Reborn As Divine Doctor to Rule the World-Chapter 144 - 145: Are There Any Concubines in the House?
Chapter 144: Chapter 145: Are There Any Concubines in the House?
The cold wind was piercing, and a gentle spring breeze rustled through the large trees outside, causing the leaves to whirl in the air.
The moon emerged from the dark clouds, casting a soft glow that lit up the entire courtyard.
Shao He walked into her home to see that Xiao Linzhang was already sound asleep in bed, a sweet smile on his face.

Nanny Zhang brought over the cooked meal and placed it on the dining table, and the three of them sat down to eat together.
Initially, they had dared not eat at the same table with her, citing a custom that no servants could dine at the table, but they had reluctantly agreed after Shao He’s persuasion, on the condition that it never occur in the presence of others.
After the meal, Nanny Zhang and Qingxia cleaned up the dishes, and Shao He walked into the courtyard, gazing up at the star-filled sky. Her mood was heavy.
...
Qing Shan returned to her room and brought out a cloak, draping it over Shao He’s shoulders. She said softly, “The wind has been strong these days, miss, do not catch a cold.”
Suddenly, Shao He remembered that Qing Shan and Qingxia had once been employed at Pei Huaian’s Mansion, so she grabbed Qing Shan’s wrist and asked, “You two worked at Pei Huaian’s Mansion, have you ever seen a birthmark on his waist?”
A flicker of confusion crossed Qing Shan’s face, but she immediately responded, “We servants never attended to Young Master Pei up close, and such personal matters like dressing were not tended to by others. Also, no maid was close to him, so naturally, we did not know if the Young Master had any birthmark on his waist.”
Unsatisfied, Shao He asked again, “Were there no concubines in Pei Huaian’s Mansion?”
“None at all, ever since we began serving there, we never saw other women around the Young Master, only Ah Mo attended him,” Qing Shan answered earnestly.
In this, she found Young Master Pei quite admirable, unlike other men who would have several concubines or serving maids in their mansions.
After hearing Qing Shan’s answer, Shao He fell into deep thought about how she might be able to see the birthmark.
Qing Shan pulled the cloak slightly forward and said, “Miss, you should head back inside and rest. Tomorrow, you need to rise early for your clinic visit.”
After hearing this, Shao He dismissed her thoughts and turned back toward the house, pausing mid-way and then speaking, “Since Ah Mo is always by Pei Huaian’s side, maybe I could extract some useful information from him.”
Qingxia, who had appeared at some point, replied, “I advise you, miss, to dismiss that idea. Ah Mo is utterly loyal to Young Master Pei and would never reveal any information regarding him.”
“Qingxia, hold your tongue, who allowed you to speak to the miss that way?” Qing Shan rebuked sharply.
Usually the most rule-abiding, perhaps it was related to her age, the two sisters were contrasting figures; one was composed and calm, the other lively and active.
Chastised, Qingxia stuck out her tongue and stood there with her head down, not daring to speak out of turn again.
Shao He looked at Qing Shan and said, “Qingxia is right, the likelihood of extracting words from Ah Mo is virtually zero.”
“See, miss agrees with what I said,” Qingxia said smugly, pushing open the door as she continued, “Miss, since you want to know if Young Master Pei has a birthmark, why not just ask him directly? It would be much simpler.”
“No, this must remain between us few; if Pei Huaian hears of it, you two will no longer be able to stay here,” Shao He warned with a glance toward the sisters.
“We understand,” Qingxia and Qing Shan bowed in response.
Qingxia followed Shao He inside, helping her change into her nightclothes and carefully covering her with a blanket before leaving.
Shao He lay with her eyes open, staring at the canopy of her bed, her mind involuntarily recalling familiar scenes and that birthmark…
Just as she was about to fall asleep, she suddenly heard voices outside, startling her. Wondering if it was Chu Yu, she wrapped herself in a coat and walked out.
Upon opening her door, she stood in surprise at seeing the figure outside, “You’re still awake at this hour?”
Pei Huaian, seeing her in a coat, frowned and asked, “Did I disturb your rest?”
Shao He put on her coat properly, opened the door to let him in, and then turned to instruct, “Bring a pot of hot tea over.”
“Yes,” Qing Shan immediately turned and left.
Pei Huaian walked into the inner room to see Xiao Linzhang in bed, sleeping in a bizarre posture, and a smile unconsciously formed on his lips.
“This little fellow is sleeping so early tonight.”
Normally, Xiao Linzhang would not sleep until Hai Hour, which was why he had come to visit so late.
“Yes, he probably got tired from playing during the day; he was already in bed when I came back,” Shao He said, having already dressed up.
“Are you sure the prosthetic will work?” Pei Huaian was still somewhat apprehensive, not that he doubted her medical skills but rather the feasibility of it all.
“Absolutely, but we need to check his physical condition thoroughly. If there are no issues, it should work,” Shao He understood his concerns and was not annoyed by his skepticism, given the improbability of the situation.
“Good,” Pei Huaian was reassured, his gaze falling onto the chubby Xiao Linzhang. He wheeled his chair closer and carefully touched the boy’s small hand.
The soft touch stirred his heart; he had never imagined that one day he would have a child suddenly appear in his life, everything happening so coincidentally.
“Xiao Linzhang will surely grow up safe and sound,” Pei Huaian silently hoped.
