Chapter 565: You probably won’t want to know, Daniel

Roseline had spent years convincing herself that everything from that time had been handled perfectly. No evidence. No witnesses. No loose ends that could point back to her.

At least, that was what she had always believed.

But the news of the case being reopened shattered the calm she had carefully built around herself.

Her heartbeat grew heavier with every passing second.

Hugo, meanwhile, remained focused on the information in the document.

"This is strange," he muttered thoughtfully. "After all these years, suddenly reopening the case..."

He lifted his gaze toward Roseline.

"Why now?"

Roseline quickly composed herself when she noticed him looking at her.

She forced her expression to return to normal, though the unease inside her refused to settle.

"Yes... it is strange," she replied carefully.

But her mind was already racing ahead.

If Daniel was truly behind this decision, then it meant he had begun to suspect something.

And if Norma supported him...

Then the past she had worked so hard to bury might soon rise to the surface again.

I need to talk to Collin about this. I cannot let them get to me.

The thought rushed through Roseline’s mind as panic slowly crept into her chest.

Hugo, who had been quietly pondering over the news, suddenly noticed her standing up.

"I will be upstairs in our room," Roseline said quickly.

Without waiting for a response, she turned on her heels and walked away.

Hugo remained seated, watching her leave with clear confusion on his face.

Her sudden reaction had caught him off guard.

For a moment, he continued staring in the direction she had gone, trying to understand why the news had unsettled her so much.

Then his eyes dropped back to the paper still in his hand.

His thoughts slowly drifted to the family members of George.

In truth, he did not know much about them.

The only person he had ever known briefly was George’s wife. Someone he met during their wedding reception.

Other than that, the rest of the family remained unfamiliar to him.

Which made the sudden reopening of the case feel even stranger.

’Who exactly had decided to take this step after so many years?’

Meanwhile, Roseline hurried into her room and shut the door behind her. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Her calm composure vanished the moment she was alone.

She quickly grabbed her phone from the bedside table and dialed Collin’s number.

Her fingers felt slightly unsteady as the bell continued to ring.

Once. Twice. Three times.

Roseline’s anxiety grew with every second. At first, Collin did not answer.

For a brief moment, she wondered if he was deliberately ignoring the call, which only made her more restless.

Just as she was about to hang up and try again, the line finally connected.

"Hello?" Collin’s voice came through casually.

Roseline immediately spoke.

"Daniel has reopened his father’s case."

The words rushed out of her mouth before she could fully control herself.

Her voice almost rose too loudly, but she quickly stopped herself, lowering her tone.

The last thing she wanted right now was for someone to overhear her.

Drawing unnecessary attention was the worst possible mistake she could make at this moment.

Her grip tightened around the phone as she waited for Collin’s response.

"What are you going to do, Roseline?"

Collin’s calm voice came through the phone, and the question instantly stunned her.

For a moment, Roseline could not believe what she had just heard.

"What do you mean what am I going to do?" she snapped, her frustration rising. "It’s us, damn it. Don’t forget that you were equally involved, Collin."

Her voice carried both anger and panic.

Right now, she was too shaken to think clearly. The news of Daniel reopening the case had thrown her mind into complete chaos.

How could Collin even think of putting the responsibility on her?

Everything that had happened back then had not been her doing alone. Every scheme, every calculated move, every malicious step they had taken had been planned and executed together.

They were both responsible.

Collin remained silent for a moment on the other end of the line.

He understood Roseline’s agitation, but he also knew she was not thinking rationally right now. Panic would only make things worse.

"I want to meet you now," Roseline suddenly said.

Her abrupt demand caught Collin’s attention.

"Not now, Roseline," he replied evenly. "I am busy with something at the moment."

His refusal only made her feel more restless.

Roseline needed a plan, and in her current state she could barely organize her thoughts. Collin was the only person she could rely on to think strategically when things became complicated.

Without him, she felt completely unprepared to deal with the situation.

"Fine," she said after a moment, forcing herself to calm down. "But meet me once you are done with whatever you are doing, Collin."

There was a brief pause before Collin hummed in acknowledgment.

"Alright," he said.

The call ended soon after, leaving Roseline standing in the middle of her room with the phone still in her hand, her mind racing with fear and uncertainty.

Later that evening, Anna finished her shoot and was getting ready to leave when her phone rang.

It was Daniel.

He told her he was already waiting outside.

So instead of leaving with Betty and Kevin as she usually did, Anna walked out to meet him.

Daniel was leaning against the car when he saw her approaching. After greeting her, the two of them got into the car.

As Daniel started the engine, his eyes briefly drifted toward the studio entrance.

Outside, Betty was laughing loudly while teasing Kevin about something. Kevin, on the other hand, looked completely annoyed as he tried to argue back.

Daniel watched the scene for a moment before speaking.

"Why does Kevin always look like he’s about to explode?" he asked, slightly puzzled.

Anna glanced out the window and smiled.

"That’s because we recently discovered a secret he had been hiding from all of us until now," she replied.

Daniel raised a brow.

"And what might that secret be?" he asked, not entirely sure why he suddenly felt curious about it.

Anna fastened her seatbelt and hesitated for a moment, chewing lightly on her lip.

"You probably won’t want to know, Daniel," she said slowly. "If Kevin finds out I told you, he will never spare me."

Her hesitation only made Daniel frown.

Instead of dropping the topic, he felt slightly irritated.

Why should Anna feel afraid of Kevin over something like that?

"If he is going to cause you trouble for telling me something, then I definitely want to know what it is," Daniel said firmly. "That way I can make sure he doesn’t bother you."

Anna turned toward him in disbelief.

"You are not going to do anything to him," she said quickly.

Daniel glanced at her with a calm but challenging look.

"Try me."

His tone carried quiet determination.

No one was allowed to threaten or trouble his wife. If someone tried, Daniel would make sure to deal with it personally.

Anna stared at him for a second before sighing.

"Fine," she said. "I will tell you."

She paused and then added cautiously, "But promise me you will stay calm."

Daniel’s frown deepened as he blinked at her in confusion.

"Why would I not be calm?" he asked.

Anna looked at him awkwardly.

"Because the secret he revealed... involves you," she admitted.

Daniel continued staring at her, clearly not understanding what she meant.

Anna took a breath before finally saying it.

"Kevin had a crush on you, Daniel."
