Reborn as a Tough Army Wife-Chapter 763 - 758: Let’s See Xu He’s Fate (1)
Fang Pingying, being a clever person, noticed how Shuanzi was tentatively probing and knew exactly what he was worried about. She gave a faint smile and reassured in a manner that sounded like a promise, "Shuanzi, let’s not beat around the bush. I know the only reason you targeted my sister-in-law was under Xu He’s orders. As long as my sister-in-law is still alive, I won’t hold you responsible for it."
Of course, if Luo Cuilan had truly been harmed by them, that would implicate some very serious crimes, and even if Fang Pingying wanted to let him off, there was no way she could.
With Fang Pingying’s promise, Shuanzi felt relieved. However, having been involved in many underhanded dealings, he was still afraid that Fang Pingying’s easygoing words were hiding a plot. Hesitating to make a decision, he looked at Fang Pingying uncertainly, "I..."
"If you insist on not revealing my sister-in-law’s whereabouts, then there’s nothing I can do except to kindly ask the Police Station to step in and help me with the investigation," Fang Pingying added a bit more pressure on Shuanzi when she saw that gentle persuasion was ineffective, deliberately stating, "Though I’m not a person of tremendous influence, I do know a few people. If I really need help, I can find it."
Seeing Fang Pingying speak this way, Shuanzi knew that if he kept hiding the truth, it might lead to disaster. He looked at Fang Pingying with a plea for assurance, "Then, Sister Fang, if I disclose your sister-in-law’s whereabouts, would you let me off?"
Fang Pingying looked at him; she had already given her assurance and couldn’t be bothered to repeat it.
Seeing her response, Shuanzi did not straight away disclose Luo Cuilan’s whereabouts but first attempted to absolve himself of responsibility, "Actually, I have no personal grudge against your sister-in-law. Besides, you and I have always had a decent relationship. If I had known it was your sister-in-law at that time, I would have never helped that bitch Xu He go against her."
Upon hearing this, Fang Pingying immediately replied, "I’ve said long ago, as long as my sister-in-law is alive and well, I promise not to trouble you."
Trouble, naturally, would be sought with Xu He.
Hearing Fang Pingying say so, Shuanzi’s mind was put at ease, and he immediately nodded, "Alright, I’ll tell you the address, and you can just send someone to pick her up."
After saying this, Shuanzi provided Luo Cuilan’s location to Fang Pingying and then called his subordinates on the other end to indicate that someone was coming to pick up Luo Cuilan and they should allow passage.
Once Fang Pingying got the address, she told Shuanzi about Xu He’s current address and immediately left to call home, informing Luo Zhiyong about Luo Cuilan’s situation.
In fact, Shuanzi had Luo Cuilan confined in a warehouse not far from there. As he bore no ill will against Luo Cuilan, he didn’t mistreat her aside from keeping her imprisoned in the warehouse, where she was provided with daily meals and drinks.
Of course, the sanitary conditions inside were dreadful.
Despite the poor conditions, it was fortunate that Luo Cuilan had survived.
Having been held captive for several months, Luo Cuilan had almost lost hope of survival. Seeing the door open and, upon looking up, spotting Luo Zhiyong and Fang Pingying at the entrance, she was stunned for a long while. After coming to her senses, she shouted loudly and threw herself at them, crying out, "Brother, sister-in-law, I’ve finally waited for you."
Seeing that Luo Cuilan was alive though significantly thinner, Luo Zhiyong and Fang Pingying both breathed sighs of relief. They immediately caught Luo Cuilan as she flung herself at them. Fang Pingying asked softly, "Are you okay? Did Shuanzi’s men do anything to you?"
While speaking, Fang Pingying looked over Luo Cuilan to see if there were any injuries.
Luo Cuilan shook her head, signaling she was fine, and then continued, "Apart from being slapped a few times in the first few days because they thought I was causing trouble, everything else has been okay."
With this, things were unexpectedly not as bad as they had feared, and they decided not to delve into the details.
Fang Pingying said, "As long as you’re fine, that’s good. Let’s go back first and talk more when we get there."
Luo Cuilan, supported by Luo Zhiyong and Fang Pingying, walked out of the building and suddenly asked anxiously, "How is my Zhuzhu? How is he doing?"
Remembering the recent sight of Zhuzhu, who had also grown quite thin, Luo Zhiyong reassured Luo Cuilan, "Zhuzhu is fine and is with Mom. We’ll pick him up and bring him here in a while."
Hearing her son was safe, Luo Cuilan also relaxed, but suddenly, a flash of anger crossed her eyes as if she remembered something, and she asked furiously, "Is that bitch Xu He still living with them?"
Luo Zhiyong nodded in confirmation, "Yes."
Luo Cuilan’s face revealed a trace of viciousness as she said to Luo Zhiyong and his wife, "Then let’s not go to your place first. We’ll go to Mom’s, Xu He made me suffer like this, and I will not let her off, even if it costs me my life."
"You know it was Xu He who did this to you?" Fang Pingying originally assumed that Luo Cuilan knew nothing and had been locked up without any clue.
Luo Cuilan scoffed mockingly, "I didn’t know at first. But later, I learned it was Shuanzi’s men who bound me, and they even warned me not to extort money from people, saying that someone wanted me dead. Their boss felt killing me would be pointless and decided to spare me. Their words were so clear that if I still didn’t know it was Xu He who wronged me, then I’d truly be a fool."
Seeing Luo Cuilan so eager to confront Xu He, Fang Pingying also felt tempted to see Xu He’s fate and agreed, "Alright, let’s go together and see Xu He’s end for ourselves."
Luo Cuilan, no fool, caught the implication and asked Fang Pingying, "Is there someone else targeting Xu He?"
Fang Pingying laughed softly, "Xu He has offended more than one or two people. She’s even crossed Shuanzi, and he’s probably after her life right now."
"Haha, I really have to see this for myself," Luo Cuilan suddenly felt someone would help her get revenge today, and despite being physically weak, her face lit up with joy. She excitedly pulled Fang Pingying along, laughing, "Sister-in-law, let’s go together, we can’t miss such a great show."
Fang Pingying also thought it was a good idea and chuckled, "Sure, let’s go together, we’ve got nothing better to do anyway." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Of course, Fang Pingying and the others guessed right; Shuanzi had already rushed over there ahead of them.
Moreover, before Shuanzi arrived, Zhou Yunmei was settling accounts with Xu He.
Following Luo Zhiyong’s advice, Zhou Yunmei stopped deliberately extorting Xu He and didn’t let Luo Zhi continue to threaten violence. There was no point in doing so; killing her was ultimately not an option, so why waste the breath? It would be better to get hold of something concrete instead.
