Chapter 193: Chapter 193 Embracing Big Sister

“Am I not just trying to collect the money back for Second Madame? You shouldn’t treat me this way; I am your own elder sister after all,” Mo Yaner said, looking as if she had done nothing wrong, standing there all righteous and bold.

Xuexue instantly flew into a rage. She had been stifling her anger for several days and now it exploded, “You know you’re my own elder sister, yet you still treat me and mother like this? Since the first day you returned to your maiden home, you even brought the Mo family’s people to hurt mother, and she didn’t utter a single complaint, even speaking on your behalf. But you? You still question us at every turn? Take a good look, we’ve been reluctant to even eat this white rice ourselves, preferring to eat sweet potatoes, just to save it for your children to eat. Mo Yaner, have you no conscience at all?”

In the heat of her anger, Xuexue spoke while fiercely jabbing her finger into Mo Yaner’s chest.

As these events unfolded during the meal, everyone stopped eating and just stared blankly at the two sisters arguing, especially Madam Xie who was anxiously turning in circles, clueless on how to calm them down.

Perhaps hurt by Xuexue’s poking, Mo Yaner shoved her away and bellowed furiously, “What do you expect me to do then? On one side is mother; on the other side are father, Second Madame, and my grandparents. They are my elders, and as the younger, I can’t just ignore them, can I?”

“Since you’re so filial, we won’t make it difficult for you. You should take your husband and children and go live with the Mo family. This temple is too small to accommodate such a great Buddha like you,” Xuexue dismissed her coldly.

“How kind of you, Mo Xueer. After all that nonsense, you just want us gone, don’t you?” Mo Yaner’s eyes reddened, unable to believe that the gentle and sweet little sister she remembered would one day say such cruel words to her.

“If you say so,” Xuexue replied, her voice becoming calm and exceedingly cold.

“Fine, I’ll go then! This shabby house, it’s so drafty and even worse than my own home. I do not fancy living here at all.”

In a fit of rage, Mo Yaner stood up, grabbed Tuantuan and Yuanyuan who were still eating, and with one child in each hand, she stormed out furiously.

“Yaner, Yaner, don’t go. It’s so late, the weather is cold, and Tuantuan and Yuanyuan are still so small. Where can you possibly go?” Madam Xie moved forward to try and stop her.

Having just taken a couple of steps, Mo Yaner regretted her decision. Deep down, she knew all too well the Mo family, especially Old Lady Mo, was both opportunistic and troublesome; it definitely wasn’t a good place to stay. But finding it hard to back down now, she retorted, “If you don’t welcome me, I can just stay with father. The Mo family has plenty of rooms, and we would be more comfortable there anyway.”

“No, no, we all welcome you. Your sister just misspoke; she regrets it,” Madam Xie was almost frantic with worry. It had been several years since she had seen her eldest daughter, and now, just two days after reuniting, she was about to leave again. Madam Xie’s heart ached at the thought. Turning to Xuexue, her voice was pleading, “Xuexue, quickly, apologize to your elder sister, okay? Don’t let her leave.”

Xuexue, still feeling righteous indignation, coldly said, “Mother, if elder sister wants to go live in a fancy mansion, let’s not block her path to wealth. Please move aside; otherwise, in a while, she’ll blame us yet again.”

“Hmph!”

Initially wanting to use the argument as a pretext to stay, Mo Yaner’s anger reignited upon hearing Xuexue’s words and, pulling Tuantuan and Yuanyuan along, she left in a huff, with Madam Xie unable to stop her.

“Mother, mother, where are we going?” Tuantuan asked, not really wanting to leave. His maternal grandmother was so kind to them, always saving the tasty food for them and Chuner was such a playmate, running around the village with them—it was so fun!

“We are going to our maternal grandfather’s home; it’s far more spacious than this broken-down house,” Mo Yaner said, exasperated by Xuexue.

“Wife, wife, wait for me.”

Li Feng, taking advantage of their argument, had been eagerly filling his belly; he certainly didn’t want to experience the torture of hunger like the other days, feeling so miserably uncomfortable that death seemed preferable.
