Rebirth: The Universe's Hidden Heiress-Chapter 69: Calm Down
Chapter 69: Calm Down
Yuka closed the chat interface with Kenji, then turned to Kishi and said, "To avoid future troubles, we need to put on a play."
Kishi was momentarily stunned, then agreed, "Okay."
Black One was waiting outside, restless.
He had considered many outcomes but never expected Phyxier to walk out so leisurely, while his boss sat by the table, watching her leave in a peaceful scene.
Yuka had put her helmet back on. She patted Black One on the shoulder and said, "Work hard from now on, no slacking off at work."
Black One was puzzled.
"You’re not my boss!" Black One exclaimed.
Yuka shrugged. "I will be soon."
Before Black One could grasp the meaning of Yuka’s words, she had already walked down the stairs.
As he was about to follow her, a commotion erupted downstairs. Another man in a black suit rushed upstairs, shouting, "Ma’am, the Alliance Army is here. And I don’t think it’s about business!"
Black One was startled. He turned to Kishi and said, "Ma’am, we..."
"It’s fine," Kishi said calmly. "We still have transactions on the interstellarnet. Go now and tell the others to head to our backup villas. The black market won’t fall."
Black One nodded and quickly moved the remaining people.
While they were moving, Kenji and the Alliance Army team had already stormed the black market. People in the hall were scattering, hastily gathering their belongings. Those in the upstairs auction room also ran down in panic but were stopped by the Alliance Army at the door.
"Don’t move!" Kenji said coldly. "The operator of this place is suspected of violating Alliance laws. The Alliance Army is here to arrest her. Everyone step aside."
Everyone was stunned by Kenji’s presence, immediately quieting down, hiding their trade items, and watching anxiously as Kenji and his team moved upstairs.
Yuka, who happened to be on the second floor, moved closer to the edge of the stairs, making way for Kenji to go up.
A few minutes later, Kenji came down with a disheveled woman and put her in a Lev. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Kenji’s subordinates stood at the door with the Alliance Army, blocking the curious gazes of the crowd and scanning them threateningly until some began to sweat, then said, "It’s none of your business now, leave."
The crowd dispersed quickly, and the building soon became empty.
Yuka also left with the crowd. Kenji instructed the Alliance Army to leave with the prisoners. After they drove away, he approached Yuka and asked, "Need a ride?"
"Thanks," Yuka replied, turning to follow Kenji to a car hidden behind the building.
In the back seat, Kishi sincerely thanked Yuka, "Thank you."
"It’s nothing," Yuka dismissed with a wave of her hand. "Thank Admiral Kuba instead. He thought ahead. To spare you from constantly fearing retaliation from space pirates, he found a death row inmate from the Alliance prison to replace you in the car."
"Soon, the Lev carrying ’you’ will crash, and ’you’ will be burned beyond recognition," Yuka explained. "Admiral Kuba also picked someone from the list of undercover agents you provided and arranged for them to be in a car following that one. I believe they’ll thoroughly report your ’death’ to the space pirate leader."
Kishi noticed Kenji’s normally cold expression soften slightly as Yuka spoke.
"Thanks to Admiral Kuba," Kishi, believing herself to be no less attractive than Yuka, gave a flirtatious smile with her husky voice.
To her surprise, Kenji’s smile faded immediately. He didn’t spare Kishi a glance, responding coldly, "It was just a transaction, part of the job."
Kishi’s smile froze, realizing her flirtation was wasted.
Yuka, sitting in the front passenger seat, turned to Kishi, "Oh, I forgot to give you my home’s password."
She adjusted the security settings of her house on the opticomputer and had Kishi set up facial recognition.
The butler muttered softly, "I hope she doesn’t throw away my ’Lady’s Handbook’ on the table. It’s a limited edition."
Yuka: ...
Kishi noticed Kenji occasionally glanced at Yuka, even if indirectly, his peripheral vision always lingering on her.
She raised an eyebrow thoughtfully.
Yuka got out of the car at Central Square, while Kenji and Kishi switched vehicles to continue towards the outskirts of the city, planning to drop Kishi off at an opportune time outside Capital Octoxis.
As soon as Yuka left, the air in the car turned chilly.
Kishi, initially uninterested in talking to Kenji, was intrigued by his different attitude towards Yuka. To test her hypothesis, she deliberately sat in a way to showcase her long legs as she entered the Lev.
Before she could stretch her hands towards Kenji’s waist, intending to embrace him, Kenji shot her a cold look, "Sit properly if you don’t want to be thrown out."
Kishi pursed her lips, changed her sitting position, and fastened the seat belt, firmly holding the safety rail.
Just before they set off, Kishi suddenly asked, "Admiral Kuba, do you have any feelings for Yuka?"
With a screech of brakes, Kenji adjusted his helmet and quickly replied, "No."
In the back seat, Kishi almost flew out of her seat from the sudden stop. She steadied herself and scoffed, "Hmph," while thinking to herself, ’If you have no feelings, then why the panic and nearly crashing the car?’
On the way to the small planet, Kishi remained silent. She had already discerned Kenji’s feelings from his behavior and sensed his underlying contemplation. However, she didn’t want to awaken him to his own feelings; she decided to let him realize his feelings for Yuka on his own.
She couldn’t wait to see this handsome military man suffer in silence, jealous and tormented for not admitting his feelings.
’He deserves it!’ This was Kishi’s thought after being carelessly dropped off by Kenji.
Meanwhile, Black One received Kishi’s final message, "Phyxier will take over the black market now. I am safe, don’t worry."
Yuka also received the new black market address, the trading website, and some internal information from Kishi, which she forwarded to Hideki, leaving the business details to him.
Scrolling through the messages, Yuka found one last piece of information from Kishi.
Kishi: This notebook was found in the black market. The seller claimed it belonged to their father who worked at the Alliance Science Academy. The physical copy is with Black One, and here is the digital version. All the best, goodbye.
Yuka mentally bid farewell and opened the file sent by Kishi.
The butler peeked from the screen, helping Yuka to extract the documents. Yuka opened the file to see a title:
Insectoid Revival and Domestication Plan
Frowning, Yuka continued to read, curious about the author.
Author: Johan Humphrey.
Yuka paused, unsure, and asked the butler, "This Humphrey, he’s not the same person as the current dean of the Alliance Science Academy, is he?"
The butler compared the handwriting in the document with what was available on the interstellarnet and replied, "It’s the same person."
Yuka sensed the upcoming content wouldn’t be pleasant. She set aside other thoughts and focused on reading further:
Longevity has been an eternal pursuit of humanity. In my study of the growing Queen, I found that it possesses numerous regenerative cells, continuously rejuvenating, allowing the Queen to live for hundreds of years.
I propose allowing the Queen to mature, extracting its complete cells for research, and then injecting the extract into humans for experimentation, granting them immortality.
Further research on other insects produced by the Queen is needed to find ways to control the insectoids, domesticate them, and utilize them for humanity. Leveraging their formidable combat abilities and unique behavior patterns can greatly enrich human society.
Yuka was at a loss for words after knowing this wildly imaginative guy.
The inherent conflict between insectoids and humans was unavoidable – insectoids naturally obeyed the Queen and their diet consisted solely of humans, making any reconciliation impossible.
Back when Yuka was in her last life, the people in that world had attempted to feed the insectoids alternative foods like cattle and sheep, but the insectoids were only interested in humans. Those people even tried to invade the insectoids’ consciousness to control their thoughts, but each attempt was met with the overwhelming psychic force of the Queen, leaving the intruders mentally shattered and senseless.
Continuing through the document, Yuka unsurprisingly found the then-dean’s evaluation of Humphrey’s proposal:
Rejected, too risky, unfeasible.
However, Humphrey didn’t give up. In subsequent pages, he detailed how he secretly experimented on orphans from some small planets using extracts from the Queen, observing their reactions. The only survivor of these experiments was a boy named Kuba Kenji. Humphrey was the culprit Nori had condemned in Yuka’s coma dream.
Turning the page, Yuka read notes written by Humphrey after being reported by Nori. At that time, Humphrey was facing expulsion from the Alliance Science Academy.
They don’t understand! My experiments are humanity’s greatest endeavor. Yes, some will sacrifice, but it’s a worthy sacrifice for science.
Nori is just an assistant to the dean, young, soon to be the vice-dean, and then the dean, but he’s an arrogant fool. No one likes him except the dean! How dare he condemn my work!
It’s absurd, and even the dean agrees with him. They want to expel me, but I won’t let them. Nori destroyed everything for me; I will destroy everything for him!
Yuka’s frown deepened as she read on.
I made it! I released all the revived Queens from the lab. The dean took a Queen and left the Alliance. He foolishly self-destructed in space. Hahaha... Nori says he’ll expose me, but how? No one will believe him, and I am the one they trust.
I will watch him get expelled, leaving with all his belongings.
Stardate 209, Recorder: Johan Humphrey.
Yuka’s fists tightened, her finger knuckles cracking.
The butler trembled, "Master, please, no rash actions."
Yuka sneered, "I’m fine..."
The butler: ...’Really? Because the lamppost next to you is starting to bend.’
