Chapter 313: Meeting Colonel Alphonse

After Leon’s emotional reunion with his friend and after he paid his final respects to Rex, the others also expressed their emotion as they dropped their flowers and said a word or two to their friend.

Brad didn’t have much to say, he dropped his own flowers and simply basked in the emotion of the moment.

They spent more than 30 minutes in the cemetery, and only then did they leave after the months’ long separation from their friend.

And after that, the convoy led them straight to the front of Cell Tower 06 to meet the leader of the city who was popularly known as "The General".

...

Knock! Knock!

Gwen knocked on the door of the office in a polite manner.

A deep aged voice came out from inside immediately. "Come in".

Gwen pushed the door open and led them inside, and immediately, alongside the others Leon set his eyes on the leader of Canyon Hub.

Even without any interaction yet, the first thing that Leon felt was the immensity and slumbering density of the ADE of the Colonel.

Leon looked at his face; the Colonel also looked back at him.

Colonel Alphonse looked middle-aged but despite it, it was clear that this was a man that was already climbing far in age. It was also clear that this was a man who was still firmly in his physical prime.

The Colonel had sharp sky blue eyes and a sharp jawline with a stone-cold beardless chin, he also had grizzled white hair.

His face had wrinkles with a few blade scars marring it, showing his old age but there was no sign of excessive fat on his face. This was a man who clearly took extra care of his body, he was still as sharp as a knife.

He wore a cyan-colored military uniform.

For the first 2 seconds after his visitors entered his office, Colonel Alphonse ignored everybody as he simply stared at Leon. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Leon recognized the look in his sky blue eyes... respect?

The Colonel finally stood up and immediately extended his hand for Leon to shake. Leon took it with a smile, then he greeted. "It’s nice to finally meet you Colonel, I’ve heard a lot of things about you".

The Colonel immediately smiled. "I hope they’re all good things".

"Of course". Leon grinned.

From the focus of the greeting, it was clear that Leon was the main man and the rest understood as they took their places, settling down in the other lounge chairs in the office while Leon sat in the only chair directly facing the Colonel’s chair.

After the initial greeting, as they sat down, due to the emotions in the Colonel’s eyes, Leon didn’t rush into starting a conversation as sensitive to how he was feeling, he let him fully recover first.

When Colonel Alphonse finally got a grasp over his emotions, he chuckled and leaned back on his chair. "Few things can make me lose control of my emotions like this, but you’re one of them".

He looked at Leon. "I still can’t believe that I’m seeing you in the flesh".

"When Sir Garfield told me that you were coming, I couldn’t believe it," he sighed. "I had to reconfirm. It felt so surreal, and honestly, it still feels surreal".

Leaning back on his chair, he looked at the ceiling. "My only regret is that he didn’t have the chance to meet you before his death".

Leon smiled slightly. "Who’s he?"

"Sir Kai," the Colonel smiled. "He was my mentor. He taught me everything I know today, and he never stopped talking about you in all my years of knowing him". He didn’t care about the presence of the others currently in his office as he continued. "Honestly, your image in my head was that of a superhero".

"I never knew that you would be the same comrade that helped in my subordinate’s mission and almost died," he briefly looked at Talia.

"I still have a lot of questions, I have so many answers that I seek on behalf of my mentor but I know that there are certain things that I can’t know," he looked at Leon. "And I respect it".

Leon couldn’t react for some time and when he finally did, he smiled. "I didn’t know that you would be related to Kai either".

He sighed. "Honestly, the whole situation is so complicated".

"I understand," the Colonel nodded immediately, then he smiled again. "Please don’t feel like a stranger here. So long as I remain the leader of Canyon Hub, this city is your home".

"I want to give you the hospitality that my mentor never had the opportunity of giving you personally".

"Please explore the city," he pleaded in a sincere manner. "Enjoy yourself, I’m willing to fund every expenses that you and your crew incur".

Leon smiled. "Is that really necessary...?"

"Of course!" Colonel Alphonse said immediately in a serious manner. "For the memory of my mentor, this is very very important".

Leon shrugged. "Sure, if you insist".

Hearing that, Colonel Alphonse broke into a smile again, then he said. "I’m sorry about your friend, I read about what happened to him in the report of the Community G operation".

Leon nodded calmly. "What matters is that his death was not in vain, he died for a cause and thankfully, we were able to complete the mission with the help of his sacrifice".

Leon leaned back on his chair, then he asked. "What I want to know is this, do you have the identity of the one behind the Zmer gang’s slave trade?"

Hearing that, Talia and the others immediately perked up.

Colonel Alphonse thought carefully before he shook his head. "I’ve never really paid attention to the details of that operation. But since you asked, I’ll push all intelligence resources in Canyon Hub towards that".

"I’ll get you the answer you seek as soon as possible".

"The time frame?"

"Less than a day in ideal circumstances, 3 days at most at worst".

Leon smiled. "That’s all I want, thank you".

"You’re welcome," the Colonel grinned.

"Oh, one more thing". Leon raised his finger with a smile.

"What is it?"

Leon looked at the Colonel who was in his physical prime with a gleam in his eyes, then he said. "Can we spar?"
