Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s-Chapter 2495 - 2431: Unwilling to Compromise
When he went in, he saw Old Meng leaning on the sofa, snoring in his sleep. He initially wanted not to wake him, but after coming out of the restroom, feeling relaxed and at ease, he unconsciously walked a bit heavier as he made his way back to the living room.
Perhaps it was because his footsteps were so unfamiliar, or maybe Old Meng had just reached the time to wake naturally, that he was instantly startled awake.
"Who is it!"
Director Wei stopped in his tracks.
"Old Meng, I’m sorry to have disturbed you."
Old Meng sat up, looked intently, and realized it was Director Wei. He was taken aback.
"Director Wei? Are you here to..."
Search the house?
Has someone reported the Meng Family for something?
Has Director Wei come to conduct a personal search?
The surprise was no trivial matter for Old Meng, and he jumped up from the sofa in shock.
"No, no, it’s a misunderstanding, Old Meng." Director Wei felt a bit embarrassed. This truly was a misunderstanding. "I, Wei, am here to see Officer Meng and Xiao Chiang."
"Did something happen to them?" Old Meng couldn’t relax at all, his face slightly changing color.
Hearing the noise inside, Meng Xinian and Chiang Xiao quickly came in.
"Grandpa, nothing’s wrong with us. Director Wei is here as a guest." Chiang Xiao hastily explained.
Seeing Old Meng so startled that his face had changed, Chiang Xiao even thought Director Wei was quite intimidating, to be able to scare Old Meng like that just by showing up.
Indeed, a powerful presence.
Only after hearing Chiang Xiao’s words did Old Meng truly relax.
However, Director Wei coming specifically to visit was indeed rare; one hardly ever heard of him going to anyone’s home as a guest.
"Oh, so that’s it, I overreacted, haha, haha." Old Meng laughed a little awkwardly, quickly gesturing for Director Wei to sit down.
At this point, the sunlight outside shifted under the tree branches, so Chiang Xiao went to bring in the teapot and such.
"Have a seat, have a seat."
Old Meng, holding a blanket, went into the room, knowing they might have some things they wouldn’t want to say in front of him.
As for why Director Wei would come to the Meng Family to find the two of them, it didn’t surprise him at all. Director Wei was known for being very skillful in keeping tabs on people; knowing their whereabouts wasn’t difficult at all.
After he went into the room, Director Wei sat down and saw Chiang Xiao bringing in tea. His heart moved, and he said to Chiang Xiao: "Xiao Chiang, another two cups?"
Chiang Xiao chuckled, "Director Wei, the tea I have is good for digestion. If you drink more, you’ll feel very hungry."
Director Wei slightly raised his gaze, "Are you saying that my stomach felt better earlier because of the effects of your tea? Could there be something wrong with your tea that makes people have diarrhea after drinking it?"
This Director Wei is hard to fool.
Chiang Xiao replied, "Could Director Wei not discern whether he has diarrhea or not? Generally, if one’s health is good without any issues, drinking it won’t cause much of a sensation, perhaps just promoting appetite and easing the stomach. Someone like Director Wei should have been feeling unwell for quite some time, right?"
"You’re a painter, since when did you become a doctor?"
"I never claimed to be a doctor. Just, Director Wei forgot, I also often study with Grandpa Chen Baoshen, and, the effects of this tea have been verified by Grandpa Chen as well. If you don’t believe it, Director Wei, you can ask Grandpa Chen another time."
With Chen Baoshen’s name brought into the conversation, Director Wei truly had nothing to say.
"In this case, I guess your tea is worth the price then."
Chiang Xiao was not willing to compromise on this point at all.
