Chapter 560: But I never reach the end of the vision

Roseline had no idea how she managed to reach her room when her mind was still trapped in the echoes of Norma’s unyielding words.

Norma had challenged her openly, without hesitation or fear. The memory of that confrontation continued to replay in Roseline’s mind, refusing to let her rest. The calm confidence in Norma’s voice had unsettled her far more than any direct threat could have.

She had not only confronted Roseline but had made it clear that she knew more than she should.

That thought alone made Roseline’s chest tighten.

Norma had the power to expose her, and that possibility left Roseline restless.

A part of her tried to reassure herself that everything had been handled carefully in the past. Back then, she had made sure no evidence was left behind. Every detail had been taken care of with precision. There was nothing that could directly point fingers at her.

At least that was what she kept telling herself.

As for Collin, Roseline believed she still had control over that situation. As long as he continued to get what he wanted, he would remain loyal to her. Their arrangement had worked well enough so far.

That thought gave her a small sense of comfort.

After taking a shower and slipping into her nightgown, Roseline walked toward the bed and lay down beside Hugo, who was already asleep.

The room was dark and quiet, yet her mind refused to settle.

Norma had become powerful over the years. She was no longer the powerless girl Roseline had once known. The woman who stood before her now was confident, calculating, and dangerous in ways Roseline had not expected.

If Norma truly decided to act, it would not take much for her to crush Roseline completely.

But losing everything she had built was something Roseline could never accept.

Especially not when she remembered the past.

Once upon a time, Norma had been nothing more than a helpless girl. A girl Roseline had easily forced out of the country without resistance.

Roseline had believed that Chapter of her life was long buried.

Yet now Norma had returned.

And that terrified her.

"Why aren’t you sleeping?"

The sudden voice beside her jolted Roseline out of her thoughts.

Her heart pounded violently as she turned her head.

Hugo was staring at her, his eyes wide open in the dim light.

"I... I thought you were asleep," she stuttered, wiping the sweat that had gathered on her forehead as she slowly pushed herself up to sit.

Hugo followed her movement and turned on the side lamp. The soft yellow light filled the room, revealing the uneasiness on her face.

"Is everything okay?" he asked, studying her carefully. "You look scared."

Roseline’s lips trembled for a moment before she forced out an awkward laugh.

"Scared? Of what?" she said quickly. "You are imagining things. Go back to sleep, Hugo."

She tried to brush off the conversation, hoping he would not press further.

But Hugo reached out and touched her forehead.

Roseline instantly froze.

"Then why are you sweating, Roseline?" he asked, confusion evident in his voice.

For a brief moment she had no answer.

"Are you sure you are okay?" he continued. "We can call the doctor if you are not feeling well."

The mention of concern should have comforted her, yet Roseline felt even more uneasy.

Norma’s warning flashed through her mind again.

Despite telling herself again and again that Norma could do nothing, the unease inside her refused to disappear.

"N-No," she said quickly. "Everything is fine."

This time she forced a convincing smile, hoping Hugo would accept her answer and stop asking questions.

Hugo watched her for a moment, clearly unconvinced.

"Okay," he finally said. "If that’s what you say."

Even though he agreed, the look in his eyes carried doubt.

He switched off the lamp and lay back down.

Roseline remained sitting for a moment, staring at him quietly.

She watched until his breathing became steady again and he appeared to have fallen asleep.

Only then did she slowly lie down beside him.

Her eyes remained open in the darkness.

Norma might have returned to their lives unexpectedly, hiding behind a facade she had failed to recognize earlier.

But Roseline was not the kind of woman who would allow herself to be cornered.

Not now.

Not ever.

Just like before, she would make sure Norma could not do anything against her.

Even if she had to take drastic steps again.

’I will make sure of it.’

With that determined thought, Roseline finally closed her eyes, forcing her restless mind to quiet down.

Meanwhile, inside a bedroom of the Clafford mansion, Daniel was once again trapped in a nightmare.

The dream felt painfully real.

So real that when he suddenly woke up, he jolted upright with a violent gasp.

His chest rose and fell rapidly as if he had just escaped death itself.

"Daniel!"

Anna woke up instantly at his sudden movement.

Her voice was filled with concern as she sat up beside him.

But before she could even understand what had happened, Daniel turned toward her and pulled her into a tight embrace.

His arms wrapped around her as if he was afraid she might disappear.

"I saw that dream again..." Daniel muttered hoarsely.

His breathing was still uneven, and the tremor in his voice revealed how deeply the nightmare had shaken him.

Anna could feel the tension in his body.

The way he held her made it clear that the dream had affected him more than he was willing to admit.

"Daniel, look at me," Anna said gently.

She placed her hands on his shoulders and tried to guide him to face her.

"You need to calm down and breathe, okay?" she continued softly. "Just follow what I say."

Daniel nodded faintly.

Anna spoke slowly, guiding him through steady breaths.

"Breathe in... slowly," she said.

Daniel followed her instruction.

"And breathe out."

His breathing gradually slowed.

She continued guiding him until the panic slowly faded from his expression.

It felt strange for Anna to be the one comforting him.

For most of her life, she had been the one haunted by fear.

Her childhood had left deep scars that once triggered endless anxiety and sleepless nights.

There had been a time when nightmares ruled her nights.

But somehow those fears had disappeared.

It was as if those painful memories had finally loosened their grip on her.

Now she could stand strong for him.

"Feeling better?" she asked softly.

Daniel nodded.

The tension in his shoulders had eased slightly.

Without hesitation, Anna wrapped her arms around him again, holding him close.

"You scared me, Daniel," she whispered.

Daniel did not respond immediately.

Instead, he buried his face in the crook of her neck and breathed in her familiar scent.

The warmth of her presence slowly grounded him.

Anna gently stroked his back, letting him stay like that for as long as he needed.

Neither of them knew how much time passed.

The room remained silent except for the sound of their breathing.

Eventually Daniel lifted his head slightly.

Though the nightmare had faded, the unease still lingered in his eyes.

Anna noticed it but chose not to push him.

Some fears took time to speak aloud.

So she simply stayed close to him.

The couple remained in each other’s arms, drawing comfort from the quiet closeness they shared.

But sleep had already slipped far away from them.

"Feeling better now?"

Anna handed Daniel a glass of water. He took it from her and drank slowly, the cool liquid helping to ease the dryness in his throat. After finishing a few sips, he placed the glass on the bedside table and nodded.

"Yes... a little."

Anna watched him carefully for a moment. She could still see the lingering tension in his expression, but at least his breathing had returned to normal.

Once she realized Daniel had calmed down enough to speak, she gently brought up the question that had been on her mind.

"What dream were you talking about earlier?" she asked softly.

Daniel inhaled deeply before answering, as if he needed to gather his thoughts first.

"It was the vision I saw during my last session at Jason’s clinic," he said slowly. "But the problem is I could never fully understand it."

He paused briefly, his brows knitting together as he tried to recall the details.

"In the dream, I felt like I was drowning," he continued. "It was as if I was trapped underwater and my lungs were slowly filling with it. I could feel the air leaving my body no matter how hard I tried to breathe."

Anna listened carefully, her heart tightening slightly as she remembered how violently he had woken up.

She could not deny it.

The way he had been struggling in his sleep truly looked like someone fighting for air. His body had been tossing and turning on the bed as if he was trying desperately to escape something invisible. For a moment she had even thought he was choking.

As Daniel spoke, the memory of that moment became even clearer in her mind.

"But I never reach the end of the vision," Daniel continued quietly. "Every time it happens, I wake up before I can understand what it means."

Anna remained silent for a moment, absorbing his words.

However, as she thought about it more deeply, a possibility formed in her mind.

She could not help but connect his dream to the story Katherine had once told her.

The story about Daniel’s death.

That memory suddenly made the meaning of the dream feel painfully obvious.

Anna looked at him with a thoughtful expression.

Perhaps the dream was not just a random nightmare.

Perhaps it was a fragment of the moment he had died.
