Chapter 1222: Chapter 1222: A Pitiful Person Must Have a Detestable Side

The buzz surrounding the competition between Luo Qiao and Soukai lasted for a while before it finally cooled down. Since the end of the match, Soukai had disappeared from public view. As he was the one who instigated the provocation, no one stood up to say anything.

Additionally, Luo Qiao’s donation of the prize money managed to silence the crowd, leaving no room for idle gossip – at least not to her face. This match was of significant importance and even boosted the morale of the Chinese students studying in Boston.

One morning when Emma arrived at the lab, she pulled Luo Qiao aside to the break room: "Did you know? Aoi was taken back, they’ve arranged for him to study from home."

Luo Qiao didn’t speak, but she was already well aware of the outcome. If nothing went wrong, he would become a disabled person, likely unable to have a normal and ordinary life because painkillers would be his lifelong companion.

Luo Qiao shrugged her shoulders: "That’s indeed a sad piece of news."

What she thought inside, only Luo Qiao knew.

In fact, upon receiving the news, Soukai’s family immediately sent someone to take him to the best medical facility and consulted the top doctors. Unfortunately, the final result was that there were no serious issues, and he just needed some time to recover.

But Soukai was in so much pain that he could hardly bear it. Having no choice, his family had to arrange a home study program for him and brought him back to Japan, even though he was unwilling to accept this outcome.

As the incident slowly faded, the Chinese students in Boston became even more united and started interacting more with each other, all silently expressing their love for their country.

Time swiftly moved into December. These days, Luo Qiao became even busier, as the experimental project she was responsible for had reached a critical stage. Except for her unwavering weekends spent with her children, she was occupied with courses at the business school and her experiments, hoping to achieve results before returning to China for the Spring Festival.

As a result, in recent days, Emma and Steven found it hard to have a casual chat with her in the lab, which frustrated Emma greatly. Whenever she saw Luo Qiao, she would complain: "Luo, you’re really pushing yourself too hard. We’re in the same building, and yet we can’t even find time to have coffee together."

Luo Qiao smiled: "Now, I’ll grant your wish."

Steven handed Luo Qiao a cup of coffee: "No matter how busy, you need to rest appropriately."

Taking the coffee, Luo Qiao responded: "I can’t help it. I want to go back to China for the Spring Festival, so I want to finish the project before I leave. That way, I can return with peace of mind."

Hearing Luo Qiao’s words, Emma nodded: "I see, that makes sense. Alright then, I forgive you."

Luo Qiao smiled at Emma: "I’ll give you fifteen minutes for gossip."

Steven, holding his coffee, laughed out loud: "Luo, you’re really amusing. Emma indeed has something important to discuss with you. She hasn’t found the opportunity for three days. If she doesn’t talk to you now, she might go crazy."

Luo Qiao looked at Emma and lifted her chin slightly: "Go ahead, what’s the sensational news?"

Emma glanced outside the break room: "Madeline was beaten up by her half-sister near the school. A lot of people saw it."

Puzzled, Luo Qiao asked: "Why?"

Emma chuckled upon hearing Luo Qiao’s question: "This mess is thanks to you."

Luo Qiao frowned: "What do you mean, how is it related to me?"

From Emma, she learned the whole story. Madeline had been wanting to get back at Luo Qiao but couldn’t find the opportunity. That day, she saw Luo Qiao with Emma and Steven at the boxing match and decided to send someone to humiliate Luo Qiao.

Unexpectedly, the person she hired was incompetent, and Luo Qiao, along with Emma, managed to send her packing. Frustrated, she found another person at the venue planning to deal with Luo Qiao later.

However, no one would help for free, and the payment was obligatory. She had used the money initially intended for her sister. Before she could act, Luo Qiao had dealt with Yusuf, and the person she had planned to use dared not make a move.

Since the money was taken, it was impossible to return it easily to Madeline. They simply refused to acknowledge the debt, which was a private transaction without evidence. Madeline could do nothing but resign herself to her misfortune.

Her sister was unable to receive the money and eventually came to the school.

And there, her half-sister couldn’t accept it. Faced with so many people, she beat her up after she claimed she had lost the money.

Luo Qiao finished her coffee: "It’s said that those who are pitiable inevitably have their detestable side; she deserved it."

Emma agreed: "I never expected Madeline to be that kind of person. It all seemed an act before, really disappointing."

Luo Qiao put down her cup: "Being poor is not something to fear or be ashamed of, but the problem with Madeline is her small-mindedness, always focusing on personal gains and manipulations."

Emma sighed: "And to think I considered her a close friend before. Reflecting on past events, she had always been using me. Fortunately, I distanced myself from her; otherwise, who knows how many more slanders I would have had to bear for her."
