Chapter 23: Shadowed agression

Hannah paced around the border of Alpha Killian’s pack.

He was supposed to take her home after University, just like always. But when he didn’t turn up even after waiting for half an hour and his phone was unreachable, Hannah couldn’t help but contact his beta, Joseph, and to say she was surprised would be an understatement.

Joseph told her that Alpha Killian had rushed out of the University before the last lecture. While it was usual for the Alphas to show that kind of behavior because of Pack Matters, the fact that he rushed out because of Amelia was hard to digest.

Joseph didn’t tell her the details. All he said was that Killian rushed behind Amelia.

Why would he do that? Was he inclining towards her? No. That wasn’t possible. Alpha Killian hated Amelia. He made it clear with his stance on her protection. She ensured that she carved that hatred deep in his bones.

Then why? Why did he forget about her to run behind that cheap sister of hers?

Hannah picked at her nails and was about to turn around when Joseph, informed by the pack borders about her presence, walked towards her.

"Miss Hannah, what are you doing here?" Joseph asked, his gaze a little peculiar.

Hannah smiled innocently.

"Joseph, when will Alpha Killian turn up? He complained about having headaches and constant irritation these days. That’s why I came with this herbal tea that will help him," Hannah showed him the bag in her hand.

Joseph’s brows immediately relaxed, and he smiled at the girl welcomingly.

Of course, Hannah was one girl who thought deeply about their alpha.

"We don’t know when he’ll return, Miss Hannah. Should I give him—" Joseph couldn’t finish his sentence when Alpha Killian’s car pulled over, stopping beside them.

"Hannah? Joseph? What are you guys doing here?" Killian asked.

Though his question was directed at them, it was clear his mind was elsewhere.

"Alpha Killian, can I talk with you alone?" Hannah asked, looking around with a little wariness. The man nodded before opening the car door for her.

Hannah climbed in the car, and Alpha Killian drove it straight to his private house.

She occasionally glanced at the man, noticing how he looked so lost, as if her presence didn’t even matter.

The realization made her heart twist uncomfortably, and her hatred for Amelia was triggered even more.

It was good when that girl was close to her, and everything was under control. However, she lost control over that cheap girl after Ameliamarrying that beast.

Hannah clenched her fists, relaxing when she saw the private house in view.

Once they got inside, Hannah went straight to the kitchen, like a regular visitor who knew the house, and prepared the herbal tea for the man.

Alpha Killian went straight to his room to get fresh and change. His thoughts were clouded by what he saw in the hospital and how his heart was unable to get past that scene.

He stood under the shower; the water drops, sliding down his muscles like shining pearls as he gulped. The image of Amelia smiling at him crossed his mind, and a subtle smile appeared on his face.

He leaned back in the wall, imagining that girl laughing and standing before her, her gaze full of adoration and her form submissive, just like how he always liked her.

Killian’s hands clenched at the image of King Cyrus Valentino’s hand on her back when he helped her with the pillow.

The sudden urge to punch something started engulfing his emotions, and his wolf became restless.

Mistreating her. That was exactly how he kept her attention on himself only. But now that girl was slipping, and he didn’t like any second of it.

While Amelia wasn’t fit to be a Luna because she didn’t find her wolf or show any signs of having one, unlike Hannah, who had a wolf hidden somewhere, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that his heart always saw something inside her.

Her innocence and purity were terrifying, so scary that it made him want to sin, the reason he was always cold-hearted with her... but now... she was gone...

"Fuck!" Killian punched the wall, the tiles breaking and cement coming off from the wall, making him growl impatiently before he closed the shower and wrapped a towel around his torso.

As soon as he exited the bathroom, he saw Hannah sitting on his bed, and his brows furrowed.

"What are you doing here?" Killian asked.

Hannah, looking at the window, turned to him, faking surprise.

"Oh my, I am so sorry. I just came to drop the tea. I didn’t know you would be taking a shower," Hannah stood quickly before deliberately sticking her foot under the carpet.

She stumbled and lunged forward to grab something, her eyes wide.

Alpha Killian stepped forward to help her, holding her in place. Hannah, who had closed her eyes, opened them, blinking, terrified.

Her cheeks were flushed as her body was planted against his, and she gulped, her chest heaving up and down irregularly, rubbing against his chest, creating friction between them.

"Thank you," Hannah said before she tried to stand, her legs brushing against his towel, almost removing it.

"Turn around!" Alpha Killian growled, his eyes turning dark, and Hannah jumped into her place in fear.

She didn’t hesitate to follow the command.

Alpha Killian tightened the towel that was almost coming off.

He looked at the girl’s bust, her long legs on display, her top wrinkled, and her half-exposed back, making him gulp.

He gritted his teeth as he pictured Amelia standing before him like that, and the image immediately earned a reaction from his soldier down there, making him take a deep breath.

He cursed inwardly before asking Hannah to wait for him in the hall. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Hannah exited the room without looking back, her heart drumming against her chest.

That was a risky and bold move, but it at least ensured that he didn’t hate their proximity. Hannah smirked at the thoughts. The only hindrance between them was Amelia, which she would surely get out of soon.

Alpha Killian walked out dressed in khaki pants and a t-shirt, looking as handsome as ever.

"Amelia’s life is in danger," Killian said, his words making Hannah pause.

What did he say? Amelia’s life is in danger? Did he sense something off already? Was someone spying on her?

"What do you mean?" Hannah asked, a little wary.

Killian sighed and drank the aromatic tea that Hannah brewed for him before sitting on the couch. He was a bit too close to Hannah, and his knees brushed against her thighs, causing the girl to blush.

"Amelia was attacked in the forest today. I suspect the Ashborn brothers, but the royals can be behind that, too. That’s why I couldn’t pick you up. The wounds were... bad," Killian said, remembering how much blood Amelia lost.

The cold look in her eyes when he had called her name, and she had looked at him as if he was some stranger while she bled like a warrior who survived... Killian licked his lips thoughtfully.

Hannah observed Killian’s expression before smiling.

"I told you. Her life is in danger there. Those monsters took her to establish peace but would end her sooner or later. I am worried for her," Hannah made a pitiful expression, tears welling in her eyes.

This might just be her chance to get Amelia here. If Killian asked Amelia, that stupid lap dog would come running here and be declared a traitor and someone who betrayed the king, making her work 100 times easier.

"Don’t worry. I will bring her out of there. I’ll think of a way," Killian said. He pulled her close, letting her place her head on his shoulders. Hannah snuggled close, sniffing loudly while her smile stayed hidden in his chest.

Killian thought about Amelia’s cold look, and his expression turned a little grim.

He didn’t know if she was just pretending to hate him anymore. Maybe his pushing her all the time really had an impact on her heart, and she had grown cold towards him.

He didn’t send the team immediately to look for her after she fell into that ditch. After all, she changed after she returned from there, right?

However, how was he supposed to tell her he had a reason for that? Killian sighed and shook his head.
