ll contact you about an international competition right away, which you can attend in three months.”
“Not interested.”
She still had her hands full with plans to have a baby at home, where could she find the energy to indulge in such chaotic activities?
Upon hearing Kiara’s response, Professor Joel gave up meddling in the matter and decided to take this opportunity to educate Kiara properly, advising her not to be nosy all the time.
Kiara was prepared that her journey in this competition had come to an end. The thought that Yuzo Joel might tease her for being soft-hearted was especially vexing, but unexpectedly, things took a turn.
Just as Kiara and Yuzo Joel had anticipated, an intense debate was unfolding at the judges’ exclusive scoring table.
Isaac’s performance was undeniably impressive.
Yet, some judges felt that it was not in the spirit of the competition for Kiara to have her assistant participate in her stead.
Professor Liu Taylor was also one of the judges, but she was in a different group and couldn’t intervene in the affairs of Kiara’s group.
Upon hearing the commotion, Professor Liu Taylor was anxious but couldn’t speak up.
What on earth was Kiara doing, and how could she miss such an important event?
Although Isaac and Kiara did indeed have a mentor-apprentice relationship in practice, there was no formal recognition of it. Kiara was still a student herself. If Kiara had been older, perhaps sending someone with a formal apprentice status in her place might have been justifiable.
But Kiara was still a young woman— who would believe that Isaac was her apprentice?
There were also judges who believed there were inherent flaws in the competition’s design this time around.
The rules did state that an assistant role was established and that the assistant could stay on stage to help the participant during the preparation period, but there wasn’t a clause explicitly forbidding the assistant from answering questions alone—this was, after all, designed as a pair’s event.
However, these judges were in the minority. Most still believed absence amounted to forfeiting the spot, and even though Isaac’s ability was top-notch, they argued that Kiara should not receive any points and should be disqualified.
Just as the judges were about to leave a blank abstention vote on Kiara’s scorecard, someone ran over, holding a document and whispered something to the judges’ panel.
Finally, the time came to announce who would advance to the next round.
Isaac nervously watched the scoreboards, and as the host announced the advancing names and scores, Isaac felt disappointed.
Mrs. Kiara’s score wasn’t announced. Had there been a problem with her rebuttal?
Feeling that he had let Mrs. Kiara down… Isaac looked in her direction, filled with remorse.
Kiara gave him a thumbs-up and then made a heart shape with her hands, signaling that he performed wonderfully today. Isaac felt a warmth in his eyes as he stood on stage.
Kiara stood up, ready to join Mother Yuno backstage to meet Isaac.
Being disqualified was no big deal; Isaac’s performance had truly satisfied Kiara, fulfilling the purpose of training her apprentice.
Mother Yuno was psychologically prepared for this outcome but still felt a bit defiant, muttering softly.
“If we hadn’t dealt with that matter, we would have been in first place by now.”
Isaac was mentored by Kiara, and she herself had performed so well—Kiara’s entry would have been an instant decimation.
Kiara, linking arms with Mother Yuno, jokingly said.
“Mom, your thinking has become quite outrageous. If dad finds out, do you think he’ll give you a lecture on proper thinking?”
Mother Yuno’s sentimental emotions were lightened a bit by her banter.
“I’m not saying you shouldn’t save people. When our family sees something like this, it’s right to help if we can. I’m not saying what you did was bad, just a bit regrettable.”
The two chatted as they walked outside, but suddenly the host on stage spoke again.
“Today, one of the competitors hasn’t arrived at the venue, and she is Emma Clark.”
Eh…?
Kiara stopped in her tracks. What’s going on, was she being called out?
“Her assistant performed exceptionally well in this defense, but this posed a great dilemma for the judges. Because of her absence, there was controversy over whether the assistant’s defense should count as her score.”
Kiara hadn’t reacted yet. What act are they putting on?
She looked towards Professor Joel. Are you pulling some kind of trick?
Professor Joel was even more innocent than Kiara. He spread his hands wide; it wasn’t him this time. He had even planned to use this opportunity to give Kiara a lesson.
If it wasn’t him, then who could it be?
Kiara pulled Mother Yuno back to their seats. Being called out, they still needed to hear what was going on.
“Originally, the judges decided that an assistant’s score shouldn’t count for the competitor. But just now, we received a special letter of thanks, and this changed the judges’ minds!”
The big screen displayed the official letter of thanks.
The host spoke emotionally.
“The letter states that competitor Emma Clark was involved in assisting with a hostage situation caused by a patient with mental disorders. She gave up the chance to compete for the sake of the patient, opting to miss the contest in order to fulfill her duty as a Psychological Expert!”
The screen shifted to a photo of Kiara holding a megaphone, confronting the bad guy.
Mother Yuno got excited. This was a moment in the spotlight!
So many friends and family were watching the live broadcast. Answering questions has nothing on a featured introduction with visuals!
Mother Yuno was about to congratulate Kiara when she turned and saw Kiara covering her eyes in distress.
“What’s wrong?”
“Not only does the red T-shirt make me look bulky, I’m also wearing flat shoes today!”
Mrs. Kiara, concerned about her image, wasn’t excited about her moment on screen but instead was irked and planned to lambaste Camden Yuno when she got home!
What’s with the red shirt with a tick mark! You have to wear sneakers with this kind of clothing, and now it has revealed her short stature and not-so-tall frame!
“I think you look beautiful, full of valor and spirit,” Professor Joel complimented with a smile.
“Full of what spirit! Didn’t you see how short I am?”
Only Mrs. Kiara would fuss about her height at a moment like this.

Both the audience and the judges were shocked by this unexpected twist.
It was just an ordinary competition, and most of the people who came to watch were friends and family of the competitors. After all, Psychology is profound and not very accessible, so most people didn’t understand it. They were just there to liven things up and cheer on their loved ones.
Who would have thought that such a plot twist would suddenly emerge, igniting such excitement?
This host used to work on emotional talk shows before being transferred to host a psychological competition. She stumbled over the professional jargon, but when it came to delivering news of positivity, she was instantly energized, as if injected with chicken blood. Jumbled Psychology names were not her forte, but stirring emotions, wasn’t that her bread and butter!
