Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 73: Ch : The Dragon
"We have finally reached the evil dragon’s lair. The objective is clear-kill the evil dragon and then kill the evil emperor on the throne. Does anyone have any questions?"
Seraphina asked as she looked around.
As the chosen hero of the world, she had an unfair advantage against anyone else. But she had to admit that both Emperor and Richard were doing incredible at keeping up with her. And Lilianna was a good support.
But there was no cause to celebrate. In stories like these, the evil was often much more powerful than the heroes, and if they were not careful, then they could be killed off easily.
"We don’t have time for questions. If you are willing to waste time out here, then be my guest. I am heading inside now."
Emperor told her in an impatient voice. Richard followed him without missing a beat.
"I agree. Let’s kill the evil dragon and be done with this game. This lack of excitement is making me feel bored."
Lilianna was the only one who agreed that it would be best for them to be cautious. But she did not want to agree with Seraphina based on principles. So she remained quiet and followed after the pair.
Seraphina was the only one who sighed at the impatience of the humans. But she attributed it to them being so young and full of life. They had not been tainted by the horrors of the system that were yet to come.
The group entered the evil dragon’s lair and waited to get attacked. But there was a concerning lack of enemies heading their way.
"Is it only me, or...does this place feel abandoned to you all as well?"
Lilianna asked as she walked around carefully. Her voice was purposely low so that it wouldn’t alert any enemy.
"You are right. I don’t sense any monsters around. Still, we should be careful..."
The ground shook, and the group tensed as they saw a huge body suddenly leaning over them. The dragon was finally here, and all they needed to do was end its life...but something about the evil dragon felt different.
Seraphina could not put her finger on it, but she swore that the evil dragon did not seem...evil...and even felt familiar.
"Finally, the evil dragon looks like a challenge. I will kill it right now-"
Richard yelled as he attacked the dragon using his fists. But instead of attacking back, the dragon dodged the attack and shrunk back in an almost human-like manner. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"Something is wrong here..."
Lilianna muttered the thing Seraphina was feeling about the situation, and the dragon turned toward them with pleading eyes, almost as if it was begging them to understand her.
But once it realized that the humans could not understand it, it tried a new approach and took its massive claws to start writing on the ground.
"Ugh, what the hell-! Why do you keep dodging? Just allow me to kill you and gain exp-"
Richard yelled as he tried to attack the dragon again, and this time, the dragon had nowhere to hide. But his attack was blocked by Emperor, who pushed Richard back.
"What the hell is your problem? Do you want to fight me or something?"
Richard complained, but Emperor did not back down.
"Calm down for now. The evil dragon does not seem to be our enemy, and I want to hear what it has to say to us."
Emperor told Richard, who only gritted his teeth.
"What ’hear it out’? It’s our target and also the objective of this quest. Do you want to fail this game? Humanity’s future is dependent on this game, is it not?"
Richard asked in an annoyed voice, only for Seraphina to scoff at him.
"We are currently playing a game that involves the whole of humanity. Do you honestly believe that us doing our part will end it? Of course not. The game will likely only end once all the humans who are still alive have completed their system-given mission."
"AND...? That still does not change the fact that our mission is to kill the evil dragon and restore peace."
"The system told us to kill the evil. It never told us to kill the dragon. And the only evil I know is the current emperor."
Richard growled as he heard Seraphina’s logic. Of course, he did not agree with her and would much rather kill the dragon.
But he had a feeling he would be making enemies if he did that.
Gasp
"No way-! Y-You are Clara? How did you get stuck as the dragon...?"
Lilianna’s gasp brought everyone else’s attention toward her and the dragon, who nodded. Now that she had revealed herself as Clara, the familiar air around her made sense.
"Hey-! That dragon is a player as well-? Tsk, what an annoying discovery..."
Richard finally realized that he wouldn’t get to kill the dragon. Disappointment and anger flashed across his face before he pushed it down and gave the people in front of him an empty look.
"Alright, now that we know the evil dragon is not our target, what should we do next?"
Lilianna asked, feeling a little lost. The system’s message was clear to her, but that did not mean she knew what to do about it.
Just when she and the others made up their mind to go after the evil emperor that currently terrorized this world, the system lit up.
"What is happening-?"
Emperor asked, and Lilianna had an answer for him.
"The god of this world is trying to communicate with us."
Everyone tensed, not liking the words god and communicate in the same sentence. But the system did not stop just because they wanted it to stop.
[Your next and final mission is as follows-take the help of the dragon and defeat the root of evil-the tyrant emperor. When the time comes, borrow my power and I will lend you my power.]
The familiar voice spoke before it got cut off, and it was followed by a stunned silence.
"Hey, now that I hear the voice more clearly, did it not sound like Andrew’s...?"
Lilianna asked the question everyone was thinking about. They did not have an answer for her, but they did suddenly find the god much more useful compared to before.
