Reborn for Revenge: Find her Fated Alpha-Chapter 198: Gratitude and Remorse
Kyle sat beside Amelia, his gaze challenging and unpredictable as he kept looking at the woman he vowed to protect against all odds of life.
The same woman who gave him enough strength to fight against the betrayal he suffered from his team and accept who he was wholeheartedly, the woman who stopped him in this werewolf world when he was about to abandon it.
Now that he thought about it, if he had left that night to look for the vampires, just like that Gypsy had told him, he wouldn’t have been able to meet his brother ever, find out that he had a twin and a legacy, a family so big that he or they didn’t even know about.
He would’ve never found out about who his birth parents were and how they probably suffered more than he did. He would’ve continued to hate his parents for abandoning him without any knowledge.
Everything was down to this woman who made his life possible.
Even the thought of losing her, never being able to see her smile, hear her giggle, or see her naughty expressions, made his heart clench painfully.
With a sigh, he clasped her hand between his hands, bringing it close to his chest before placing his forehead on it.
He didn’t say a word. Didn’t feel the need to.
For he knew his heart spoke louder than any word he could ever utter, for she knew that his bond would call and scream for her louder than his mouth ever could.
Tears brimmed in his eyes, but he forbade himself from crying. There was no need to shout. Nothing was wrong. His mate was just resting after a harrowing ordeal.
Cyrus, who had gone to talk to the doctor and ask him why his wife was not opening her eyes even when her wounds had entirely healed because of his blood, returned to the room.
Kyle looked up with hope, hoping his brother would bring some answers.
However, seeing his tired and dejected expression, the hope in his eyes dimmed.
"It’s okay. She will wake up soon." Kyle tried to comfort Cyrus, who kneeled before Amelia’s bed.
He shook his head at his brother.
It was all his fault. He brought this on her. Dominic hated how he had taken the crown from him, which was why he targeted his wife.
The trial that tested her emotional, mental, and physical intelligence was a result of him. He brought her into this. Time after time, she was asked to prove her love for him. And she did!
His jaw squared as he crouched beside Amelia’s bed and held her hand.
"I am sorry, my love. I failed you as your mate, as your husband. It should’ve been me on this bed instead of you. This was our fight, and I brought you into this. Please forgive me," Cyrus said.
Kyle’s gaze trembled at his brother’s words. And he wanted to coax him, but didn’t know what to say.
After all, it was both of their faults. They both failed at protecting one woman.
She had two mates, and both of them proved to be useless when it came to trust and protection.
Kyle stood from the chair and was about to leave the room when he felt it.
The bond, the mark on his neck, twitched, stirred, like an awakening lion.
He turned rapidly, his gaze shifting to Amelia’s closed eyes before he looked at Cyrus to see if he felt it too.
When he saw the surprised expression on his brother’s face, he knew he wasn’t the only one.
Cyrus stood from his place and cupped Amelia’s face.
"My love, can you hear me? It’s me, Cyrus. Please open your eyes. It’s getting unbearable," Cyrus whispered.
Amelia, who had been slipping in and out of her conscious state and hearing their words, trying her best to open her eyes and tell them everything was alright, finally gained consciousness.
Her eyes fluttered open, her husband’s blue eyes the first thing that came into her view.
Cyrus’s pupils dilated for a brief second when he looked into his amber eyes, which, for some reason, looked even brighter and more glowing.
"Hey," Amelia croaked softly.
Kyle held her hand.
"Hey, to you too," Kyle whispered.
Amelia smiled at her two mates.
"How have you been?" She asked before her brows furrowed when the events rushed to her head.
"That trial... I am sorry about that. Did anyone win?" Amelia’s eyes trembled as she uttered the word ’win’, knowing the winner would be the queen and she would be demoted to nothing.
Cyrus sighed.
"Seriously? Is that what you want to talk about? After everything you went through..." Cyrus closed his eyes briefly to keep his anger in check.
Unlike Kyle, who took his anger out by killing Dominic, he couldn’t do anything of that sort to bring justice to Amelia, and thus, his rage was nowhere near dissipated.
That was one of the reasons he didn’t return to the palace to see the preparations, as he was afraid he would do something that would be unacceptable to his family.
Amelia smiled sadly.
Cyrus was dodging the question. If no one had won, he would’ve mentioned it straightforwardly, no? But someone indeed won.
Or why would he change the topic?
Her gaze shifted to Kyle. His identity as Cyrus’s brother would be revealed sooner or later. Did that mean he would’ve had to accept Cyrus’s new wife as his own, too?
Was she losing both of her mates? She wondered.
As if Kyle could feel the turmoil brewing in her heart through the mark on his neck that he forced Amelia to give him that time, he sighed.
"No one won if that’s what you are worried about, baby. And even if anyone had won, we wouldn’t choose anyone but you. There is only one woman for us in this world, and it’s you." Kyle said.
As soon as his words registered in her mind, her fast-beating heart started to calm down, and she looked at Cyrus and Kyle.
"Dominic had called me there and asked me to drop out of the trial on the condition that he would let me see your mother. Your mother wasn’t dead, nor did she run with your brother or betray you by giving a fair chance to Dominic. It was all him. He had been torturing her in his cell for decades." Amelia said, pausing to let the information sink in.
To say Cyrus was surprised at the complete truth was an understatement.
That time when his mother had left with his brother, he was just born. Everything he knew was a truth laid to him by others.
Did that mean he had been hating the woman who gave birth to him wrongly all these years? That she was suffering right under his nose, but he was too proud and ignorant to ever look into that matter?
"Where—" Kyle couldn’t even complete his sentence, too afraid to know the truth.
Amelia understood his question immediately and nodded at him.
"She is alive. I had my people take her away before Dominic could stop them. I was the bait to keep him grounded until she left," Amelia said before she told them everything that happened in the forests.
Cyrus took a deep breath. It was too much to take in. He stumbled back onto the nearby couch before he left the room, his breathing heavy and urgent as he tried to process everything.
His mother never betrayed him. Instead, it was he who betrayed his mother. He betrayed her by thinking she was wrong when she was probably suffering all along. He betrayed her by believing others without ever trying to investigate the matter.
Tears brimmed in his eyes.
Kyle, who followed up, placed his hand on his brother’s shoulders.
"Don’t blame yourself for everything. Don’t be so hard on yourself. How could you know the truth when all the elders told you she left? What you should be grateful for is that she is alive and our mate saved her." Kyle said.
Cyrus nodded his head in understanding.
It was hard to process, and he didn’t want to appear weak before Amelia, especially after she had come through such a harrowing ordeal. He didn’t want her to worry about him either.
"I will be alright," Cyrus said before he left the hospital to prepare for the funeral of that man who did him so dirty.
This time, he was ready to do it without any remorse or any thought of the family. He deserved to die in the worst way possible.
Without a second thought, he gave orders to the S-class and Alpha team to infiltrate the Bentley Estate by hook or by crook to gather all the evidence they could get against Dominic. Little or big, everything mattered now.
