Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 84: Ch : Going out for Resources - Part 2
Angeline’s face looked less worried after Andrew’s comment. A simple promise of having her privacy and being trusted had won her over to Andrew’s side.
She was ready to follow Andrew, but the others around her had a different thought process and looked much less keen to see her leave.
"Ange, do not go. Who would protect us from the danger if you are gone as well? Maybe we should send someone else..."
The refugees tried to make their pseudo-leader change her mind, but Angeline shook her head.
"No. I feel like I have to be the one to go. As for your safety... you still have your abilities. And you should be safe as long as you are in the base. I will try to make my way back to you all soon."
She promised before she joined Andrew and Clara, and they headed out.
The second they stepped out of the safe base’s barrier, the air around them changed and started to become cold and hostile. The presence of monsters was sharp in the air, and the only question was ’when would they attack.’
"Clara, concentrate on finding the food. I will take care of protecting us. You-! If you want to live, then stay closer."
Andrew warned Angeline, who looked scared to be out here alone. But she quickly nodded and walked toward Andrew. She was not afraid of him as much as she feared her surroundings.
Clara waited until Andrew’s attention was back on her, and she used her abilities. With her powers, trying to find food was fast enough. All they had to do was follow the direction the plant was giving her.
They had more than enough to eat in no time, and they even avoided the monsters for the most part.
But Clara’s abilities had their limits, and she quickly hit them. She panted and collapsed on her hands and knees as she tried to regain her composure. But sweat covering her face betrayed just how tired she felt.
"A-Are you alright? Do you want to rest?"
Angeline asked in a worried voice. She looked torn between whether she wanted to help Clara out or not.
"I am fine. See, I am as good as a new person. I just... want to close my eyes for a few seconds."
Clara told her before she closed her eyes. But it caused her to relax a little too much, and before she knew it, she had fallen asleep where she stood. Her eyes were open, but she no longer responded to Angeline’s actions... for a total of 1 minute before she woke up.
"I... what was I doing? Sorry, I zoned out."
Angeline looked worried.
"Don’t worry. We should get you to rest. As far as I recall, our old base is not too far. Maybe we can go there and rest for now."
"Hmm, alright. Let’s go."
Andrew agreed as he and Clara followed Angeline’s directions. They came across another cabin in no time. But when they entered, there was no notification.
"I-I don’t know what happened here. One second, our base was n-normal, and the next, it said that it had exceeded capacity and monsters started chasing after us. B-But the base beacon was still here..."
Angeline tried to recall what happened, but tears filled her eyes immediately as she did.
Andrew decided to take her words at face value and look around. He quickly found the source of the problem-the beacon had fallen down from its place, causing its protection to fail.
The way it had been thrown seemed deliberate rather than natural. But Andrew did not speak of his suspicions to Angeline, who was already having a hard time accepting what happened.
He simply propped the beacon back in place.
[Beacon has been placed. A safety base has been established.]
[Base capacity: 3/10]
"It should be safe for now. Clara, you can take a small break if you want to."
Andrew told Clara, who looked relieved and nodded.
"Yeah, I think I will shut my eyes for a while. Wake me up when it is time for us to go."
She spoke softly before she closed her eyes. Only Angeline and Andrew were left, and Angeline felt even more nervous being alone with Andrew.
In the end, she could not take the silence anymore and decided to take her leave.
"I-I will take a look around. I will see you in a few minutes..."
She promised before she took her leave. Andrew did not follow her and decided to give her some time alone.
Angeline walked around the barrier for 10 minutes, her hand brushing against it before she pulled back and decided it was time for her to head back.
But no sooner had she turned around did she feel a familiar presence looking at her.
She immediately turned toward the presence, and her eyes widened in shock as the familiar face of her leader reached her eyes.
"L-Leader, are you alive? Quickly, come in where it is safe. How did you survive for this long?"
Angeline asked, and her leader came closer to her.
"I survived by sheer luck, but I don’t think I will get as lucky again. And as much as I want to step into safety, I am afraid that I do not have the right. That man with you might kill me."
Her leader’s words made Angeline fearful.
"N-No way-! Andrew would not...! He is a decent person, and we have space..."
But their old base did not have space. But they could take this beacon back and...
"Listen to me, Angeline. There is another reason I have not decided to come back. It is because I found another base for us all. But it will need more beacons. As long as we get them more beacons, they will accept and protect us all. So, can you do me a favor for me?"
The leader asked her as he kept his ears sharp.
Angeline had a bad feeling about it, but she did not want to doubt her captain.
"O-Of course. I will help you with anything you ask. You just need to ask me."
She assured him, and her leader’s smile widened.
"Then, can you get me the beacon from this base and your current base? Once you do, you can bring them and everyone else with you to the new base. Here, you can just track me and find me once you do that."
Her leader gave Angeline his base’s coordinates before he decided to take his leave.
Angeline felt a little conflicted, but her leader was someone who risked his life to protect her and her comrades. She was no longer sure what to do.
