Rebirth: Slice-of-life Cultivation-Chapter 154 - 143: A Particularly Simple Purpose
In the first semester of junior year, the last evening self-study session ended.
Song Sheng packed his bag. His leg had already recovered, except for a metal plate fixed inside, which would only be taken out next summer. Only then would he fully recover.
He was cautious and didn't dare to run too hard.
Only the strength of his upper body was intact.
Song Sheng decided that during the winter break, he would go to the gym to train well. Study was important, but physical fitness had to keep up. It was his reliance, and only then would he live up to the name of a strong person.
As long as he was strong enough, he could knock down classmates in his class with a single punch, earning their admiration.

Before he left, Song Sheng glanced down at Wu Xiaoqi.
Wu Xiaoqi was leaning against the wall looking at his cellphone, and without even seeing the content, Song Sheng knew what Wu Xiaoqi was watching: a basketball game.
Wu Xiaoqi often watched during class, and his various reactions of either excited breathing or sighs of relief expressed his shock or dismay or cheers, which drove Song Sheng crazy to the point of being unable to study!
If it wasn't for Wu Xiaoqi's past feats, Song Sheng would have beaten him up a long time ago!
Watching basketball was one thing, but Wu Xiaoqi also liked to sleep during class, and the most outrageous part was, Wu Xiaoqi drooled in his sleep. Once, his drool ran down the desk and onto his book.
Song Sheng was furious to the extreme and almost tore up the book!
All that was still bearable, but what truly got on Song Sheng's nerves was Wu Xiaoqi's singing in class. If it hadn't been for Wu Xiaoqi's past exploits, he really would have beaten him up by now!
The most unforgettable thing for Song Sheng was the song Wu Xiaoqi sang in class. Rumor had it that Wu Xiaoqi had spent two and a half months composing the lyrics and music by himself for that song about basketball, dance, and love.
Wu Xiaoqi's singing was one thing, but the real issue was that the song was particularly catchy, and Wu Xiaoqi's singing talent was also quite... catchy, to put it one way.
Once, Song Sheng was doing an exam paper and Wu Xiaoqi suddenly started singing. Song Sheng couldn't resist and found himself humming along for more than ten minutes.
Then, when Wu Xiaoqi found out, he looked at Song Sheng with surprise and sang even more vigorously, clutching a basketball and singing about his dreams. He was waiting for next year's school cultural arts festival to perform his basketball song and dance in front of the whole school.
You want to perform something about your damn horse!
You horseless thing!
Song Sheng's feet pressed against the classroom floor, as the unbearable memories played in a loop inside his head.
He felt that if he continued to interact with Wu Xiaoqi, he would lose the demeanor of a strong person. Thankfully, the final exams had arrived, and next semester, he would finally be able to change to a new seat.
These little incidents were nothing but a mere speck in his glorious life.
It didn't matter, he was leaving this place.
Trash like Wu Xiaoqi could only stay in this corner.
A malicious smile couldn't help but creep across Song Sheng's face. Next semester, he would see the next unlucky soul who would have to sit with Wu Xiaoqi!
Thinking of all this, Song Sheng's smile grew even wider as he carried his heavy backpack and walked away with the stride of a strong person.
He passed through the noisy class, from the back row to the front, like stepping into a bright future.
...
January 15th, the first day of exams.
Exam Room One, Experimental Class 1.
Jiang Ning and Xue Yuantong had just entered the exam room when they saw Ma Shicheng, sitting at exam seat number 2, excitedly playing a game, with Wang Longlong cheering him on.
"Brother Ma, that was slick!"
"Brother Ma's moves are legendary!"
Along the aisle next to exam seat number 2, a boy of average height and average appearance was standing there, chewing gum.
He was Du Chuan, a high exam scorer hired by the headmaster of Fourth Middle School for a hefty fee.
Unfortunately, in the last monthly exam, he had suffered a Waterloo, ranking only second in the whole school.
Today, his exam seat was bought by a boy from Class Eight for the price of a Stride gum, for just twenty minutes.
"Buddy, time's up, do you want to extend?" Du Chuan's gum had lost its flavor.
Ma Shicheng looked around and saw that most of the students from Class 1 had arrived. He put away his phone:
"Had enough fun this morning, I'll continue in the afternoon. Let's go, Longlong, we're out of here."
He greeted Jiang Ning again and turned to leave Experimental Class 1.
"This brother." Du Chuan felt a bit regretful; he had hoped to earn another piece of chewing gum.
At this moment, a tall and handsome boy walked into the classroom. Students at the examination site looked up to see that it was Zhuang Jianhui.
Following him was a chubby figure, Lin Zida, who always had a smile on his face.
As for the girl at the end, she was the one everyone was paying attention to. She was Ding Shuyan, who now stood at the classroom door, her youthful silhouette curved gracefully, her face so pretty she seemed out of place with the entire examination room number one.
Even the boys from Class 1 couldn't help but be dazzled when they saw her. Many looked forward to seeing what style Ding Shuyan would appear in each day, as if with every change of her clothes, the world gained a new surprise.
Ding Shuyan walked into the classroom as usual. Her gaze was indifferent, not lingering on anyone, including Jiang Ning in seat number four.
Since she transferred to Fourth Middle School, she had never greeted Jiang Ning, acting as if she didn't know him, which, in fact, she didn't.
Ding Shuyan had anticipated being in the same exam room. She still pretended as if nothing was happening.
Ding Shuyan performed excellently, hiding her emotions well; no one could guess what she was thinking.
Suddenly, there was a curse from the back of the classroom:
"Where the hell is my 3DS game? Who took it?"
The smile disappeared from Lin Zida's face, replaced with a look of panic and anger.
Last night, during the last period of evening self-study, he slept until the school was dismissed and only remembered on his way home that he had left his game console in the desk cavity. At that time, he wasn't worried. Leaving it there overnight should have been fine.
But now that he checked, his console was gone!
What kind of situation was this?
Lin Zida's family was extremely wealthy; his aunt Lin Han controlled billions in family investment shares. As a male member of the family, he was sure to inherit no less than his aunt in the future.
It wasn't a big deal to buy another game console, but it contained his game saves, the achievements he had painstakingly earned were in there. If that was lost, he couldn't get it back, negating all his hard work on those achievements.
Lin Zida was desperate, sweating profusely even in the dead of winter as he searched frantically to no avail.
Finally, the invigilator arrived, but he still hadn't found it.
Lin Zida was furious, swearing to himself that he would find the culprit and make them regret stealing his game console!
...
Three days of exams ended without any commotion.
In the last subject, Jiang Ning and Xue Yuantong handed in their papers twenty minutes early.
Seated in the third position, Ding Shuyan looked at their departing figures for just a moment before continuing to write on her exam paper.
Whether it was an illusion or not, her innate sixth sense suggested that she remain low-key during this time, not making any contact as if upsetting them would result in severe punishment.
This perfectly matched Ding Shuyan's philosophy; she was always patient.
Although Jiang Ning and Xue Yuantong handed in their papers early, they were not the very first to do so. In contrast, it was the lower-ranked examination rooms where most students handed in their papers ahead of time.
Guo Kunnan and Meng Gui walked arm in arm. Upon seeing Jiang Ning, Guo Kunnan called out:
"Jiang Ning, wanna go skating? I know a place that just opened an ice rink, it's cheap and fun!"
Guo Kunnan was a boarding student. Now that the exams were over and vacation had started, he wasn't in a hurry to go home and planned to enjoy a fun evening before taking the bus home the next morning.
"No thanks, you guys go ahead." Jiang Ning declined; he had plans to go eat hotpot with Xue Yuantong that night.
Meng Gui shook his hair, fixed in place with hair gel, feeling disappointed.
"Let's go, Brother Nan."
Guo Kunnan initially didn't want to go to the ice rink. There had been one in his town since he was in elementary school, and he was already bored of it.
Returning now felt outdated, like going to an arcade instead of an internet café—it was too retro.
But Meng Gui had persuaded him with just one line:
"The boss lady of the ice rink is smoking hot!"
Guo Kunnan was certainly not the vulgar type; as a high-schooler, he upheld high moral standards. He liked ice skating because it was good exercise, not because of some 'smoking hot' boss lady who would teach customers how to skate properly.
"Stop fussing with your crappy hairstyle, and let's go," Guo Kunnan urged.
