Reborn as a Hatrack in the Mystical Land-Chapter 841 - 91: Encountering Fugitives
The two Dark Practitioners were in tattered clothes, with unkempt hair and filthy faces; one even had a rusty shackle on his foot.
Shalman immediately recognized their identities—they were fugitives.
These were fugitives from the Four Symbols City or other Dimensional Boundary Cities who had fled into the Godfall Ruins.
These two Dark Practitioners had sallow complexions, though not of the Demon Clan; their brows bore a thick aura of malevolent energy.
Those who enter the Godfall Ruins long go without fresh food and water, surviving by hunting Demon Beasts and consuming their blood. Over time, they become poisoned by this malevolent energy, turning half-demonic and prone to violent outbursts.
These two were very dangerous.
Shalman’s heart was on alert, and Thunder Snake sensed its owner’s intentions, immediately raising its head, covered in hard scales, trying to intimidate them to stay away.
The two Dark Practitioners also noticed the Merit Ring on Shalman’s hand. Realizing she was from the Four Symbols City, they were initially startled, but upon closer inspection, they found this female Dark Practitioner to be of mediocre cultivation, only at Dark Earth level. It seemed she was separated from her companions, alone in the Firethorn Shrub.
Except for the large snake by her side, she had no other companions, appearing to be just a clumsy Beastmaster.
The two, having been in the Godfall Ruins for a long time without female company, were emboldened, their lust stirred by the sight of a beauty like Shalman. They leered as they slowly approached her, "Little beauty, why are you so scared? Let us brothers take care of you."
"Thunder Snake," Shalman hesitated not a bit. Her nearly two years as a mercenary had shaped her into an outstanding female mercenary capable of keeping a cool head even in such harsh conditions.
Thunder Snake opened its large mouth, body coiling, spitting a lightning bolt like an arrow at the Dark Practitioner approaching.
The man slyly smiled, leaping up as Dark Energy exploded, his body emitting a filthy black malevolent aura.
The other followed, his hands transforming into numerous deadly palm strikes targeting Thunder Snake’s vital head and other areas.
These two fugitives had been lurking in the Godfall Ruins for long. Though of average cultivation at Small Achievement of Dark Heavenly level, their seamless coordination, from training together since childhood in martial arts and Dark Skills, greatly surpassed others.
It was this harmonious coordination and skills that allowed them to survive sneakily in the Godfall Ruins.
Thunder Snake was merely an Eighth-Order Profound Beast and had been injured in the Firethorn Jungle. Under their entanglement, it quickly showed signs of defeat.
Their attacks were insidious, and Thunder Snake gradually grew weaker, its massive body swaying precariously.
Shalman’s face grew increasingly pale. The few Taming Rings in her hand had already been damaged in the initial wave of attacks against the Five-Colored Spider. The rings left were few.
As for the other rings on her finger, their power was not comparable to Thunder Snake. Should Thunder Snake fall... 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Recalling the lecherous glances of the two fugitives earlier, she shuddered.
Yet she couldn’t flee, couldn’t abandon Thunder Snake.
Just as Shalman was hesitant, amidst a crisis, shadows flitted across the sky above the Firethorn Shrub.
From afar, it seemed to be a swarm of bats from Godfall Ruins.
Upon closer look, the bats had ghastly green faces and tusks and didn’t fear sunlight, unlike typical bats that only operated in the dark.
These bats had thick fur, piercing eyes, with their fur and claws both sharp, and their rodent-like faces bore a pair of fangs, making them frightening.
They flew in coordinated formations, like a well-trained small combat squadron.
Especially prominent was the bat in the center, its glossy fur, with a thick cocoon armor on its belly, spread its wings as large as a medium-sized Sub-Asian Dragon.
On its forehead, an eye-catching Five-pointed Star mark, the symbol of a Dark Demon Master.
This bat swarm was evidently a group of contracted beasts bound by someone.
On the backs of the bats stood several Dark Practitioners.
One among them stood tall with a cold gaze, his black battle armor reflecting dazzling black under the blazing sun.
As they flew overhead, the fierce battle amidst the shrub forest naturally caught the attention of those on the horned bat.
Then a few black-armored Dark Practitioners by his side asked, "Captain, are those people from other teams below? Shall we intervene?"
Their implication was unclear whether they meant to assist or to kill and thus gain the corresponding Merit Ring.
These were members of the Martial Arts Team, led by Fa Xiaoyi.
When the Four Symbols Team was teleported into the Godfall Ruins, other teams, except for Yue Minzhi, arrived separately at different locations within the ruins.
The Martial Arts Team had the ill fortune of being teleported into a Green Horned Bat swarm’s lair.
Fortune and misfortune are intertwined.
It was also this Green Horned Bat swarm that gave the Martial Arts Team members an advantage absent in other teams within the Godfall Ruins.
To most, the countless Demon Beasts within the ruins were deadly, but to a Demon Summoner like Fa Xiaoyi, they meant an enormous Demon Beast army.
After sacrificing seven or eight lives, Fa Xiaoyi successfully controlled the Green Winged Bat King using summoning magic.
In the low-altitude region, with thousands of Green Bat Soldiers, the Bat King reigned supreme, and there was some food and fresh water left in the bat’s lair.
Especially since the Godfall Ruins had only two activity windows per day, at dawn and dusk, the Green Winged Bats were the best transport.
Fa Xiaoyi was now leading a few selected subordinates, seeking vital resources like food and water.
Due to time constraints, he planned to return the bat swarm to the lair within an hour, recuperate, then venture out again in the evening.
Fa Xiaoyi glanced coldly to get a clear view of the scene below.
"The Four Unlikes Team?! How did they get into the Godfall Ruins too? I recognize that woman, she’s from the July Mercenary Corps—a female Cultivator! She has a death wish, venturing alone into such a vast shrub forest?" The Martial Arts Team looked down on the Four Unlikes Team members.
These creatures, more contemptible than rats, dared to enter the ruins to grab war merits. Shameless.
That woman? She seems to be associated with Yue Jinghua.
To save or not to save?
Perhaps having the proud woman owe him a favor wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Fa Xiaoyi glanced again at the two men who had cornered Thunder Snake and were preparing to ambush Shalman, then said solemnly, "Kill the fugitives and earn the battle merits."
