Chapter 97: Ch 97: Ungrateful People - Part 2

Andrew kept one hand on Lilianna’s back, and with his other, he turned around to grab the offending hand reaching for her.

"Tsk, let go of me...! I said...let go of me...or else, I will call for someone-"

"Go ahead and call for help. But I assure you that no matter who you call, you will not be able to get what you want."

Andrew promised, and his smile made the man in front of him gasp in muted horror. He did not let go of the wrist, even when the man tried to pull it back and black marks began to appear around the wrist.

The man kept tugging and tugging, but no matter what he did, nothing worked. The others joined as well, deciding that if they were not able to make Andrew let go with words, then they would use force.

Their attacks hit Andrew’s shield and made no impact. After all, freeloaders like the ones in front of him had never had to fight too hard for their lives, so they lacked a lot of power.

"You are all wasting your time. The only reason I have not destroyed you is because Lilianna spent her time and effort on you. Other than that, you all are a complete waste of space to me."

Andrew reminded the people in front of him, and they gritted their teeth before deciding that they could not take this insult anymore.

They rushed toward him, their fists banging on the barrier around him.

Andrew immediately turned around and signaled for Seraphina and Emperor to leave with Clara. He was about to turn as well when ice blocked his way.

"Where do you think you are going after causing such trouble?"

Queen asked as she appeared. The loud noises had attracted her attention, but she had initially not wanted to get involved. But once it was sure that the situation would not improve without her involvement, she had decided to make her way here.

Her eyes looked between Andrew, then at the people in the base, and finally rested on Lilianna.

"Queen, you are here-! Quick, help us. That person is trying to take our healer away from us. You have to bring her back..."

People begged Queen, and she looked at Andrew with an almost blank look on her face. He was not sure what she was thinking, but he remained vigilant, ready to fight back against anything that could happen.

Finally, Queen moved and took a side.

"If you are going to take your companion, then do it quickly and don’t cause trouble for us."

Queen told Andrew, causing people to cry out in outrage.

"Queen, you cannot do that. You have to ask for the healer back..."

"I am still not healed, and I..."

"Then take a goddamned potion. We do not need outsiders’ help. Especially someone like these people who have no regard for Thief and his ideals. If you disagree, then you are free to leave the safe space."

Queen made it clear that she would not be hearing anything on this topic. Her firm approach made the people around her flinch and wonder what they should say to change her mind.

But in the end, anyone who knew her knew that there was no way to change her mind once she had made it up. So all they could do was give her some space and take a step back.

Their eyes continued to linger on Lilianna, and Andrew could read her discomfort. So he quickly grabbed her and decided to take her away from this toxicity.

"Are those people...going to be alright?"

Lilianna asked in a low voice. She sounded sorry for the people she had not been able to help out.

Andrew just patted her back as he ran away from the settlement.

"It will be fine. Those people survived before we got there, so they will find a way to survive after we leave them as well. Besides, being overly reliant on another’s help is not a good trait. The sooner these people learn this, the better."

Andrew reminded Lilianna, but she looked uncertain. Her eyes kept looking back, and Andrew kept a tight grip on her.

They soon returned to their base, and he gently put Lilianna down. Her legs wobbled for a second before they decided they would not be able to take her weight anymore.

"Huh-! I...what happened to me? Why did my legs...?"

Lilianna asked, and one look at Clara told them that she was pretty much in the same situation. But the strain on her was not as bad as it was on Lilianna.

"There are still some hours left before the game ends. You both should take it easy. We will go and hunt a few more monsters so that we can solidify our rankings."

Andrew told the pair, and they nodded.

That was how the next few hours were spent clearing out monsters and placing firmly in the top 10.

[Time left in game 11: 30 minutes]

Once the timer started to slow down, they all quickly went back to the base and watched as the space around them started to disappear.

The sky cracked, and the puppet came out of it. Her disinterested eyes looked down at everyone, but they seemed to linger a little longer on Andrew and his party.

"You all did a good job and made this entertaining to watch. Also, congratulations on making it out alive. I hope you will give a just as stellar performance in the next round."

The monotonous voice almost made it sound as if the puppet was mocking them.

[Game 11 cleared.]

The message appeared on everyone’s screen, and they let out a small sigh.

"As a general reward, we have prepared a special reward for you all. A longer vacation. The next game is going to take some time to prepare, so you all have three months to rest and recover."

There was a sudden wave of excitement at that news. But for those who knew the system and these games, this did not bode well for them.

The fact that the system was giving them a 3-month break could only mean one thing- something huge was coming their way.

’Tsk, what a hassle.’
