Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Unedited Chapter

Cheng Luiying was shocked as she had no idea on what to do. So she did the best thing she could do, she ran.

She left the investigation room in a panic.

"My daughter," Zhnag Jun yelled when she saw Cheng Luiying had left the investigation room in a rush.

"She will be fine, I will go get her," Xin Yi assured her before leaving the room also.

Fortunately, she had not gone too far and he was able to catch up with her.

"Yingying, wait a minute," he called her by her pet name and stopped in her tracks before turning to look at him numbly.

"Let’s go for a walk," he said to her once he caught up with her and she nodded lifelessly.

He sighed before they both walked out of the station.

Xin Yi did not say anything. He was waiting for her to speak because he knew she definitely had something to say.

"It is ironical, isn’t it?" She chuckled but one could hear the pain in her voice.

"I was not expecting it, the woman I had called mother my entire life is actually not my mom, my entire life is just like the dramas being acted on TV," she paused as she looked towards the sky.

Xin Yi paused also as he only folded his arms while staring at her.

"I should be happy she is not my mom, should I not? But I cannot help but feel betrayed, should I even have such a feeling?" She sniffed as eyes shimmered with tears.

Xin Yi sighed as he pulled her close to him. He wiped a tear which was on her right cheek and he shook his head.

"You do not need to cry, everything which had happened is not your fault and would never be your fault, what you should do now is acknowledge your parents, they must have been devastated when they thought you had died," Xin Yi advised and she breathed out through her nose.

"I am scared to face them," Cheng Luiying admitted and he chuckled.

"Why are you laughing?" She looked at him and was puzzled as why he was laughing.

"Because I am surprised, you have met with Mrs Zhang previously, you have interacted with her often, so why then are you scared?" He questioned with folded arms, as he looked at her with an amusing smile.

She averted his gaze as she lowered her head.

"That is a different case, I was not aware that she was my.. mother," she found it hard to say the word ’mother.’

"I only considered her to be my mentor, she was the one who wore my handcraft at first, so it comes as a suprise to know she is my mother," she explained to him and he nodded, understanding what she meant.

"But she is totally different from what you expected her to be, she is more than your mentor, she is your mother, you have to make her happy, make yourself happy because your happiness lies in hers," Xin Yi patiently advised.

"But anyways, I will always support you in whatever decision you make," he beamed.

"I know you will, which is why I love you," it was rare for Cheng Luiying to express and admit to loving him, this came as an huge surprise to him but he chuckled and flicked her forehead.

"I love you too, now, are you ready to officially meet your parents?" He inquired.

She took deep breaths in before nodding.

The both of them walked back to the station, just in time to see the Zhang couple stepping out.

The two groups stopped in their tracks immediately.

Mrs Zhang looked at her daughter and tears slipped down her cheeks.

She took slow steps towards her and held her cheeks.

"My daughter," she whispered and tears fell from both their eyes.

"I had thought you died, I even thought I had given birth to dead boy, but it turns out it was a girl and you are alive," Mrs Zhang traced every contour of her face.

"I never expected you to be my mother," Cheng Luiying whispered as she held her mom’s hands.

"I will give you the recognition you deserve, hubby look, our daughter is very beautiful, isn’t she?" Mrs Zhang asked with a smile.

"She really is beautiful, I believe your siblings will be happy once they find out that our child, their sister is alive," Mr Zhang chortled with happiness evident in his eyes.

*Li Qiang’s Mansion*

Xin Yan was still unconscious. Li Qiang and Li Chuxi were not in the room as they went to have lunch. They had not had anything to eat.

Xin Yan who was still unconscious was having a nightmare.

She dreamt about many things and it felt like those experiences were replayed in front of her.

She dreamt about when she first met Yuan Renshu. It was one of the best days of her life, but thinking about it, she felt she was quite foolish.

She also dreamt about how she had her skins burnt in her previous life.

That fateful day, Xin Yan had gotten a call from Jiang Lanfen.

Jiang Lanfen had informed her that she was in some sort of trouble. And Xin Yan who valued friendship, rushed out to save her friend thinking she was in a big trouble.

The address which Jiang Lanfen had given her was one of a burning building.

When Xin Yan arrived, she was surprised to see the burning building.

She frowned. What could Jiang Lanfen be doing in such a building?

She did not think too much before she walked into the building. What was paramount for her was to save her friend.

After she walked into the building, she was careful to evade the fire since it had no spread to a large area.

"Jiang Lanfen, Lanfen," she had called out to her in a loud voice.

She walked deeper into the building while looking for Jiang Lanfen, even with the heat.

She continue calling out to her but she did not hear a response. She was beginning to get exhausted.

Suddenly, she heard a loud noise from above her head and she looked up. A plank which was covered in fire was about to fall on her.

She stood rooted in her position, the fear was palpable in her eyes as her face and entire body turned pale.

Due to the shock, she was unable to move away and the plank finally fell on her, burning her skin heavily.

"No!" Xin Yan woke up screaming as she sat up on her bed, holding her chest which was beating heavily.

She looked around and she sighed when she found out she was in her room in her home.

She breathed out in relief when she realised that it was all a dream.

She then recalled that she was out for an outing with her family, but why was she home at the moment.

She left the bed and looked around before the memories of what happened previously came rushing to her brain.

She held her chest. It seemed she was about to be kidnapped. She felt at peace knowing that she was safe.

Her stomach suddenly grumbled which made her aware that she had not had lunch. She exited her room, having an inkling that her husband and kid would be in the dining room.

When she approached the dining, Li Chuxi was the first one to notice her and she called out to her with an excited voice.

She was about to leaving her seat but Xin Yan shook her head, indicating for her to not do so.

The little girl sat obediently in her seat as she watched her mom approach the table.

Once she was seated, the father-daughter duo began to fuss over her health and she face-palmed helplessly.

"That is enough, I am fine," she finally banged her hands on the table shutting the both of them up as they looked at her with puffy eyes.

She sighed seeing their looks, "I am really okay, I promise you, you do not need to worry about me," she explained to them as she hoped they would listen to her.

"You do not look fine to me, your face seems pale and your eyes look dull," Li Chuxi pointed out, shocking Xin Yan who could only stare at her with parted lips.

"Are you sure of what you are saying?" Xin Yan asked as she felt her face.

"Yes mom, how do you feel now, actually, do tell us what happened, you just followed the man without saying anything, we were both worried about you, but fortunately, dad was able to find you and save you," Li Chuxi chattered away.

Xin Yan frowned. She recalled just looking into his eyes, that was it. It felt as though she had been hypnotised at that particular time.

"What did you feel at that time?" Li Qiang asked, he had a feeling that it was not ordinary.
