Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 860: Don’t Move, Stay With Me for a While
Chapter 860: Chapter 860: Don’t Move, Stay With Me for a While
The car weaved through the bustling city center and returned to Rose Valley.
Catherine first went to the nursery to pick up Alice. The little girl hadn’t seen her mother all day. She rushed into her mother’s arms upon seeing Catherine, happily talking about her day. After finishing, she peeked out from Catherine’s embrace and, not seeing Benjamin, showed a hint of disappointment on her face, "Mommy, where is Uncle Benjamin?"
"Uncle Benjamin is busy," Catherine replied somewhat evasively to her daughter.
Alice nodded understandingly, but couldn’t help asking again, "When will uncle be finished with his work? Alice misses uncle a bit."
"Quite soon," Catherine said, feeling uneasy as she heard her daughter’s words. She wondered if it was the bond of blood that had made Alice and Benjamin so close lately. Her daughter was growing increasingly fond of Benjamin, which not only made her anxious but also filled her with guilt. She hesitated over whether to tell Alice that Benjamin was her father.
Hearing her mother’s listless voice and noticing her pale face, Alice knew her mother must be very tired from work. She wisely stopped asking, climbed out of Catherine’s embrace, and took her hand, "Mommy, let’s go home."
Seeing her daughter’s demeanor made Catherine’s nose sting with sadness, yet she did not know what to say. She could only nod and led her little girl out of the building’s property management office.
What she didn’t expect was to find Reed still waiting outside. Catherine was puzzled, "Mr. Reed, it’s not far from the villa; Alice and I can just walk back."
"I’ll take you," Reed insisted.
Catherine, not wanting to snub his kindness, took Alice’s hand and got into the car. What was strange was that Reed stopped the car at Benjamin’s house, and even stranger was that the lights in the man’s villa were on.
"Did Aunt Jones come?" Catherine asked Reed, puzzled.
"Miss Ford will know when she goes inside," Reed replied vaguely, not sure how to answer her question.
Catherine had originally thought Benjamin was hospitalized today, and since Reed had refused her offer to visit the hospital, she didn’t plan to go to Benjamin’s villa, assuming she wouldn’t need to prepare dinner for him tonight. But Reed’s words didn’t seem to imply what she was thinking. Could it be that they planned to have her prepare the dinner first and then deliver it?
However, considering that Benjamin’s hospitalization was due to her, she indeed felt obligated to keep cooking for him. Without further thought, she took Alice’s hand and walked toward Benjamin’s villa.
Catherine entered, skillfully opened the door, and walked in with Alice. She called out for Mrs. Jones a few times but received no answer. After checking the living room and kitchen and finding no one, she heard a thud from upstairs. Catherine, unclear about what had happened, quickly instructed Alice, "Don’t move, Mommy will go upstairs to check."
Alice obediently hummed a response, and Catherine rushed upstairs. She didn’t see Mrs. Jones there either, so she called out louder, "Aunt Jones, Aunt Jones..."
But no matter how many times she called, there was no response. Wondering if she had misheard, Catherine frowned and stood in the middle of several rooms. Just then, from the nearest master bedroom, a soft grunt was heard. It was very light, but because it was so quiet around, Catherine easily caught it. She couldn’t hesitate any longer and walked over. The door to the master bedroom was not closed; she gently pushed it open and, curious about what was going on, saw a man with a half-exposed body leaning on the bed’s edge, with a shattered glass next to him.
Catherine was startled and instinctively asked, "Who... who are you?"
If Benjamin was in the hospital, how could there be another man in his master bedroom?
As she finished speaking, she saw the man leaning against the bed slowly turn his head, revealing a familiar and handsome face that appeared before Catherine’s wide-open large eyes. With surprise written all over her face, she then looked concerned, "How did you come back?"
Benjamin Jones seemed not to have heard Catherine’s question and pointed at the ground, "Don’t come over."
Catherine glanced at the pile of broken glass, "Do you want... some water?"
Upon hearing this, a look of embarrassment flashed across Benjamin’s face, followed by a low and muffled agreement.
Seeing this, Catherine had a rough idea of what was happening; the man wanted to drink water but due to his condition, he had smashed the glass. It seemed that he had also fallen off the bed, leaving her with mixed emotions and a sense of sympathy, "Don’t move, I’ll get you some water."
After speaking, Catherine quickly went downstairs to fetch a new glass of water for Benjamin.
Back upstairs, Catherine avoided the area with broken glass, handed the glass of water to Benjamin, then entered the bathroom. She came out with cleaning tools shortly after and cleaned up the shattered glass. Then, looking at the man who was bare-chested and wrapped in a bath towel, her cheeks flushed as she said, "Let me help you back onto the bed, the floor is cold."
Having said that, she felt that it might be inappropriate, "If it’s inconvenient for you, I can call Mr. Reed over."
But before she had finished her sentence, Benjamin had already reached out his hand to her.
Catherine paused for a moment, then stepped forward to support his arm. However, because he was too heavy, she nearly fell to the ground. In panic, she instinctively reached for the man beside her, but in her nervousness, she grabbed the bath towel wrapped around Benjamin’s waist, which was... rather embarrassing.
Although she managed not to fall, Catherine’s entire face turned a deep shade of red out of embarrassment, as if she were a shrimp thrown into boiling water, feeling hot all over, "I didn’t mean to do that."
But as soon as she finished speaking, the weight of the man on top of her pressed down again, and Catherine, unprepared, both fell straight onto the large bed with Benjamin landing directly on top of her.
Catherine was almost out of breath from the weight pressing down on her, her eyes widened as she stared at the man’s handsome face that was so close by. Unable to appreciate the sight, she strained to place her fist on her chest, gasping, "You... get off, I can’t... breathe..."
"Mhm." Benjamin looked down at the woman beneath him, his gaze growing deeper. After a while, he uttered a grunt and then rolled off Catherine.
Catherine hurriedly sat up, taking deep breaths. Once she had recovered slightly, she noticed something was wrong with the man. Turning her head to look, because of their previous movements, she had accidentally pulled off his bathrobe, her eyes landing on areas she shouldn’t have seen. Her already flushed face grew even hotter, recollections of the inappropriate scenes from their past together surfaced involuntarily in her mind, and she unconsciously swallowed. She then grabbed the blanket to cover him and touched Benjamin’s forehead, which was even hotter than her own body.
In an instant, all of Catherine’s romantic thoughts dissipated, and she couldn’t help but mutter, "Why are you so hot? Don’t you know you’ve just had surgery? Why did you leave the hospital and even took a shower? Do you have a death wish..."
"Annoying." Benjamin himself did not expect to develop a fever after returning home; he hadn’t actually undergone any surgery and thought that a drip and some medicine from the hospital would suffice. But as things turned out, feigning sickness had turned into real illness.
His single word successfully silenced Catherine, and her heart sank even more. She knew she had no right to care for him, but she couldn’t stand by and do nothing while he was down with a fever. She forced down the terrible emotions in her heart and stood up, "I’m going to call the driver to take you to the hospital."
But just as she finished her sentence, the man who had seemed at death’s door a moment ago suddenly extended his long arm and pulled her over. Completely unprepared for this, Catherine landed directly on Benjamin’s body, her lips pressed against his chest. Her mind went blank, and as she looked up in bewilderment, she met a pair of profound eyes. Her heart raced uncontrollably, and it took her a moment to find her voice again, "What are you doing?"
"Don’t move, stay with me a little longer." Benjamin’s hoarse voice murmured lowly, his warm breath tickling Catherine’s reddened cheeks, making them itch. What puzzled her even more were his words. What did he mean by asking her not to move and to stay with him a while?
Feeling somewhat confused, Catherine raised her head to look at the man beneath her, but since her head was pressed against his chest, struggling to look up only allowed her to see his chin and not the expression on Benjamin’s face. All she could do was protest in a muffled voice, "Let go of me, you have a fever..."
"Just stay silent for a while." Ever since Abigail left, Benjamin Jones couldn’t help but think about what Catherine Ford had gone through during childbirth. He had met Foster Newman and his mother and knew very well that they wouldn’t have treated Catherine kindly. With Mrs. Ford’s personality, she naturally wouldn’t have gone out of her way to take care of Catherine during her pregnancy, and Mr. Ford, being a man, would have wanted to help but lacked the ability to do so.
He was desperate to see her and had someone send him more detailed information about Catherine’s pregnancy and childbirth on the way. Only then did he realize that her situation was even worse than he had imagined. Not only did the Newman family fail to support her, but Catherine was still working eight months into her pregnancy. After giving birth, she was harshly criticized by the Newman family for not having a boy, and she had to take care of the child while also tending to Mrs. Newman.
The more he read the files, the worse Benjamin Jones’s expression became, and the more he regretted the distress his own foolish actions had caused Catherine.
As for what happened later, Benjamin Jones, being Catherine’s attorney, was aware of her situation with Foster Newman, but he never imagined that Foster would have treated her so badly before they had fallen out.
Yet that foolish woman, in order not to tarnish her family’s reputation for her parents, sister, and brother’s sake, had been tolerating the Newman family all along, only standing up to fight back when they began to harm Alice.
He sighed lightly, on one hand, despising the woman’s obstinate weakness, and on the other hand, unable to restrain the aching pity in his heart. Holding her in his arms at this moment, he looked down at her beautiful and stubborn face, full of worry for him, and his heart melted completely. He was never a kind person, but looking at the kind and clumsy woman in his arms, he couldn’t bring himself to be hard-hearted.
She had never been his ideal type, and, according to his past values, such a weak person ought to be eliminated. But now, all he wanted was to protect her tightly in his arms, preventing her from getting hurt even the slightest bit.
Catherine Ford lay on Benjamin Jones’s body, feeling the warmth of the man’s chest and her heart beating wildly. She thought that he must have sensed her abnormal state, but he didn’t move. For a moment, she didn’t know what to do and comforted herself thinking that he must not be able to hear her disordered heart due to his illness.
But just as Catherine finished thinking, she heard the man’s teasing, husky voice from above her head, "Did you fit a drum inside your chest?"
Catherine Ford, "..."
She turned completely red, curling her toes in embarrassment upon hearing Benjamin’s words and tried to get up from his body in annoyance. But as she moved, she was pushed down by the man’s big hand, slightly angered, "What are you doing?"
"Listen," Benjamin Jones said, not minding the woman’s embarrassment and growing temper after being teased, simply whispering softly in her ear as he tilted his head.
Catherine Ford was confused but still instinctively followed the man’s instructions.
Thump, thump, thump...
The more Catherine listened, the more bewildered she became, until after a while, she looked up, her flushed face bearing an incredulous expression, as if to ask if she understood correctly.
Right where she was resting, the man’s heart was beating powerfully, barely any slower than her own. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
This...
With her mouth slightly open, Catherine Ford was at a loss for words for quite a while. Her already accelerated heartbeat sped up even more. At this moment, Benjamin Jones stretched out his hand to lift her small head so she was no longer just looking at his chin, but embracing his entire handsome face with her gaze.
"Did you hear it?" Benjamin Jones asked, in a very good mood, as he looked at Catherine’s dazed expression.
With her face growing even more flushed, Catherine nonetheless nodded honestly.
Benjamin Jones chuckled softly, "Do you understand now?"
This time, however, Catherine shook her head.
Benjamin Jones sighed, resignedly calling her "Foolish."
Catherine Ford felt embarrassed. She somewhat understood, but she really couldn’t believe that a man like Benjamin Jones could be moved by her.
But the word "foolish" coming from the man above her head was too indulgent, making it impossible for her not to believe. Her heartbeat quickened further, and what was terrible was that the man, despite being too weak to stand up just a moment ago, was now lifting her up, and the next moment his handsome and noble face loomed large in front of her.
Catherine Ford involuntarily thought of the kiss the man had left in the car last time, and closed her eyes subconsciously.
At this moment, Catherine Ford felt somewhat resigned, thinking that if it was a kiss or a deception, so be it, since she couldn’t control her erratic heartbeat anyway.
"Mommy..."
Resigned to her fate, Catherine honestly tilted up her chin, expecting the man’s kiss to land. Right then, she heard Alice’s crisp call for mommy. She jerked wide-eyed and, before Benjamin could react, she scrambled off the bed and ran out of the bedroom.
Benjamin Jones, "..."
"Mommy, why did you go to Uncle’s room? Alice is so hungry!" Alice had waited a long time without seeing her mother, so she had come upstairs to look for Catherine Ford.
Catherine Ford’s face was already flushed, and hearing Alice’s words, she flushed even deeper, her fair neck turning pink. Licking her dry lips, she said, "Your Uncle Benjamin is sick, mommy was just taking care of Uncle Benjamin, now I will cook for you."
As soon as Alice heard this, she got anxious, "Uncle is sick?"
Saying this, Alice headed towards Benjamin Jones’s room. Catherine Ford was anxious to stop her daughter, but Alice had already stepped into Benjamin’s room before her. In a hurry, Catherine said, "Alice, listen to mommy..."
Before she could finish, she saw that the man who was just bare-chested was now lying properly covered with a thin blanket, a sickly red tinge on his handsome face, and the previous flirtation wiped clean. Seeing Alice enter, he gestured for her to come over.
Catherine sighed with relief and approached Benjamin Jones to check his forehead, whispering to Alice, "Stay here with uncle; Mommy is going to find him some medicine."
After saying that, Catherine Ford hurriedly looked for the man’s medicine box, first using the thermometer to measure his temperature, which was an alarming 38.3 degrees Celsius. She grew anxious, "Benjamin Jones, let’s get you to the hospital."
"I’ve already taken medication, and the doctor said a fever is quite normal, don’t worry." Benjamin Jones said, then asked Alice in a low voice if she had been good today.
Watching the father and daughter, Catherine Ford sighed lightly and went to get warm water to help lower the man’s temperature physically.
Benjamin Jones unconsciously looked up at the woman’s back, the corners of his mouth revealing a slight, self-satisfied smile.
