Chapter 260: A change in the Ring of Chaos?

"I see..."

Tiffany nodded slowly.

She then remembered the words of the relic’s master about choosing the most suitable inheritor.

However, back then, like the others, she only thought that only one male and one female who was the most suitable would get the inheritance.

Only now she finally understood that the most suitable would gain the most fitting inheritance, while the others followed in degree. A sudden thought came into her head in the next second. Whose inheritance ranked the highest among them?

But then a moment later, she wisely chose not to ask. Once such things were spoken aloud, those who fell behind would inevitably feel awkward.

"Zora, Reesa, I really envy you both," Tiffany sighed in the end, shaking her head. "If I could’ve gotten an inheritance too, that would’ve been amazing. The gap between us really isn’t small anymore."

"Tiffany, your talent and potential are excellent as well," Zora said warmly. "This time, the relic master simply chose the people most suited to their inheritances. We’re still young. There will be many opportunities ahead, so there’s no need to dwell on it."

Her words were gentle and sincere. Thinking back to their earlier misunderstandings, Zora felt that Tiffany was actually open-minded and straightforward, far from being petty. Now, getting along felt surprisingly natural.

"You’ve finally come back." Marcus also strode over with a hearty laugh, slapping Alaric Von Seraph and the others on the shoulder without restraint.

"You’re all celebrities in not just the academy but the entire city, now," he continued with amusement. "This inheritance trip completely overshadowed the four great families and brought incredible fame to the academy. The news has spread everywhere. The principals and tutors are all smiles, and enrollment pressure is basically gone. So many young cultivators are scrambling to get in, it’s ridiculous."

"No wonder Heavenly City felt livelier than before," Raphael said with a refined smile. "So that’s why."

"Exactly," Marcus said, eyes shining with envy. "You’re the idols everyone’s talking about now."

There was a trace of complex emotion in his gaze.

As leaders of different teams, he felt like he and Alaric Von Seraph had always been evenly matched, and there was a sense of rivalry between them. Atleast, that’s what he believed so far.

This inheritance, however, had clearly widened the gap, and moreover, the light of inheritance has also proved that Alaric Von Seraph’s talent surpassed his own.

Yet after a brief moment of dejection, Marcus had already adjusted his mindset. No matter what, Alaric Von Seraph and the others were his brothers. Seeing them grow stronger was something worth celebrating, not resenting.

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Marcus spoke with a smile, his tone turning more businesslike. "The news of your return has probably already reached the principals and tutors. I won’t hold you up any longer. You should go see them first."

Everyone nodded in agreement. It was only natural that the academy’s higher-ups would be waiting for them by now.

"Then we’ll head over first," Raphael said with his usual elegant smile. "We’ll meet later."

"No problem," Marcus replied readily. "We’ll wait for you back at the dormitory."

"Alright."

When Zora and the others arrived at the principal’s quarters, they saw Principal Wilheim already there, along with Vice Principal Gerrad, Tutor Sebastian, and Tutor Miel, all waiting downstairs.

"They’re finally back," Sebastian said with an unmistakable smile of relief the moment he spotted them, turning to Principal Wilheim and the others as he spoke.

Zora and her companions stepped forward together and saluted respectfully. "Greetings, Principal. Greetings, Tutors."

"There’s no need for formalities," Principal Wilheim said warmly, his face full of gratification. "You are the great heroes of our academy."

The worry that had once weighed heavily on Principal Wilheim’s brow because of the beast tide was nowhere to be seen now.

In its place was open pride and joy. Although Alaric Von Seraph and the others had only returned today, the news of their inheritance had already spread far and wide.

Over the past few days, people had come one after another to congratulate him. The fact that students from the academy’s special enrollment class had outshone the elite heirs of the great families in a battle for inheritance was an achievement worth boasting about.

As the principal, there was nothing more satisfying than seeing the academy’s reputation soar. While the academy had always been well known in the region, this time its name had spread much farther than before, and that was all thanks to the five standing before him.

"What the principal says is right," Vice Principal Gerrad added with a gentle smile. "You’ve already become representatives of our academy."

He was genuinely pleased. Seeing students he had guided achieve such heights filled him with heartfelt satisfaction. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"You came back right after accepting the inheritance?" Sebastian asked, a trace of concern still in his voice. "Nothing unexpected happened afterward, did it?"

Zora and the others shook their heads. "No. After the inheritance was completed, nothing else happened. When we left the ruins, only a few of us remained in the Suffocating Forest."

Only then did Sebastian truly relax.

He had originally wanted to wait outside the ruins for them, but there was no way to know how long the inheritance would take. On top of that, academy matters demanded attention, and after much deliberation, he had chosen to return first.

After all, their original purpose in entering the White Mountains had merely been a blue-ranked mission. Everything that followed had gone far beyond anyone’s expectations, including the amount of time spent there.

"That’s good," Sebastian said, nodding in relief.

"Seeing you return safely puts our minds at ease," Principal Wilheim said kindly. "You’ve just come back and must be exhausted. Go rest well."

"Thank you, Principal," they replied in unison, smiles spreading across their faces.

Zora and the others left the principal’s quarters amid praise and encouragement from both the principal and the tutors.

This meeting had never been meant as an interrogation or a detailed inquiry. It was simply a confirmation of their safety, and now that this had been assured, there was nothing more that needed to be said.

Their achievements were earned by their own abilities, yet the academy had benefited greatly from them as well. As students of the academy, their glory was also the academy’s glory, and that was why the principals and tutors felt genuine pride when looking at them.

"Everything’s finally settled. We can go back and rest at last!" Reesa exclaimed, her face glowing with excitement.

Since setting out for the White Mountains, they had not enjoyed a single proper rest for an entire month.

Now that they were back at the academy, the thought of their dormitories alone made her feel relaxed. In particular, Reesa had only just passed the special enrollment assessment before leaving for the White Mountains and had barely had time to even glance at her new dormitory, let alone stay in it.

Seeing her enthusiasm, the others could not help but smile. They all felt the same. After everything they had been through, a good rest was long overdue. There would be plenty of time later to gather, talk, and celebrate.

Reesa’s dormitory was located next to Baldwin’s. Ever since she first saw the special enrollment dormitories, she had been full of anticipation. Now, she finally had the chance to properly lie down and relax.

Zora also returned to her own residence.

The accumulated fatigue from the journey, the inheritance, and the constant tension slowly surfaced the moment she stepped inside. "Finally, I’m here... Let’s take a peaceful nap."

Just as she was about to sit down and rest for a while, Black’s excited voice suddenly rang out in her ears.

"Master! A stone chamber inside the Ring of Chaos has opened!"

Zora’s eyes flickered with surprise. "Eh?"
