Chapter 42: Beasts! Run! Run!
Kaden's eyes widened at the notification. He reached down and grabbed the snake with his bare hands. His grip tightened around the serpent's throat, his fingers digging into the slick, scaly flesh. The snake hissed and writhed, its venom still dripping from its fangs, but the pain no longer clouded his mind.
He was immune.
The realization sent a thrill through him. His body had already evolved beyond the poison. He was no longer just reacting—he was dominating.
With a savage grin, he twisted his grip and yanked the snake off his chest, its fangs tearing free from his skin. The beast screeched, its long body thrashing in his grasp, but Kaden was already moving.
[Thorn Whip: Spear Form.]
The vine solidified into a jagged, barbed spike, its energy pulsating through his fingers. Without hesitation, he drove it straight through the snake's skull, impaling it from jaw to brain. The beast twitched violently before falling limp.
[Ding! You have killed a Green Pit Serpent!]
There was one left, the damn thing clung to his leg. This was it. This would give him the last level up he so desperately needed.
Just as Kaden tore away the last snake from his leg, the cave's mouth which had previously closed up and blocked, rumbled once again, followed by an explosion of rocks and debris.
The cavern's mouth burst open with a thunderous crash. A shockwave of dust and jagged stone tore through the clearing, forcing him to shield his face. The ground beneath him trembled violently, deep fissures spreading across the rocky surface.
And then, from the gaping hole in the cavern's mouth, several pairs of slit-like eyes emerged. This time it was not just snakes. A lizard-like beast with a jagged maw, something that looked like a centipede and there were even some two-headed snakes.
"Salamanders and twin-heads?" Kaden recognized some of them immediately. These things did not belong in the beginner tutorial area. He had never seen them in his last life in this area. What were they doing here and just how the hell did they get here?
More importantly, the sheer number of them was terrifying. These beasts were not overly strong but Kaden wasn't too confident at the moment dealing with them in these kinds of numbers. There was also a chance that something even more ridiculous could happen and stronger beasts could show up. He did not want to take risks unnecessarily. It was not worth it.
Clutching the struggling snake in his hand, he ran taking the snake along with him for the ride. Behind him, the creatures erupted from the cavern's mouth, a wave of fangs, claws, and chitin tearing after him with primal hunger.
Kaden's eyes widened in horror as he glanced at the scene. A fucking beast horde was after him. The damned thing inside the egg sac probably sensed the danger to its life and called for help. But what sort of a beast could command so many beings while still an embryo?
This was completely insane!
Kaden pushed his legs beyond their limit, his breaths ragged as the thunderous stampede of the pursuing beast horde rattled the very ground beneath him. The monsters were coming fast. Too fast.
The centipede abominations skittered with unnerving speed, their razor-sharp mandibles clacking in rhythmic hunger. The two-headed snakes twisted and lunged, their long bodies slithering over boulders and rough terrain as if the land itself were smooth glass. The salamanders bounded with terrifying strength, their muscular limbs propelling them forward, their ember-lit eyes gleaming.
They were all coming for him in a mad frenzy.
And Kaden?
He was outpacing them—but just barely.

Intuitively, Kaden ran in the safest direction he could think of, away from the vultures and the dying panther and toward the human survivors' camp. He sprinted like a demon, his heart hammering against his ribs as he tore through the jagged landscape. Every instinct screamed at him to move faster.
His body was stronger than ever before, his evolution having given him a physical edge he had never possessed in his past life. But raw power wasn't enough. These monsters were many, relentless, and closing in.
His gaze snapped ahead to see that the human survivors' camp was just within reach. He hoped that he did not run into them but he couldn't help it. They were in his way. Well, okay. He didn't try hard enough. They weren't his priority at the moment.
The flickering glow of their makeshift bonfires burned in the distance and Kaden started shouting at the top of his lungs. "Beasts! Run! Run!"
When he arrived closer, he shockingly saw nothing but a deserted campsite. They had already vacated!
The bonfires still smoldered, the remnants of scattered supplies and abandoned shelters telling a story of a hasty retreat. They already ran.
Smart. But that meant one thing—he was the only one left to deal with this damn beast horde.
Behind him, the chorus of hungry screeches, growls, and hisses grew louder. The monsters were closing in, their bloodthirsty frenzy only escalating.
