Reborn as an Extra-Chapter 636: The World Is Grey Because... Part-1.
It took Lia a long while to finally come back to her senses.
"This is why I was telling you not to listen to her... sometimes knowing too much is not a good idea you know..."
"Knowledge is not always good; sometimes it’s better to not know about certain things..."
The world is not black or white; there is no pure good and pure evil side.
Humans who used to be the uncrowned kings of this planet were forced to share their planet and their resources with other foreign races, and other foreign races were also trying to survive and struggle.
Humans wanted cheap and easily produced powerful healing potions to save the lives of many innocent folks and various injured soldiers, but fairies also didn’t want to become tools of war either.
The world is ’grey,’ and it’s up to perspective and your individual choice about what you want to believe and what not to believe.
From humans’ perspective, fairies and their artifacts can save millions of human lives and can boost their nation’s ability to resist demonic invasions.
From fairies’ perspective, humans are barbaric, cruel beings who just want to invade their lands and loot everything that belongs to them.
"Why do you think King Allen pushed forward the idea of a united world order? Why do you think he was so hell-bent on creating a world that would treat every soul and every being as equal?..."
"Although he didn’t succeed ultimately, he still managed to create the ’World Alliance’ that solved hundreds of border disputes and racial discrimination issues..."
"If not for the world alliance, the current world you live in would have been filled with chaos, and SS-rankers would have been fighting each other day on behalf of their nations."
"Perhaps the planet would have long seized to exist amid this constant chaos and war... today’s peace was earned by a long struggle of the ’Thousand Year War’...."
Lia had only read about the ’Thousand Year War’ in textbooks and had only known about it from history records; to her, it was a far-gone era with nothing to do with her current life.
But that was not really true.
A war that kept going for an entire millennium was not just a simple dispute of land and resources; it was a struggle between hundreds of races for survival and peace.
To earn the era of peace, millions and millions of lives were sacrificed, dozens of races were wiped off the face of the planet, and uncountable massacres were caused!
It was an era where even SS-rankers dared not wander out alone freely for fear of getting ambushed by the enemies and being ripped apart into pieces, let alone anyone else.
For the awakeners, it was an era where death could come at any moment and situations could turn from peace to instant disaster in a single millisecond!
And for normal ordinary people, it was an era of insane calamity!
A simple fight between two S-rankers alone is enough to shatter cities and cripple small nations, and in that thousand-year war, S-rankers were fighting dozens of times all over the world in a single day!
Hundreds of thousands of people, entire cities, and entire populations were being obliterated in a matter of a few seconds every single day!
SS-rankers died every single month just to keep the planet stable and stop the demons from destroying the planet with their powers!
Droughts, famines, earthquakes, tsunamis, meteor rains, powerful mana fluctuations, frequent dungeon gate openings, etc.
All these natural disasters had become so common that the entire land transportation system became completely irrelevant, and people had to come up with teleportation technology to keep resource transportation going.
The main reason why the human empire has so many spatial folding device-producing companies and such developed technologies in the space-time field is mainly because there was a time when growing crops and food had become impossible in normal circumstances.
During constant battles of SS-rankers, the planet was always in a calamity-like situation; in such situations, you would need to create separate space folds just to grow crops in a farm that won’t be affected by outside interference.
And even in this case you would have to pray to the heavens that the powerful demigods fighting daily like battle-crazed people will not accidentally shatter the planet and rip it apart.
The entire world lived in fear of death for a thousand years! That was not an era of the living; it was the era of hell, where just surviving one more day was a blessing from the heavens itself.
In such times, let alone humans, any race could go to any lengths to ensure its survival, even if it meant using innocent people as a literal potion-making extract!
[If humans had gotten their hand on the ’Fountain of Elemental Life,’ the few fairies who managed to actually survive to this day, would have managed to go to the dragon valley at all...]
[Humans would have found some way to modify the artifact and turn the entire fairy race into a mindless, meat farm like what they do with pigs and other animals and then they would have extracted the so-called ’fairy powder’ from them till even now!]
Hearing Kai’s words, Lia sighed and asked,
"So... humanity didn’t manage to get their hands on the ’Fountain of Elemental Life’ in the end?"
Kai nodded his head.
[Of course, they didn’t... demons were never going to stand by and watch humanity get such a powerful ’tool’ of war so easily...]
[The ’Fountain of Elemental Life’ was destroyed in a conflict... although I am not sure about which conflict it exactly was... but it might be related to this city of Kenorland...]
[After all, the legendary artifacts such as the ’Grand World Atlas’ and perhaps even more are also hidden in this city...]
Looking at this beautiful place, Lia felt quite sad that it was going to be destroyed, or it would be more accurate to say that it was mercilessly destroyed long ago, and now it was just a memory of the long-gone past.
